I've never more wanted to grab a gun and walk into a building to hunt down someone who totally destroyed one fo the greatest rock songs of our...HOLY CRAP, WAS THAT KWAME FROM CAPTAIN PLANET???
How is it that this only lasted 5 episodes yet I had several toys and the song was burned into my brain yet merged with "Wild Thing" in a confusing way.
@anxresi They did. One of the Un-Men carried around a spraygun full of weedkiller and frequently used it against Swamp Thing. It's just Swamp Thing is very tough and could quickly recover if given fresh water. P.S. The theme song is awesome. I love how they use the "Wild Thing" tune and modify the lyrics.
@Wright805 O RLY? Well thanks for that, now take some advice from me: keep your in-depth knowledge of this show to yourself. I am only thinking of your social well-being, you know. Oh, and get your ears checked too.. ;)
I only remember seeing one episode of this show before they decided to quickly give it the ax. Kinda sad because it sprouted a great line of action figures. I had the Swamp Thing figure that had the extending hand tied to a string.
Who else here believes that DC Comics has enough material to carry a whole cable TV network? Between what's pre-existing in reruns and original programs they could produce themselves, I believe it'd be a *huge* hit! All Superman series and cartoons, 60's Batman, Batman: The Animated Series, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Justice League and JLU, Teen Titans, Superfriends, Aquaman, Filmation Justice League of America incl. Hawkman, Atom, Green Lantern, etc. Shazam, Plastic-Man...!

@gargoylemon Not bad!!!! Yeah dude, see that's good stuff right there. Wow. I always thought I'd IMAGINED that song! Well, it's not nearly as badass at 24 as it was at six, but at least I know I didn't make this song up... especially considering how unbelievably lame it is.
I heard this song for the first time with this cartoon so I always thought it was a swamp thing original when I heard the original I was like FUCKERS THEY COPIED SWAMP THING! lol then i learned the truth, anyway this cartoon was the shit! I WANTED ALL THE ACTION FIGURES!
I rememberr the toys for this show more than I remember the show itself. And for all those bummed that the movies, show, and cartoon werent based on Wein's or Moore's work, the film is being remade in 3-D. And it wil likely be based on the work of one or both of those guys.
Too bad they never tried to do anything outside of the basic Saturday morning kiddie cartoons peddling toys, I'm sure they never would have tried anything as ambitous as say an adaptation of Alan Moore's 'The Anatomy Lesson' or putting John Constantine into that cartoon,
but it might have been nice if Bruce Timm and Paul Dini had ever done a Swamp Thing cartoon that at least tried to capture the spirit of those classic Wein/Wrightson, Alan Moore/Steve Bissette comicbooks ala BTAS.
I think my eyes and ears are bleeding after watching that intro.
Wow, that is pretty awful right there.
And while I know Alan Moore wrote the series in the 80's, shouldn't Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson be the ones to look away? They created the character.
I would be unable to give this show a chance after that terrible intro.
Alan Moore is responsible for revolutionizing and popularizing the character, and thus why many hold Alan Moore in high regard towards Swamp Thing. He changed things we thought we knew about the character and totally messed with our heads, and he also introduced John Constantine in the series.
He's not the creator, but he sure as hell made it his own during when he wrote it in the 80s.
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Len Wein. He wrote some great stories when he created the character. Amazing stuff which people, strangely, seem to forget. And the visual side of the character will always be associated with Wrightson. Bissette was very good, as was Totleben, who is visually impaired, but Wrightson stamped his style on the character.
Oh, I am by no means dismissing Len Wein or the other writers for that matter, and yes they are still great stories. It's just that some consider Alan Moore's run to possibly be one of the most if not essential version of the character.
I'm just merely stating that Alan Moore makes his own (quite successfully) version of characters that ultimately redefine characters and sometimes even the genre itself.
Maybe I'm a bit biased seeing as how Moore is my fav writer, but it is only my opinion.
I remember during school, the "cool" guys were Playing with there ninja turtles figures at recess,And suddenly BOOM,We jumped in and fought em with swamp thing,Bayou Jack,And that one Un-Man bat dude.
