Everyone is saying this is too slow. I think this is the right speed and on my professional CD(I think Edward Higginbottom but I could be wrong), this is the speed they do it. Not one of my favorites from Part but still a fun tune.
This performance is poor on three accounts; Firstly listen to the opening phrase and then listen to the last couple of chords, they go over a semitone sharp!! Number 2, the singers sound bored and it doesn't sound like they know what they are singing about, and the whole performance lacks vitality of meaning; the texture sounds the same. Lastly, there is not nearly enough bass, or supported bass sound, listen to 0.25-0.28 tre-va-to..the semitones are all different pitches! Put feeling in it!
@law528 Thanks, but we weren't bored, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of creating music together. We tried our best and had a great time, that's all that matters.
Beautifully sung, though I would have liked it just a little bit faster. Just a very little bit and I would have been magnificent, but other than that it's a real pleasure to hear this.
That's incredible sound, especially considering the size of the group. The acoustics were also terrific; I'd love to see what that place sounds like in person.
first time i've heard this piece, and i've got to say that the tempo seemed perfectly fine to me. tempo is relative, neh? very nice job. (and loving the ninja-esque costumes.)
This is a modern composed piece... it is as long as it has to be.... Rachmaninoff's "Bogoroditsa Devo..." is longer...
B. D. in Greek chant, tone 4 could can be sung in a shorter time frame.... - soborni regent-psalomschik [choir conductor-psalmist] in the Russian Orthodox Church.
I was referring to this particular arrangement. The tempo was marked to be fast, and only about 45 seconds long. I understand that there are other, much longer, arrangements, but this one is supposed to be fast.
Ah, I believe that this is Rachmaninoff, from his great Vespers. I have seen this done in a concert setting. One thing, this is NOT some wannabe tune, but a Chant of the Holy Orthodox Church, you stand for the whole of the worship. This is NOT to be criticized, but by the choir director, as pertains to the proper tone and cadence. For you of western sensibilities, you must needs be of a new mindset.
Hey guys I hate to tell you, but tempo is relative. You have to account for accoustics and other such variables like age of the singers. Remember we are here to uplift music and musicians and not be sideline critics
This is a really great version of this song, but there is one soprano who I can hear over everyone at some points, and it really throws off the entire thing for me.
we're singing this song at Massachusetts allstate this year.....
the tenors have no breath support, and the altos in the beginning sound very flat and forced....this song is so much pretty also when the bass 2's are heard.
I was happy to find this though because it's the only version i've found of the Dyevo and not the Sergei of Bogoroditse
Beautiful!!!!! :)) It was in 2008 when I last heard of this song from a CD. I think it was from the Nordic Chamber Choir's album.
