there are plenty of sufi tariqas present in america, among the more known one here, there is naqshbandi and the shadhili tariqas, if ud like i can get u more info on the traditional islamic path god willing.

each sufi order has taken up practices from that specific area to gain closeness to Allah. for example qawwali in Pakistan, or spoken word poetry in America.

my friend, going near these shrines and offering Fateha is not a problem but unfortunately SHIRK happens there...i once visited Data Darbar and saw people asking and praying infront of the graves etc...i believe that ask only from Allah and pray only to him ;)

I miss Lahore where I lived for 3 years doing university. By then I was a orthodox Islamist as brainwashed by parents, so never went near these shrines. Now I think how stupid I used to be. Then Allah gave me a chance to get out of the hands of Mullas and become a Sufi. I got my salvation from Rumi, Kabir, Shah Hussain, Sultan Bahu, Bulleh Shah etc. Thanks suifies, U r the real face of Islam and real hope for humanity. I wish one day I will return to Lahore and pay my humble regards to Sufies.
