The cavity of the entertainment unit gets filled up with hot air from the electronic equipment, especially when the equipment blows hot air out (PS3). That hot air gets trapped in the cavity as there is only a small hole in the back for the cables. A much better idea would be to place an exhaust fan(s) on the back top to suck that trapped hot air out of the cavity rather than blowing air in from the back. You will then not need any filters and therefore will improve the fan's performance.
@pomidorwp pushing or pulling mostly will achive the same amount of airflow threw the "hot pocket" only reason i chose to forice air threw it was to use the filter as filterd air means less dust getting into my game systems thus saveing me from cleaning them as often. and yes a fan at the actual top of the cabnet would work better as heat rises but thats alot harder to hide
@labeledsk8r45 Most electronic equipments have an exhaust fan "sucking" the hot air out and not. It is simply physics. When you suck the hot air out, then the cool air will go in on its own through the opening, a grill that is usually on the opposite side of the exhaust fan. You can apply the same physics of air circulation when you want to cool down the hot air that gets trapped in the entertainment unit. Sure blowing air will also cool it down, but it is not as effective without exhaust fan.
Buy your self a IR AC power remote control and plug the fan to it. Turn the fan ON or OFF by the remote.

I'm going to use this idea for my grow tent, but I'll be attaching this to the homemade fogger with one of those fountain mist makers.

Woo Mod on the cheap.
You can use 92mm and 120mm fans for a quieter setup with more airflow but i dont think it would work the cd case filter

@forrest89sei indeed, i was just useing parts laying around, the noise isnt that bad at all, cant even hear it when xbox is on
