Dr. Seuss's message in this story was he thought people were missing the point of Christmas. Now because of technology and spreading economic developments, he saw people starting to embrace a spirit of consumerism and massive shopping & buying toys and other kinds of consumer goods in Christmas. He thought that was the only reason why people liked Christmas, so this is why he wrote this story.
