@atomichead777 I'm dead serious. I own 2 32x's and am always on the lookout for more. If you think it's a bad system, then you have obviously nev er played one.
I loved Megadrive but honestly it was clear for anyone to see SNES had the uper hand. The graphics were slightly better and the sound effects to plus it had a better library of games while on Megadrive imo the only games that were good were games made by Sega themselves and MK as it had was faithful to the arcade while the SNES version sucked.
I seriously miss playing Knuckles' Chaotix. Favourite game evar. Star Wars Arcade was nice, though I'm not sure how I ever enjoyed Cosmic Carnage/Cyber Brawl (though with the light/heavy/light set up I kicked ass with the blond girl, Ray).
I do remember that after the credits ended for DOOM, you would see, "C://_" and the game would then freeze.
@101Volts That was how Sega of America commercials were back then. Their basic marketing strategy: If you flash through a bunch of incoherent images and gameplay footage quickly enough that viewers can't get any real sense of what the games look like and play like, gamers who see the commercial will be convinced they just saw something awesome.
The strategy usually worked. However, even gamers knew there was no sense buying a 32X when the Saturn and Playstation were about to hit stores.
@AssociationAdmirer Hard to imagine. The Sega CD's games were bad (But in a so bad they're good kind of way) On the other hand the 32x was pretty bad.
@flameheat1000 Yeah, The Sega CD wasn't too bad but with the 32x and the high Saturn price (And releasing the Saturn far too early) Sega dug a grave for themselves in the console market. (The Saturn was and still is a good system though) The last nail in their coffin was not designing the Dreamcast with a DVD drive, Everyone bought a Playstation 2 because DVDs were new then and PS2 also had a DVD player in it.
They should have worked solely on Saturn... but hindsight is always 20/20, especially regarding those frontier days of gaming.
Neptune was probably a dead end though. The next generation was right around the corner and there was little chance Sega could sell the unit cheaply without taking serious losses.
stupid sega advert typically shows 0.01 secs of the games all wrapped up in a load of BS. shame as I really like sega - especially the Jap saturn, the saturn pad is still the best of it's type today. sega got that right. Btw anyone remember sega worlds? when I lived in london years ago and they opened one in wood green, the place was massive and full of loads of brilliant arcade machines but there was no one in there - it was always deserted! sega went bust 4 yrs later, I wonder why!
- Genesis was way more than awesome and was one of the best things to grace the gaming world.
- Sega CD was quite good for the time and would have been better with less video and moar gameplay. Some games are actually very good.
And
- 32X was pure bullshit right off the cap.
I mean, it would have been better if they just sped up the development of the Saturn and did 32X's games for it instead of making the life-draining mushroom....
yeah buts its the add-ons that require the system that lost them the money saying do the same this but one console era forward so sega would have been out of the console race after this console generation not the last :P
You underestimate 32X. And the port of Doom on SNES - HAVE YOU PLAYED IT LATELY? ITS HORRID! FRAMERATE!!! there are several good games on the 32X. (I still play mine occasionally) And if your playing DOOM on anything other than PC you are DOING IT WRONG, so the 32X vs SNES port of doom is pointless to bring up.
You can't compare tham, they are too similar, and awesome in their own way. I do agree that SNES is the best one, but hey SNES is the best system of all time and to compete with such a beast, the MegaDrive must have been pretty damn good too.
i liked the Genesis better than SNES. Also, i liked the Sega CD, it was the best thing about the Genesis (in my opinion). I'm not sure about the 32X tho....
Man I can't WAIT to buy one of these! I was deciding between super nintendo and this, and this is much better! The commercial proves it! Next I'll need to get one of the next gen systems. I will probably get the sega!
good heavens, please tell me that was sarcasm, bassbait. Get yourself a SNES, can't go wrong with that. Best console ever, maybe. Pick up a SNES and some games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Mario Kart, Yoshi's Island, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World and Street Fighter II Turbo and be thankful you're not stuck playing useless crap like this. 32x is just life support for the Genesis.
street fighter 2 turbo on snes is broken garbage, chrono trigger is fun but overrated and has a terrible plot, yoshi's island is shit, and super mario kart is boring. fuck you.
And this means you feel that Zelda: A Link To The Past isn't good? Wow. I love the Genesis and I REALLY love the Dreamcast, but if all Sega fanboys are like you and KoolDudester, then I'm gonna throw my beloved Genny in the trash. This is just sad.
CDs were the next big thing back then, right? Hence the Sega CD. "Hey man, doncha know CDs are the next thing, man? What, are you still playing with cartridges on your Super Nintendo? Get with the times."
Okay. Whatever. So now the next level is....cartridges? Uh...
yeah, CD players were still expensive back then. But the Sega CD sucks because of gaming, the games were awful, and the foll motion video was limited to small boxes of grainy footage of horrendously bad acting and dialogue. It may or may not have been a good player for your audio CDs, but it's still a waste when the games, graphics and audio are crummy.
And 32x is even worse, because it's back to cartridges while pretending to still be "advanced". B.S.
uh 32x is worse? you gave a reason that really doesn't mean anything. nintendo ds is better then psp and it uses cartridges... do you actually own a 32x because half the people that even talk shit about it never owned / played one
Hey man, I love cartridges! Sometimes I wish we could go back to 'em but that's unrealistic.
No, I don't own a 32x because the tiny amount of good games does not warrant buying the useless thing. It does have some very good titles like Virtua Racing, Blackthorne, some of the shmups, and particularly Space Harrier, which is sweet, way better than any other console version. I have played lots of 32x games and I just don't see the need for it. Many of those games could have been on Genesis instead.
offcourse they didnt have enough money or guts to show this piece of shit for longer then a minute, sega atleast should have henched theyre arcade games in home.
It was a peripheral that you added to your Genesis cartridge slot that allegedly allowed more advanced graphics and power in 32 bits, and also made the system look like a retarded mushroom.
ok i have the 32x and i wish i never bought it it was a wast of $1.00 im dead sirous i got it at a yard sale the only good game for it the kuckles caotioc doom is ass the sound sucks and it only has 7 levles wail the snes has 14
i am not saying sega sucks, im just saying 32x sucks, the sega cd was also problamatic but great games were made for it *cough* sonic cd*cough* But you know it's funny, genesis DOES what nintendon't, even though they can't let the sega cd run of the genesis's power. Nintendo made this gun thing for NES that, instead of useing batteries like superscope, ran of the nes's power ...granted you looked gay useing it... Well anyway in my last rant i said somthing about CD-32x games, and it looks messy.

internet!) and if you have a CD/32X, and saturn, put them side to side, look at the graphics and format (format first!) you'll see it then, it's that drilled into our gaming history
Now that I rambled about the 32X, the sega cd just made the saturn beta conspiracy even more complete cause the CD/32X combo made it obvious to me that the saturn was being forced to encourage more beta testers/customers to try this even more pointless media format/hardware tests, im not making this up! they re-released the cd combo units numerous times to cover up something, and you thought sega was trying to improve their sales, they did this because they were popular...
they should have just concentrated on the saturn and not 32x and the sega cd they colud of just made sonic cd thats the only good sega cd game and put it on saturn and called it sonic saturn or somthin like that who needs corpse killer well maybe night trap was ok but not that scottie pippin basketball game or boxing game
if Sega wouldn't have oversaturated their own market and were smart enough to incorporate the "neptune" (32X+genesis) and Sega CD compatability into the Saturn, they could've had a winner that would've obliterated EVERYBODY. Granted, it would've cost alot more then, so maybe just better planning would've helped.
it was a butchered beta system with shitty hints like, pre-developed cheap ass software,
the price being because of the dedicated prebuilt motherboard being the system, (which practically makes it almost none like a REAL system and more like a dev tester, you got fucked for enhancing your genesis with subliminal beta testing, its what makes add-ons so bad in the first place.
Stolar was brought onto an already sinking ship (Saturn), and while he could've managed that better, it wasn't going to win against the PSOne in America by the time he was brought on board.
Don't forget he managed the most successful American console launch ever, and fought Sega of Japan on Dreamcast pricing and things like the modem being included.
I notice you were watching "Speed" before going to the 32X commercial ;) Thw hoopla over 32X...Turned out to be a dud. But I did buy one for collector's sake. Only 2 favorite titles were Kolibri and Tempo in my book.
It didn't ruin the Genesis, it turned the Genesis and Sega CD from 16-bit to 32-bit, on levels with 3DO, PlayStation, and Saturn.
Truth be told what ruined the 16-bit systems was Sega Saturn. Because Sega decided to support it solely and discontinued their 16-bit line while they were still rolling high and gave it way to Nintendo. That was the whole that eventually swallowed Sega.
The transition from the Genesis area marked the start of the downfall of SEGA as hardware company, although it would take the tons of cash lost on the Dreamcast to end their hardware days. SEGA confused the market by promoting multiple formats at the same time....standard genesis games, 32x games, and the SEGA CD and then dumping them all them with the launch of the Saturn, which didn't sit well with many of SEGA's best customers-those who actually plunked down cash for the 32x and SEGA CD.
Would have made sense if this were for Nintendo.

they should have just concentrated on the saturn and not 32x and the sega cd they colud of just made sonic cd thats the only good sega cd game and put it on saturn and called it sonic saturn or somthin like that who needs corpse killer well maybe night trap was ok but not that scottie pippin basketball game or boxing game

but they were forcing hardware/software/format
beta tests on us through sales dont you see? thats why theyre ADD-ON'S! (plus no internet and monthly magazines to expose the secret)

if Sega wouldn't have oversaturated their own market and were smart enough to incorporate the "neptune" (32X+genesis) and Sega CD compatability into the Saturn, they could've had a winner that would've obliterated EVERYBODY. Granted, it would've cost alot more then, so maybe just better planning would've helped.

I loved the 32x, but man what a marketing disaster for Sega. Terrible moment in gaming as far as I'm concerned.

it was a butchered beta system with shitty hints like, pre-developed cheap ass software,
the price being because of the dedicated prebuilt motherboard being the system, (which practically makes it almost none like a REAL system and more like a dev tester, you got fucked for enhancing your genesis with subliminal beta testing, its what makes add-ons so bad in the first place.

ladies and gentlemen, the beginning of the end of sega's hardware days. bernie stolar and the PS2 didn't help either.
VViewer92 4 years ago
Stolar was brought onto an already sinking ship (Saturn), and while he could've managed that better, it wasn't going to win against the PSOne in America by the time he was brought on board.
Don't forget he managed the most successful American console launch ever, and fought Sega of Japan on Dreamcast pricing and things like the modem being included.

That guy had a game in his ear!
The 32X was pretty bad. Only good games on it were Doom, Knuckles' Chaotix, and Star Wars.

I notice you were watching "Speed" before going to the 32X commercial ;) Thw hoopla over 32X...Turned out to be a dud. But I did buy one for collector's sake. Only 2 favorite titles were Kolibri and Tempo in my book.

32X commercials were extremely fast-paced like they were trying to make you have an epiphany and buy a 32X.

32X was cool when it worked.
