Who is supposed to be the predominant voice here, the vocals or the guitar? The guitar sound overshadows everything else that I can hardly understand what the lyrics are -not a good thing in praise music. Beyond that, what role does the acoustic and keys play within the song? Were they even in the mix? I'm not here just to dump on what these people are doing but has anyone listened critically to this song?
@jgreensound the guitar is brought up in the mix for those who want to learn the lead guitar part for the song. That's what the dvd is for, for musicians who want to learn the parts.

Look for the live version of this song on YouTube and you'll hear louder vocals and more ambient sounds in the background (also removed from this version, I believe)

Hillsong generally record live, @ live Album recording, which is just a very large church service held at the Olypmic Stadium or Entertainment Centre. It is exactly the same as a normal church service, even with alter call, but is recorded. and with all services in one, 20,000 plus people. The reason being simply put we want the Holy spirit there. A studio recording might not achieve this...
I think one of the reasons why the Hillsong band has such a huge sound is also because they have those "unnecessary" musicians or singers, the layers added to the overall sound actually have a good effect on the whole ensemble. Plus they fill spaces on their big stage to for the a good stage presentation.

i think it sounds a lot better when you strip the band down to just 1 singer, 1 rhythm guitar, 1 lead guitar, 1 bass player, and 1 drummer. oh, and the keys in there too. but hillsong always seems to put like 5 singers up there, in addition to the already full band, and usually three of them have acoustics too. to me, that is pretty unnecessary.
the guitars are not all coming out front of house... they're just for show lol hillsong are good with their harmonies too. They don't have 5 singers at the same level. They have a lead singer and some quieter harmonies. In the studio this would be done with one singer and overdubs but hillsong are playing live.
@matrixman609 yeah for also its unecessary but remember that this was a full church concert so the probably put all those guys for one reason.... but i agree with you it sounds better with few instruments and only one voice

i came across your videos of the Creative DVD training and i was pretty affected by it. I understand that good things are meant to be shared especially things that glorify God, worship. My friend shipped in excitedly this piece of wonderful DVD from hillsong and i'm upset for her because its released to the public via youtube. I think it would be better for sharing privately with friends and church members rather than posting it on youtube.
