I personally think marijuana is still illegal because it would ruin the the tobacco industry. People only started smoking cigarettes for the LOOK of it. It looked cool to them. But with marijuana being legal they'll get to look cool AND get high. The benefits of marijuana far outweigh those of tobacco, and the thing is, tobacco is and has been one of the US Governments biggest moneymakers because people get ADDICTED and use it MUCH more frequently than most marijuana users use weed.

@xRAWRER As for why it became illegal in the first place, two reasons that I'm aware of are 1) racism towards Mexicans working inside the U.S. and 2) it was a way to justify higher budgets (more power and control) for the DEA forerunner, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and its asshole commissioner Harry J. Anslinger. As for why it's still illegal today you have an assortment of reasons to pick from. None of which are for any good. Ignorance on behalf of society is probably one of the biggest.

Inhaling anything is "bad for you". The combusted plant matter in marijuana is no different and I believe it would give you cancer IF it didn't have cannabinoids. However, it appears that the cannabinoids (THC, CBD, CBN ect.) actually act as a anti-cancer. Therefore, the only bad thing to come out of smoking cannabis (heavily) is perhaps some minor throat or lung problems like coughing, weezing, or maybe bronchitis or something. Basically, weed is one of THE safest substances known to man.

I know bitchin’ about it can sound anal to some so I usually don’t but if we want it legal we’re going to need non partakers to see it more for what it really is which is anything but bad. Also agree with you that marijuana is not a drug but the THC contained within it actually is. In the same way as coffee isn’t a drug but caffeine is.

@xRAWRER As for why it became illegal in the first place, two reasons that I'm aware of are 1) racism towards Mexicans working inside the U.S. and 2) it was a way to justify higher budgets (more power and control) for the DEA forerunner, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and its asshole commissioner Harry J. Anslinger. As for why it's still illegal today you have an assortment of reasons to pick from. None of which are for any good. Ignorance on behalf of society is probably one of the biggest.

@xRAWRER - I agree with you about the soccer mom example but you should probably become more informed about cannabis if you're talking facts. Smoking marijuana has many important benefits but I've never seen any evidence that smoking it cures cancer. However, there is much evidence that high concentrations of THC and other cannabinoids (namely in the form of eating "honey oil") does indeed cure many cancers. @xRAWRER Alright I will check that out, and yes I have heard it does cure cancer. There was these two boys, I forgot if they were brothers or not and they were young and they had brain cancer. The docter perscribed them marijuana and their brain cancer decreased a lot. If you want to know a lot more facts about it watch the movie called "The Union: The Business Behind getting High". That's where I heard that cancer fact.

@ryno2085 Left out some key facts that makes them seem even more stupid. 10 BILLION taxpayer dollars are used each year enforcing marijuana prohibition. And yes THC does fight cancer cells when given in large doses. In other words if it was legal we could have an alternative to kemo by now. Mexican drug cartels are making millions off of marijuana being illegal, while the us could save 10 billion a year from it being legal and thats not evening counting added revenue from taxing it.

The D.E.A. has a huge budget, if we legalize pot what happens that budget it shrinks and people loose their jobs. I say good we need less spending and more tax revenue from making pot legal. It is a fact that marijuana like every drug has some side effects, but it is also beneficial. The good it does out ways the bad side affects. Like memory loss, the possibility of cancer. If you stay high all day long life would suck you just wouldn't know it, but recreational use is fine maybe even healthy.

I found out today that I have remarkably good blood pressure. Really low but not low enough to be dangerous. I explained my diet and exercise routines (which are VERY poor lol) to her and she had no idea why my blood pressure was that low especially considering my genetic predisposition for high blood pressure. Inhaling anything is "bad for you". The combusted plant matter in marijuana is no different and I believe it would give you cancer IF it didn't have cannabinoids. However, it appears that the cannabinoids (THC, CBD, CBN ect.) actually act as a anti-cancer. Therefore, the only bad thing to come out of smoking cannabis (heavily) is perhaps some minor throat or lung problems like coughing, weezing, or maybe bronchitis or something. Basically, weed is one of THE safest substances known to man.

@Hubcool367 they've actually found that marijuana can cure brain cancer. the tested it on rats and found that the rats' malignant tumors were gone after receiving the cannabanoids. the only reason it's not being used is because pharmaceutical are extremely threatened by such a reliable, medically beneficial substance that can be used to treat such a large number of ailments.

BUT now if you use other methods, such as a vaporizer , where you aren't actually breathing smoke- much safer. and if you just use it like a lot of other herbal preparations, or baked into food.... much safer. but it needs heat to release its beneficial oils etc.

Even if there were bars like in other countries, you can walk by and not get high.
