What kind of material is that red ring? Is it iron or just rope wrapped in cloth?

Thanks for your interest in the drum making video.
The ring material was made from some ridge plastic tubing that was bought locally in Bamako. it is wrapped with cloth.

check your facts, brother. kasonke people are mainly around kayes region of western mali. thanks for the videos.
