  • Everyone seems to think they'll outsmart their 991 carrera, but I bet if you get one the complete opposite will happen.

  • Won't this wear down the battery faster than usual ?

  • lol and watch as your starter destroys itself 4x faster than normal

  • yummy 911'z

  • The good thing is that this Start/Stop feature can be easily switched off in the car when you dont feel like looking like you just stalled the car (manual trans especially)

  • i dont get it. i thought starting the engine is equivalent of 30secs of idle...someone explain to me how it saves gas if each redlight on average you wait for 15secs...

  • @tomhuu2 I think with new technology it doesn't need to use as much fuel to start up. Perhaps a trick with direct injection or the starter motor.

  • @tomhuu2 that's when the engine is cold, the gas isn't fully burned so the emissions are higher, that's why they have air pumps that only work when the engine is cold...

  • @tomhuu2 you thought wrong, lol. if the engine stays warm, starting the car uses next to no fuel.

  • I think with a sport aftermarket exhaust fitted to a car like this one (which at least 25% of the owner will fit), the feature is going to be a DISadvantage

  • Did anyone else expected a train to ram into the cars when they were crossing the tracks?

  • 2 fucking guy drive honda!

  • I can see this system failing allot as these cars start to age lol. I often wonder what will happen to those cars that can park themselves 5 to 10 years from now?. How many of them will crash into both cars as it tries to parallel park. Who's at fault then? The driver or the car? Because technically the driver doesn't have to do anything while the car is parking right?.

  • Good to know that it can be deactivated by a button on the center console! Can you imagine driving down a busy beach road in start-stop traffic, and the car turning off and on several times in just one minute? Yeah, I'd leave that switch in the "off" position.

  • What idea? The Auto Start/Stop is a BMW innovation !!

  • i really don't get it...they put start and stop to a PANAMERA GTS to save petrol...it's a V8 4.7 L??? it's like buying Buckingham Palace,and living in the kitchen to save the carpets!!!HAHAHA it's a stupid system...for a car that pretend to be a supercar...i agree with 1.0 .1.2 1.3 1.4 but after 3.0L it's a noob thing!!!

  • @MAXXFIGO The bigger thy engine, the more it saves:P????

  • This a stupid idea. (1) Engine-start-up uses up more gas, as oppose to keeping it running for 45 seconds at red light. So you'll likely loss gas mileage. (2) one more ridiculous function to maintain, which will decrease the cars efficiency while increasing the cars maintenance costs. "Keep It Simple Stupid"

  • ..and the car start up in the 2 gear, but for the drive used the first?

  • Zee Germans build the best cars in the world. I wonder if German girls are the best, as well...

  • i turn the key off in my hyundai. but I do approve of this. I mean, who doesnt want to save gas and the environment!?!?!?! :S

  • cylinder deactivation, engine start stop... if you ask me, its just something else to break.. cn you honestly see any car with this technologie lasting for as long as any other "normal" car.. NOpe

  • i wouldnt want my car to do that...

  • I've owned VW and Mercedes-Benz in the past. And I have to say, driving a German car who's engine cuts off at every stop would freak me out. What happens when the auto-start feature fails (because it will)? You're left stuck at a light holding up traffic. Trust me, in the 10 years of driving German one of the only things the I learned time, after time, after time of going into the shop or dealer for expensive repairs is that German auto-manufacturers don't build reliable products.

  • @5r4nd0n "German auto-manufacturers don't build reliable products" that is like saying that nothing in the world gets produced in China.

  • @ghosthunter2006 true, but not the near 100% reliability the Japanese have!

  • @MagicAyrtonforever last time i checked the GTR (if you're mentioning japan) is nowhere near any german manufacturer in what you call "reliability". Believe me, do 20 laps of any racing track in a porsche and its gonna stay as solid as ever. GTR has to be checked for the oil leak at the service. true story here. it might be faster and cheaper. but believe me. you get what you're paying for. and porche is not like lambo or ferrari. it is not hyped up overpriced car like those.

  • @ghosthunter2006 The GTR is an exception because it stamps on all Porsches. In fact it is quicker than mainly every car. I am talking about "normal" sports cars like the Z, and by reliability I mean total over a long period of time.. had nothing but trouble with my Carrera S, sold the heap.

  • @MagicAyrtonforever My family has a 997 targa 2s, and never ever we had any problem with that car. dont know what youre talking about)

  • @ghosthunter2006 what's your home planet, dude?? are all of you trolls over there? both the gtr and the 911 are phenomenally reliable. did you race your targa? how do you know it won't break down? you don't go racing without making a few checks and modifications, doesn't matter what car it is.

the gtr was developed and built in 3 years. it's a completely new model which 911s never really were. of course it had flaws, all cars have them when new but they get sorted out as the model matures.

  • I love Porsche, but living in Saudi arabia where the inside of the car can be as hot as 130 degrees during summer after being parked in the sun all day long, the last thing I want is the AC working at half its capability when stuck in a traffic jam. Might be a good option in Europe and colder climates but definitely a negative in the middle east.

  • @maherahdab same with heating when it's cold.. believe me, these start/stop cars heat like SHIT. you're gonna freeze to death in winter if you're in a traffic jam, or an extended period of traffic lights for that matter

apart from that, it's just another component that will fail and that will be difficult and expensive to repair

so car engineering is definitely going in the wrong direction nowadays

  • Being an owner of both a Porsche and a hybrid with the autostop feature, I'd say this is a great idea. I live in Southern CA so the stop and go traffic is something I experience on a daily basis. The autostop feature is actually a blessing in traffic. Autostop does not start and stop as a normal engine crank over. Much more subtle. All cars should have autostop. Saves gas too. Way to go Porsche. I'm planning on a 2013 once all the bugs are worked out of the '12 model. Porsche forever!!!

  • Thats a " horrible" feature. So in stop and go traffic , the engine would be shutting off and restarting.every time the car is placed in neutral. wowo that bad. They have over done it this time guys...

  • @corvettesR1 why is it bad?

  • @corvettesR1 start/stop feature is already used in other cars and it works.

  • Nice..

  • great car

  • I assume this is to satisfy tighter regulations for European C02 emissions.

Bigger and heavier but the new 911 official C02 is lower than Cayman and Boxster.

I had wondered how such low C02 was achieved. But what about when you disable this feature ?

  • Oh hell no! I DO NOT want some contraption where the engine cuts off and then on again- That will be one more thing that leaves a person stranded in the middle of nowhere on a Saturday night 250 miles away from the nearest competent foreign car mechanic. This alone would be a deal breaker for me if it can't be disabled or "left off" the car completely from the factory as a customer option.

  • @likeawhispr No offense meant, but, you must be in the US, to conjure up problems before they exist? I am American and am definately going to look into this idea for my Beetle AND my '61 Chevrolet Apache! It's a great idea! Try sitting at a stop light and count how many seconds you sit there wasting fuel. I have. For now I turn off my vehicle during red lights AND I'm STILL the first to leave at the green light. I LOVE PORSCHE, I just wish I could afford one.

  • wow like the rear tail lights than the front ones )

  • silly option

  • 911 is a most success type of porsche cars, and maybe the most success and greatest sport car what human ever made. That is a fact. The shape is timless so not necessary to change. Onestly im a real porsche 911 fan but i better prefer 911 turbo. I always dreamed about a 911 turbo, but i dont like these stupid electronic things like start/stop system and pdk gearbox. If i have enough money to buy one, i will choose an older air cooled version 'cause those are more harder and more exited sport ca

  • @NZotyoka81 completely agree ;)

  • @NZotyoka81

Turbo was what I always wanted but not untill you've driven the 997.2 GT3RS.

if I had to choose between 2 of them I would perfer the GT3RS.

Turbo was faster but not as consistant and more handling as the GT3RS.

I think for real driving experience the GT3RS is abit better.

  • can someone please tell me why the porsche 911 never change the front of the car? always changing rear, wheels, exhaust but the front of that car is the same since 1960....lol

  • @jeekilla1 i completely agree....even in their official site...they show the rear not the front ;p

  • @jynx631 lol yep i noticed :D

  • @jeekilla1 see Porsche 996 ;)

  • Porshe is withougth doudt one of the best cars around since it costs so much but jesus poeple ,,,even Honda pcx 125cc scooter has start/ stop feature whihc is even better becasue it doesnt even have a normal starter just an electric charge (coils) in the crankshft. Porsche advertises these now?? Jesus were do all of you live??? porshe addicts ,,,,,,impressed of a big nothing,,,

  • jaja no rinde la caja automatica arrancas en 2da papa

  • so wait, i have question, what if you are racing and you press brake to the max, does your car suddenly turn off engine ?

  • @skljom no cant be. it monitors the speed too. :)

  • @water0x00 Clever.

  • Doesn't it take more fuel to start the engine than just sit at idle for a bit?

  • @MadCat360

    no

  • @MadCat360

I've been on the IAA last week and did a test drive in an Opel which also had this technology. The technical instructor who was driving with me told me that in a normal car without this option it would definitely use more fuel to always switch off the engine, even if it's just for 5 seconds. But cars that have this extra built in have optimized battery, dynamo and starter so that it really helps you save fuel!

  • Typical Porsche, nice!
