@oledoledoffen98 Hey, sorry. I don't remember EXACTLY where the update is on the 1.5 firmware, but it says it's in About Phone on the HTC website. You'll just have to keep looking everywhere in the settings, or contact HTC.
hi, i'm planning on buying this phone bc its pretty cheap. I'm not looking for something high-end but it is kinda old. would you recommend that I still buy it?
@GreendaySid96 It is an old phone, but it's still pretty good. There are a lot of better Android phones out there now, but it should be fine if you're not looking for something high-end...There are also some Apps now that aren't compatible with this phone because the amount of RAM it has. If you're not into all the good apps and just want a cool looking phone, I'd still recommend it!
@GreendaySid96 Most newer games are lag a lot, and some don't even show up on the Market because they just won't work on the phone. For example, X-Plane isn't on the market on the HTC Magic, but IS on newer Android phones :)
@GreendaySid96 LOL, it's been over a year since it was released lol, and it's still not updated? LOL, well, you just gotta go to the Settings, About Phone and System Software Updates :) That should work!
Maybe a stupid question but, is this a hacked version of the firmware or is this downloadable on an official website? cause this looks like it's working like a charm
@MXPXHolland Nope, this is not a hacked version. You can update it directly from the phone via Software Update in the settings. No need of a computer!
There is a custom ROM that is based on THAT Rogers RUU for the new Radio/SPL it's name is RCMagic and it's very fast and stable. I have rooted phone from a lot of time, but today I just upgraded Radio/SPL and flashed it. It's exactly the same as that one, but it's rooted.
@Walleby1 Sorry, I don't know what to do. Are you 100% sure you don't already have the latest version? If you just bought the phone, it probably comes with 2.1.
@bendirkss First of all, are you sure you have the 2.1 firmware? I think that the new phones still come with 1.5 or something... Check by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Information. Under "Firmware version," make sure it says "2.1-update1." Let me know if it already has 2.1 and I'll try to help you out !
@bendirkss It depends. Once it's up and running for around 5 minutes, then it's pretty good. But the phone is getting a little old now. There are many better android phone out there now that have screens that are a lot more responsive than the HTC Magic...
Hay,i wonder if i should buy the magic,,...Does ti have that pinch-to-zoom effect and multitasking? Also, can you play all the games there are on the market,I mean like the 3d race games with accelerometer movement?
@Dukk96 If I were you, I'd get a newer phone than the magic. Games like Angry Birds are very choppy on the magic. It does have multitouch though, so yes, you can zoom into pictures by pinching with your fingers.
I have two questions, first of all is there anyone to stop the notification that notifies that my message was sent succesfully. And also where is the icon for your Movies? Not the camcorder movies but the downloaded movies.
@sickwedios 1 - I don't really now if there's a way to stop the notification... 2 - If you're talking about the "Movies" app, it's an app I downloaded from the market.
@70monte64 Well kinda, like just like there is a Program that is called "Music" im just wondering where the one called "Movies" i believe its called, because I have movies on my sim card and music, i just dont know how to get to my movies? Thats my qustion really.
Im with rogers and im planing on getting the HTC magic in december when im eligible and do any of you guys know if i would get the new and updated android 2.1 or 2.2 or what ever it is, why i get the newest.
@likespaintball Honestly do yourself a favor and get a newer Android phone. I own an HTC Magic, and I love it but it has old hardware pretty lousy for gaming.
@likespaintball I just got a replacement and it wasnt updated, but its really easy to and it will ask you to do the update if it isnt already, when you turn it on. And if you have a good Wifi connection its really simple and will all be done within 20-30 min.
I have a Rogers HTC Magic but switched to CyanogenMod-6 (Android 2.2). The reason for the switch was I couldn't turn off the boot screen sound (very annoying). I love CyanogenMod but I am considering switching to Rogers official ROM 2.1.
Could you post video of the boot sequence and check if there are options to turn off the boot sound?
Also could you run a Quadrant Benchmark and show the results? The Rogers 1.5 ROM gave a 218 at best while the CyanogenMod-6 gave a score of 382.
@jeremyssins Hey..So, I think the only way you can turn off the boot sound is by putting your ringer sound OFF or on Vibrate (which is what I do). As for the Quadrant Benchmark result, it scores the same thing as the 1.5 ROM.
Updated automatically which was nice. Took rogers long enough to release it, they had originally promised it for the spring. Worth the wait imo, just for the navigation and text-to-speech. The voice command is nice but I found an awesome app from the market which is even better called vlingo. It even has a decent widget, check it out.
Please help! i got htc magic with the 1.5 frimware and when i go to settings - about phone - its no system software update
