Windshield-mount detectors may work good, but they stick out like a sore thumb. They make attractive targets for thieves, and I gotta believe a cop will be MORE inclined to give you a ticket (instead of a break) if he sees a great big radar detector sitting there.

Why can't someone design a stealthy detector with a clever DISCRETE mounting system? I see no option other than installing a 'remote' detector.

In the case of RLCs that is not necessarily a good thing. In fact it is a liability in urban areas like Washington, DC. The density of RLCs are high enough and some roads close enough that the Cobras become absolutely unusable in such areas because of the continuous falsing that occurs. This is at a time when accurate warnings are essential. Vector-based systems likes those of Cheetah and (newer) Escorts are the way to go. If you doubt me, take your Cobra for a spin in DC...then let's talk.

Cobra's wider alerting radius will result to a greater frequency of alerts to adjacent intersections in high density photo enforced areas, like Washington D.C.

Escort and Beltronics recently reduced their alert radius to lower potentially excessive alerts in such areas which is why they alerted a little later.

Cheetah is the most resistant to excessive alerting because of their more advanced filtering mechanisms.

That camera location at 9th & the Boulevard was added to the Trinity database months ago so the Cheetah C100, the Escort and the Beltronics models all have the location in their databases.
