@funkymunkydrummer the music on his DVD was produced pretty horribly. The bass player is boring as hell, the guitar player is playing a Parker Fly. It sounds like a bunch of guys trying to play reggae. Obviously Gil is a great drummer, but the drums only take you so far in this style of music.

@JohnnyLongboddi you got it all wrong. those guys in the band have played with everyone in reggae before you even born. the keyboard player plays in ziggy marley's band and with barrington levy. the guitar player plays with ras mikael who is a legend! don't judge people because they aren't jumping around or because of the guitar they are playing. you have your opinion but it's not a fact. i do agree that gil is a great drummer and i love this clip. peace!

@Dody311 go and listen to Barrett and tell me if he does fills as long as this guy. Reggae is about empty space and a steady groove. This is so busy and full of crazy fills. This might work for modern "reggae" but not the traditional stuff.

@karlmarx71 i'm not a drummer but i think it's called 'timbales'. you can also get pretty close to this sound by taking a fairly high-tuned snare and removing the snare-wires.
