This video is fantastic! Very good job, and i love Bernard Sumner and Hot Chip, i didn't know much about Hot City, but this video is fantastic. Converse <3
god, everyday I love more and more hot chip, they make such a perfect sound to me, i really enjoy listening to them but not like anyother band, maybe the strokes but hot chip makes different, i really dont know how to explain it but its amazing.
wow cant everyone just be happy anymore.. its a good song and good video... everyone is so bitter ...... music makes the world go around kids... not hate!
yes looks to be quite a shameless rip of the technique used in the new crystal fighters video. i'm all for sharing methods and tools but might as well try to progress a bit from the places you borrow.
Sickening and totally blatant rip-off of the video for Crystal Fighters 'Follow', with a rip-off of the Max 500 video just for good measure. And then you big yourself up talking about "different visual techniques, body doubles, live shadows"? Total lack of creativity and self-respect, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Johan Renck did the "shadow following in black clothes" fives years ago for the Kent song Max 500, was a big hit in Sweden. That's in 2005 people. And Johan and Andreas not only from the same county I think they are friends. You shouldn't rip off your friends, right?
New Order Fan.. Their music represents the technology and talent poured by God to man in this our days. Too bad they parted, but the technology like their music is ours to improve and discover. By looking back and making adjustments. To remember what is good, and making them classics. For classics not only being good they never fade.
This video was inspired by "Follow" Ian Pons Jewell's video for Crystal Fighters made earlier this year. You can see the director here copied his animation style throughout the majority of the video & was also bold enough to copy the "exact" same walking movements (men in forest walking) directed for actors in Ian's video. I'm not sure if Ian is supposed to be flattered or pissed off. I have very mixed feeling about this blatant copying myself. Ian really deserves full credit and work for his.
@bronkomeister Yes, I am aware of "frame cutting" and I know it's an old animation technique. Anyone who has studied film knows that, as I'm sure many do. You do not need to be patronizing. I'm not insulting anyone here, just pointing out obvious similarities and information I have been personally told. I'm not breathing hard, just voicing an opinion.
@thedifferenceitmakes So I guess we can assume that if you're so offended by this rather lovely little homage that the entire genre of Italo-house must completely set you off.
@pcj888 This is not a "litrtlñe homage", this is a copy. And you know it. It's just that I hate when people say: oh man! this is super cool! What? this is not cool, this is so old, this is a clasic... this man is not making new music, this is not innovation, this is just a copy .
@thedifferenceitmakes Do you have proof that the piano riff is in fact a sample? If it is not, then you're technically and legally incorrect. Do you honestly think Derrick May was the first person to use a looping piano riff in this way? He may have been the first person to do so at such BPM in Strings of Life. Or the first in 1988 Chicago. Other than that, he wasn't. It's easy to claim something you don't like is a copy of something you do. It's much harder to prove it.
@thedifferenceitmakes It's not even the same chord progression, just a similar rhythmic thing. And as @pcj888 said, I highly doubt May was the first person to ever syncopate the chord in that way. :P Not to mention that pretty much everything else about the song is completely different...
@justacrosshair I'm not going to post more comments about this because I don't think it will be usefull . I just wanna say that at least for me this track is a copy of STRINGS OF LIFE. If you don't think so it's ok, I respect you, but guys, the similarities are more than just some notes... And I'm a big fan of hot chip and I really love the work of Bernard Summer, but that's nothing to do with the fact that this song is a copy.(for me of course, not for you) ;-)

good artists borrow
great artists steal
if the directors are friends it's more likely to be an allusion to the original work than a ripoff.

@sophiamedium
This technique is called frame cutting. Its been around for a very long time, used in many animations.
Have a look at Dougal Wilson's - Chikinki "Assissinator 13" video on youtube. (8or 9 years old)
See what I mean.
I think you should take some deep breaths and calm down, everything's gonna be just fine. ;-)
