@coladito1 That's such a nice thing to say! :) You know, we're all part of a chain as there are several modellers I know to whom I aspire to. It's that encouragement that keeps us opening the next box for our next build and pushing our own limits as far as we can!
@MakingModelsAgain I agree, I am very new to this hobby and one thing that I've noticed is that here in America the plastic model hobby is sadly slowing down, in our IPMS group here in California, we have set our goal to reach out to younger modelers to get involved, I thank you again for keeping us inspired and look forward to getting to know you and other YouTubers as well............. one day I'll upload my own work. :)
@modelaircraft12 Thank you! For the cockpit parts I simply used plasticard - readily available sheets of white plastic that is available in a variety of thicknesses. Even then, I had to thin mine further for this scale. As you can see from the pre-paint stage, they are not perfectly square, but once painted and weathered, they look fine. Also, at 1/144, I'd welcome anyone to point that out in the finished model! Happy modelling my good man! :)
WOW great work mate. i love how you can turn a simple airfix model in to something well... frankly amazing really inspired me to stop just churning them out every few days or so and really spend some time working on them. by the way you must have some rock steady hands because when i build 1/144 model you can bet on it that i am going to brake at least 1 piece
@Mraussieadventurer Thanks mate! :) You may notice in the video, that after the clips where I've stuck all the various bits on, as the video progresses, more and more are missing! I don't know how many times I broke off those ailerons and stabiliser struts. So much so, I eventually left them off until the very end! :)
@MovieKid169 Thank you for your kind words and you'll be glad to know that I've made a start on my next kit - The Airfix 1/144 HP42 Heracles in which I intend to scratch-build both the passenger cabins and the cockpit! Stay tuned! :)
@oldcdger Heheh, I couldn't help myself - it just sort of snowballed and I did even consider cutting into the wings or at least one wing and attempt to show the machine gun, but enough was enough. Maybe if I'd thought of that at the begining... ;)
I sell cars for a living so as you might imagine I'm not the sort of person who is often lost for words but WOW! I don't know what to say to this video. It's like watching the work of an insane genius (meant as a compliment!)
Your skill is unrivalled, seriously. To turn this model into the end result you achieved is simply astonishing. Astonishing.
One day I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and super detail a model. My trouble would be having the patience!
@dondeyout1 Thank you very much for that, Dan, I really appreciate it! I think I might be addicted to 1/144 now as I have quite a few in the stash and my next project is the old (and I do mean old - it's in a 'red stripe' box which I think is '65 on!) Airfix Handley Page H.P.42 Heracles and of course, I aim to scratch-build as much as possible again, namely the cockpit and the two passenger cabins as well as rigging and aileron actuators. I've already starting lopping bits off it! :)
Excellent build with such a small scale kit. I have enough problems with just th 1/72 scale and not being able to work with the small parts. Nice video and I look forward to your next project.
@888HamilkarBarkas888 Aw, cheers Michael, I really appreciate that! I'm tellin' ya, I needed a beer or two both during and after this one! I dare say the next one wont be any different... :)
@MakingModelsAgain i don´t think so, you will find something to add extra details :) your models are always nice, with or without "some" extra work. i´m looking forward to hear and see what your next project will be!
your video was very inspireing, i´m trying to scratchbuild as many extra details as possible on a spanish galleon from revell in 1/450 scale. this kit is for beginners and has only a few parts. i will try to make it unique :)
@TheSeasonman1 Thank you. I kept telling myself that these details were no different than say, making an intricate engine part or cockpit unit for a larger scale kit, but instead of a single component, I was making an entire part of the plane!
WOW its superb and the model and the diorama! But you should add a technicians and some bombes around the model! I didn't think it is possible to do this in thi scale. You inspired to do that in the far away future! :0 Great video!
@tankman13p66 Well, I do have the cowlings and spat fairings that can go in the dio, and I'm trying to source a picture of a bomb cart so that I can show the bomb about to be loaded. :)
@mp4f1 Thank you. It's nice when the video gets a mention. Sometimes I think I edit to quickly as I keep to the time of the track, but I suppose that's what the pause button is for! Thanks again! :)
@kyffaa The surface detail on these kits is excellent - especially considering the scale. Just a shame they didn't do at least something for the cockpit, but then, I wouldn't have had the fun (and gained the valuable experience) of building my own!
@wolf6500 Cheers John, had a lot of fun with this one seeing just how far I could take it and I'm sure I could have gone a few steps more, but I'll leave that for the next one! :)
@BasicModelling Yup. Well, may have to go back for another prescription because next on the agenda is the Airfix Handley Page H.P.42 Heracles with, yup, you've guessed it - scratch-built interior! Am trying to figure out just how I am going to stitch "Imperial Airways" on 30-odd pairs od curtains at this scale!!! ;)
It's the modelling equivalent of crack - scratch-building. Once you start - you cannot stop! :)
@MakingModelsAgain I know.. that's why I don't!! :) Having said that, when I have finished my spell of Saab aircraft which I hope to cover over the next few months, in honour of their 75th Anniversary, I will try and tackle the venerable Airfix 1/72 Gloster Gladiator.. which means a completely scratchbuilt cockpit, possibly a vac-form canopy (Your help would be greatly appreciated) and some ready bought resin and white metal parts.. pending other projects, as usual! :)
@BasicModelling Well I also have the Gladiator and the stump/blob of a canopy is certainly ctying out for a vacform, so I would gladly do that. The one problem with using the kit part as the mould is that the sudden application of heat often causes it to crack and once gone, it's gone, so I'm trying to think of a way to make a moulding of it so that can be used in its stead. Probably milliput or something like that.
@MakingModelsAgain Sounds like a good idea... but failing that I have about three kits of the Airfix Glad, so got some spares to work with.. mainly in case I botch the cockpit cut out / figure blob removal.. :) What I mean to say is that I can send you a couple, if need be.. canopies, that is.. :) I have to confess I have the first model of the year already, it's a F-111 Aardvark in 1/144 scale, with a very VERY poor attempt at scracthbuilding a cockpit.. (continued)
(continued) I'm not particularly pleased with the end result as it doesn't much look like an Aardvark to me.. but at least I managed to build it without botching it.. apart from one thing which will be shown in the video, when I post it! First I will post a '2011 Build Review' though, of the models completed last year, it is in the making but it is a slow process.. :) Too many photos to try and locate and sift through, chosing good ones to best represent the models.. :)
How did you make so big penny?
