  • AMAZING SIMPLY AMAZING! WHEN WAS THIS LOVELY INTERVIEW?

  • I kept replying the part when she laughs about losing her virginity...too hilarious!!

  • She says she owes EVERYTHING to writers... well, Ms. Davis... I will agree that writers are exceptionally talented people and without them, we would be lost... HOWEVER, without actors like YOU, writers would never have the chance to see their dreams so BEAUTIFULLY REALIZED! Bravo, Bette, Bravo!!!

  • Grandiosa!!!

  • Is it just me, or has Dick Cavitt always been just a little sexy *blush*

  • "NO, I did not mean THAT!"

What a woman, such a legend! Actually crying with laughter! I love how open-minded she is, I love how she isn't embarrassed to talk about stuff like this.

Bette Davis is my idol, I love her dearly.

  • What did he say at 1:54 ? What what you do if you were trapped in newmara bridge?

  • @TheFutureLooksGrimm He's talking about a movie called Myra Breckenridge. The movie was a very bad adaptation from a book with the same name written by Gore Vidal. The movie was one of the first X rated movies ever made. A lot of the dialogue from the film was ad-libbed rather than scripted so as a result some of the scenes are strange. So, Dick here is asking Bette. Davis how she would feel if she had been one of the cast of this very controversial and much hated film.

  • what style

  • Dick Cavett has got to be one of the best interviewers of our time.

  • Love Bette's Laugh!

  • NO!!!! I did not mean THAT?!!!!!!

    hahahaha legend!

    Bette you absoult LEGEND! =D

  • This was a great interview. Dick Cavett was an excellent interviewer and Bette was always a great guest.

  • ahahaahhaa "I meant laughing on the floor" XD Bette Davis, WE ADORE YOU!

  • I love her, she's spectacular! This interview is from November 1971 I believe.

  • Is this from the episode of September 19, 1974 where Barry Manilow backed her on two numbers? Thanks Tom

  • Notice how Dick Cavett lets her think if she doesn't answer right away. . He doesn't start talking just because there is a few second pause. Today there are so many frustrating interviewers who just want to hear themselves talk. Shut up and listen.

  • "Can you make it two, I've got an appointment."

    ( ;

  • Insightful interview. Christianity is flawed in only one area IMO. Sexuality. Great everyplace else. St Paul telling people to remain celibate was a weird thing to say, even then. But sexual purity/fear/repression has been the greatest contribution to civilization prior to modern medicine. And it remains extremely useful. But no, can't scare kids away from love-sex. Not healthy.

  • @fdzwes why do you have to ruin this video with the pathetic ramblings of a bible thumper

  • Charming interview!

  • hahaha! This woman always makes me smile! The last part of this video is hilarious! And I just adore her laugh!

  • god i love this girl!!!!!!!!

  • Omg its me in 60+ yrs HAHAHA

  • now that i see this.... madonna has a lot of bette davis in her.

omg these two strong ladies are very similar.

  • @dumbasaboxofhair Madonna is nothing like Bette Davis. Bette Davis is a great actress and star. Madonna with all her re inventing herself still limits herself. Madonna sang pop songs that she wont be able to sing when she is in her 60's and 70's. She never had a movie that she was brilliant in or a hit. Bette Davis worked in Movies up into the end. Madonna wont be able to sing "Like a Virgin" when she is in her 50's or 60's on up.

  • Comment removed

  • @NFitalianGuy (PART2) the problem with madonna as an actress is that she is too iconic critics and fans alike only see madonna as____ true, madonna is not the best singer but she is very talented nomatter what you think. her music is about meaning, message and getting points across. she didn't become who she is just on shock factor. davis is great but she brought to life fictional characters and what told what to say and when, that is not her. even with her re-inventions madonna is still madonna.

  • @dumbasaboxofhair (PART 1)i somewhat agree with you. these two lovely and talented ladies are two very different kind of artists who excel in dofferent areas of entertainment, when i meant that they were similar i talked about their manerisms and in how opinionated and strong people they are. madonna is madonna and in terms of fame she has surpassed all other ladies, she is 52 and still sings like a virgin and she will never stop what she does, she did have movies that were very brilliant.

  • HAHAHAHA! This is delicious. Bette was always so wise and funny. I simply adore her :). Viva La Davis!

  • Oh my darling Bette, there is no need to be envious of boring old big boob Raquel Welch...For YOU are my idol of beauty, inside AND out...And yes please believe I think Bette is more beautiful then Raqule Welch will ever be...And Bette can A C T...Something Miss Welch has never heard of...Bette is my love...She wins

  • @MissGarland18 is there anyway i can give you 1 million thumbs up? This is exactly what I think too. When she said all that about Raquel Welch, I said, "This lady has got to be a knock out if Bette is jelous!" She is a joke next to Bette, at any age. She's got the best looks, the best talent, the best everything! I feel like I really should have known her, because eveytime I see her it seems I'm watching a video of an old teacher or relative. someone i once knew and miss, though i couldn't have

  • @CRICKET999999999. Ha, Thanks. I feel the same way about watching her too and sometimes just reading about her, or even if a conversation comes up and she's the topic, I talk about her as if we were good friends, I feel like I knew her personally, even though there's no way I could have lol, and thats what a class act person can do to you, you know. =)...So I'm with you on that too lol*

  • @MissGarland18 I agree very much, and how! She's so... I can't even describe it. In interviews she's charming, delightful and realistic. In her movies when she's sweet she's like a ray of sunshine, and when she's angry she's it like she's filled with fire. When she's sad, it makes you weep like your morning a dear relative. No other actor or actress acheivess it quite like her (except maybe Hepburn, Leigh, Bogart ect.) I wish very much I could meet her, but i don't know what I'd say

  • @CRICKET999999999, That was an amazing comment lol, I loved reading it, it was so very well written, how you described her was fabulous, so descriptive of how I feel about her, and it's SO strange because I never even knew the woman!!! And if I ever had the chance to meet her I would most likely loose what little composure I had and grab her not not let go haha

  • Ms. Davis is wrong. Myra Breckinridge was a phenomenal novel then and is still a brilliant read. The movie however is baloney and Mr. Gore Vidal was particular in repudiating the movie.

  • Thank you for this video----I love this interview. Ms. Davis is so very interesting and Dick Cavette was the best. It's like watching a tennis match. You can tell that they both enjoyed each other.

  • How right she is! You don't have to answer every question interviewers throws at you. Celebrities find the wrong ways to keep their names out there being talked about, by answering questions that are silly & have no place in an interview. People like that backward Spencer Pratt his plastic wife Heidi who have soured our TV screens & say the most ridiculous things just to get press. Both idiots and hate they have their 15 mi of fame. When is their 15 minutes up?

  • I sing about Bette Davis in The Celebrity Song.

  • I forgot how extremely intelligent she was. Thanks for posting these interviews.

  • Lurve Bette Davis!

  • I'm old enough to remember when Cavett was TV's darling. Didn't get it then, don't get it now. His approach is almost always unctuous and self-serving, his manner is tense, his questions are at best ordinary as hell. Again, though, worst of all was his endless ass-kissing, combined with his glee at being with legends.

  • She would have been great in MYRA BRECKINRIDGE

  • I was watching an interview with Miley Cyrus today. With her it was just mindless chatter and her going on about how she's number one in the charts and how she wants people to see her movie. Then I remembered this interview and came back to watch it again. Davis had so many interesting things to talk about and she was clearly a smart woman. We've lost something truly special, and I think Cyrus' success is a reflection of the society we live in today.

  • @thanth11 So you're one of those who always comes back to the good interviews after watching a bad interview on tv too? I'm just like you... I can't stand today's entertainment. And I can't stand Miley Cyrus either... These people from the golden age were really a class-act, smart, talented people who always had interesting things to say.

  • @GEVMM I am thinking exactly like you

  • Love this interview, especially after 8:06, and she screams "nooooooo!", hahaha

  • Goddamn. I love her.

  • What can you say??? she was the very definition of professionalism, intelligence and wit.She was true to her self, true to her belief system and a worker.I bet she made a fantastic and loyal friend but a fearsome enemy!!!!She just entraces me she is just a rare and unique breed and is rare to see.I love the "What do you wear when you go to bed?" Her response and giggle is brilliant, really? i mean really? The top and bottom of Miss Davis is they jst dont make em like that any more,UTTER BRILLIANCE!!

  • Please try putting spaces between your sentences. Like this.

  • her laugh is fantastic

  • is dick cavett flirting

  • Ha più personalità lei nell'ultima falange del dito mignolo che cento attrici di oggi in tutto il corpo! Fantastica!

  • What year is this interview from.. I LOVE IT! shes hilarous! thanks for sharing!

  • I think it's from 1971.

Bette was such a great woman! Today, the actors only promote their movies on talkshows, but don't really have to say something important.

Bette symbbolizes the good old days...

  • Ooh, thanks :) I know! I quess sociaty has changed so much.. its all about celebrity nowadays, rather then talent and real class.

  • @SOPHI3333333333333 Sad but so true.

  • 26 years isn't bad to lose one's virginity

  • You watch this and you've gotta admit she's just sexy. Doesn't matter how old she is. She's just damn sexy. And charming as hell.

  • @jaleach123 AWESOME COMMENT

  • Ahhh Bette is such a classy woman.

She is a great actress and she stands true to herself.

Thats what I love most about her.

She never tried to be something shes not.

  • She's so hella Fierce! That outfit, those boots, her bag right beside her!

  • I think she was great and the song Bette Davis eyes, was written about her beatiful eyes .love to her ,I miss the talk shows like this to .

  • What a woman! She was not Rachel Welsh, but perhaps she did not realize how seductive, charming, and absolutely charismatic she was at her 64! What a clever sense of humor she had, what a personality, and intelligence! Bette Davis was a tremendously fascinating person... I wish I was 1% of her!!! Magnificent human being! Bravoooooo!!!

  • She was such a wonderful actress. I really love classic movies, especially classic movies that include her!

  • thank you SO much for posting this :)

as many have already said, I so miss this kind of 'talk show' ~ as a kid, I had a big crush on Cavett; in my early 20s, i wondered how i could have been so attracted to such a 'geek' ~ but at 41, i realize what i must have been seeing in him then:) he's so witty and is SO great at this kind of interview

and Bette is completely charming/fascinating/forthright :)

whoever said that Streep is the closest thing to that kind of star _now_ is right :)

  • 'How did you lose your virginity, Bette?' OMG!

    I love Bette!

  • How old was she here?, she still had sex appeal and was articulate.

  • She was 64. Quite amazing, I must say so as well.

  • So frank, honest, intelligent and graceful.

  • and funny

  • Yes.

  • Listening to her opinions gives me a lot of respect for her. She knows what she wants to say, and she says it clearly and boldly. I love it.

  • How cool is she? Total class and intelligence and charisma. I love the way the great artists from the past never seem dated. Big props, Bette!

  • Fab interview! She was intellligent and a great actress unlike most actors today

  • "She was a great chum.. I miss her all the time" I love this line, it's so terribly cute and also sad

  • I know I've said it before but I'm loving her laugh.

  • She's wonderful <3

  • Oh god....too funny she is simply amazing.

  • My God I love that laugh of hers

  • i lost mine when i was 26. although ive made up for lost time, to be sure.

  • such an amazing woman, I really love this full interview, she is so candid and witty. Simply Amazing, truly the essence of Bette!

  • Graciously emotional ! She is adorably talented !

  • Bette Davis was simply the BEST!

I loved the way she talked, she was like a NO NONSENSE lady.....Just keeping it Real

    R.I.P.

  • that laugh is fantastic you think shes fairly intimidating then she laughs like a cheeky kid gorgeous

  • Haha...she's the best actress and her laugh is funny..;)

  • Bette's eyes are really very pretty. i never saw them that way before.

  • AHAHAHAHA! I love her laugh! So natural!

  • If she were alive today, I wonder what her opinions would be regarding sex. I think we've taken it a bit far. Seems like the only thing on everyone's mind these days.

  • a great lost format: 90 minutes, 1 single interesting guest and real conversation - not the crap that passes for a talk show today

  • You are so right!

  • I sure do miss the old talk shows when they had guests who could hold a conversation without relating to their body parts, sex, drugs, or giggle their way off the stage. I love this lady. You see, one can be independent and a lady. I also agree with her about sexual repression in the sense that guilt was instilled in most rather than an intelligent conversation about the responsibilities of having sex without being married. Guilt and shame was the cause of many bad marriages.

  • stunning, simply stunning amazing woman inside and out

  • I love Dick Cavette. Wish he'd come back. So understated and intelligent.

  • Bette Davis was absolutely charming!

  • I love this interview! She's so down to earth. And boy,is Dick Cavett cute!

  • HILARIOUS!!!

She's so DEAD-ON in this interview, I've REALLY got to study her more.

  • The beautiful and legendary Ava Gardner once said about Ms. Davis: ''Maybe I just didn't have the temperament for stardom. I'll never forget seeing Bette Davis at the Hilton in Madrid. I went up to her and said, "Miss Davis, I'm Ava Gardner and I'm a great fan of yours." And do you know, she behaved exactly as I wanted her to behave. "Of course you are, my dear," she said. "Of course you are." And she swept on. Now that's a star''. Love them both!

  • if only she told oliver reed about the 'no drinking before interviews' policy...we would never have had Wild Thing! I'm glad they never met

  • A brilliant one of a kind woman. Nobody compares today with her talent.

I think Merle Streep comes as close to such talent as Bette Davis as we will ever see again.

  • A true original American Icon. I always appreciate greatness.

  • It's amazing- back in the day before botox, plastic surgery and facelifts, the starlettes of the golden era actually aged gracefully

  • Thank God for that! I'd hate to think of what these old You-tube videos would be like if they had. Everyone looks the same today - bunch of willing clones with botox lips, hips, busts bigger/smaller - here a rib there a rib - all so nuts! And they clamor about wanting the acting to be more natural and the movies more real? Now what is 'natural' or 'real' about botox? Frankensteins a hypocrite!

  • Wow she's amazing!, What a brilliant woman; take example from this Angelina Jolie!

  • ziggyboy101011 What does this interview have to do with God? You're an idiot! So somewhere else and post your stupid nonsense...

  • the real moron is you, ziggyboy101011...pffffttt!

  • lol...she cracked me up! i have never heard her speak in an interview and wow...i really like her! she seems to have a very down to earth personality. pretty cool.

  • what a great woman, what a truly amazingly great woman!

  • She certainly was a great lady... absolutely amazing... superlatives are not enough to describe her...

  • if fact Bogie would pick on her about being a virgin, she didn't like him for it

  • lmaoooooooooooooooooo@ on the floor for three hours smh i love her

  • Betty davis is someone who i look up to, she will always speak her mind and would care what others say. she is such a mind blowing person and she makes me laugh and if anyone wants to say anything nausty about her they can stick there stupid little comments where the sun does not shine!

  • bastionx18x and manilasyndicate,FUCK YOU , Bette Davis is THE QUEEN and she can ,do ,say or think whatever she wants,, stupid assholes shut the fuck up ,duh¡¡¡

  • 4:29 IN VINO VERITAS!! What a great interview. Thanks again for posting. I cannot stop watching these.

  • Bette and Joan are Awesome!

  • well, since she married in 32, was born in 08, she must've been 24... she dramatized a little haha. but anyway, it's still old! great story though, love this woman.

  • didn't she say she was 26 when she married?

  • Whatmakes it so unbelievable that she waited til she was married? Maybe I'm just a dedicated fan but she has always been very honest about her life and relationships and mistakes etc so why would she lie about that?

  • What a hoot! This lady's got spunk!

  • tcm is great. you can catch a different bette film about once a week

  • She still to this day is such an inspiring individual. For her the craft and passion came first and what an amazing body of work she left behind. Such a strong intelligent woman as well no wonder she became a legend.

  • what a cool lady.

  • THIS IS SO FUNNY she had really a fabulous humor... and sooo clever... fantastic clip, thank you so much!!!

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE her...what a great sense of humor. Rest well Bette, you certainly did it the hard way, but the best way. There will never be another!

  • Mae West starred in "Myra Breckinridge" with Raquel Welch and a very young Farrah Faucette

The film is a disaster, unwatchable. The book by Gore Vidal is one of my favorite reads.

  • The best thing about that movie would have been to catch a glimpse of Mae West, but I never did go to see it.

  • Hi! didn't catch (English's not my mother tongue) a word in a line at 3:00...I can't get the whole sense...What is "against everything she believes in"? Can anyone write it down, thx?

  • She is talking about the modern approach to making movies By "natural" she is referring to speaking a dialogue by ad libing rather than reading a script. She was against it and preferred reading what someone else wrote rather than just creating her own lines.

  • Hi! didn't catch (English's not my mother tongue) a word in a line at 3:00...I can't get the whole sense...What is "against everything she believes in"? Can anyone write it down, thx?

  • yorick85, it's an idiomatic expression that means a thing is in opposition to one's morals or, in this case, methods; here, the way she was trained to act--which clearly worked better than the "ad-libbing" she was referring to.

  • "ad-libbing" that's the piece I missed! thank you very much naourt!

  • vulgar? she is a queen you piece of shit she is the best actress in cinema history is funny ,cute ,sexy and sooooooooo talented if you don't have anything nice to say about her then shut the fuck up you asshole

  • She's a good actress, yes. But you sound just as much like an asshole. A person can give their criticism if they want to. They should be free to do it.

  • if u can't be good or better, it's no one else's fault.

  • i like bette's personality dang!

  • "See if you can tell which I'm doing now ... our local stations have a message." LOL! Dick -- you have won my everlasting respect for that great line!

  • "Could you make it two? I have an appointment." LOL!! Dick -- not one but two of the all-time funniest lines, in the same interview! My hat's off to you, sir. You have my undying admiration.

  • GREAT ACTRESS, so was joan, like them both

  • A goddess, for sure.

  • Women like this must have laughed at the "women's lib" movement in the 60s. And rightly so.

  • "Women like this must have laughed at the "women's lib" movement in the 60s. And rightly so."

    True.

  • There were always strong, independent woman who worked in one way or another throughout history. They didn't need a 'movement' to do what they wanted. Standards and conventions come and go, but human nature never changes. There is a price to pay for civilization and at times and for many reasons in any era, it is stiflying to varying degrees for many, male and female. But obstacles can be as narrow as a thin line or as wide as the ocean. When too wide, the independent woman swims or learns to.

  • but she was a very smart and talented lady, and I don't think she lacked any class at all!

  • But come on you really think she don't have class, you're an idiot, if you compare the artist of today in any country, they are all classless, they pale in comparison to the great stars of the past...what a moron!

  • LoL you obviously don't... but educated & inteligent people do care about it

  • lol well I do care, about class, but I think it's ridiculous that you would say she doesn't have any class, just because of her laugh, she was an intelligent and witty lady that had a lot to say, and as for having class, there are people that would interpret that in many different ways, some people might call you classless for being such a negative person, other might not.

  • and as for being educated, that does not automatically guarantee that someone is classy, I know a lot of "educated and intelligent' people that have very little to no class at all.

  • And as for having class, I can guarantee you that I am a very well educated person, and probably have more class that you, at least I don't go around making stupid comments about people...you're a sad and pathetic person, and that's all I have to say...get a life!

  • Intelligent has 2 'L's you moron

  • moron?! LoL Can u translate?

    - o que é que isso quer dizer, pá?

  • Qu'est-ce toi veulent-il dire l'idiot ?

  • is that supposed to be french? lol

  • No. I just wanted to piss him off.
