it is a 3 cylinder two stroke motor, 1 litre dkw motor,
actually, no, it's an 850cc engine that SAAB built themselves, although arguably it can be considered "partially based on" the DKW engines.

1964 vw bought dkw, and dkw became non two stroke
saab didnt use any damn dkw angine , they built the engine themselves . the engine is a 750cc 3cylinder 2 stroke engine . i know this becuse i work for saab in trollhättan sweden .

Of course SAAB had a 750. It was the GT that had the 850. 750s were much more common.
And by the way the SAAB 2cyl.was a 25 hp 764cc.

Well close, it was the very first 2cyl. engines ('47-'54?) that was modeled after the DKW and used in the model 92.
