I'm an atheist. I don't believe there is a god. I also have faith that there is no god.

I also have faith that unicorns do not exist. I also have faith that the sun and moon still exist even when I can't see them. "Faith" has more than one definition. The faith I'm talking about is "trust based upon evidence and reason". "Faith" also happens to have a religious definition. Some people still fail to grasp that in the english language words can have multiple meanings.

Of course they're talking about religion (theism). Atheism is a direct response to theism - e.g.: it is the rejection of theistic claims and belief as a whole. Although the one host suggests it is the opposite of theism, I’m not sure that’s an entirely accurate way of looking at it. Faith in the religious sense means believing in something that can be proven. We atheist lack such a belief. So atheism can not be said to be a faith.

Perhaps they talk most about christianity because the vast majority of the mouth breathers that call in are CHRISTIAN, or it could be because having been raised in the us they have more knowledge of christianity then the do of islam or hinduism.

This caller is correct. These atheists are intellectually dishonest. The motive of this show is to express hatred towards Christians. They claim they speak against Christians because Christians are trying to interfere with their lives. If that is true, why don't they argue on THAT point instead of ridiculing Christians? If it's about "God" then why not talk about Islam? If UFO people wanted to teach about UFO's, I would argue that we should not teach that. I wouldn't argue there are no UFO's.

I would have explained what atheism is, since the caller obviously didn't know. I would have explained that most atheists are ex-christians who have studied the bible to such a degree that we have found many serious problems with it and that's why we aren't Xians anymore!!! And calling the bible god evil is just one of those reasons. Why couldn't these hosts do that? And what I suggested above is not combative, just an effective response.

Some theists claim that god(s) exist. Those who make claims of truth are responsible for providing empirical evidence. If claims are not testable using observation, experience, or experiment, then that evidence is outside of reality. Anything outside of reality can only be believed. Belief allows someone to hold ANYTHING as true. Therefore, anyone who claims knowledge of their god(s) without empirical evidence, is a liar. Atheists do not make claims, they simply do not believe theistic claims.

By the way, I have no problem saying I believe there's no gods. A belief isn't a bad thing, especially when it's based on reason, evidence, and the proper application of both reason and evidence in an unbiased and secular manner. Besides, I find it easier to debate theists when I automatically say I have a belief that no gods exist. It takes away the semantics element as a theist's gambit.

while I would agree that I have no problem saying I believe there's no gods in a colloqiual sense (much the same way I believe there's no unicorns) a lot of people aren't comfortable saying that in any kind of absolute sense because it's so difficult to evidence (unless we're talking about specific gods with qualities like "benevolence")

It's much easier to argue from the null hypothesis rather than a contrapositive position... once you get past the semantics.
