If you put a pumpkin in the crafting area, you'll get seeds from it. :o) You can't eat pumpkins though. But they're good for lighting when you turn them into jack o'lanterns!
Hopefully you'll find some melons or melon seeds in treasure soon. They grow like crazy and you can eat melon slices. :o)
