  • Your dog is not being dominant. i have a page that explains what dominance is on my web site. Clearly poorly socialized therefore fearful.

  • To see why giving food does not make the dog more aggressive watch the video on my youtube channel called jack russell terrier aggressive when blowing in face.

Now if with your technique the dog is not focused on you and is just acting more nervous and trying to growl, lunge at people then you could be making him worse. Thats not the food beign the issue, that would be your timing, reinforcement rate, how you move.

  • he said having a pup like mine (3months old) when the pup wasnt social anything before, he would put him on the bench or the desk in the park which making him fear and calm, letting the people to touch him, and let the puppy knows people is nice to him anyway. later on , he will get on well with ppl. now my pup is 5 months old, i should use 1.5meter high desk to let him calm, he said.

    Cheers

  • If he's really fearful that can make him worse. e.g. if you were fearful of spiders you may not feel safe being on a table with spiders walking up to pet you. Even if they were nice spiders that might not make you feel better.

I have chapter on How to Behave so your dog behaves (chapter 3) and in Low stress handling, restraint and beh mod (chapter 2 includes video) that goes over this as well as chapters that explain what options you have and why some can make the animal worse.

  • BTW, a dog trainer diagnose my methods were training my pup to become a aggressive dog to people. I were using the method which i mentioned on the previous comment.. mostly i used the positive one, like position reinforcement, counter conditioning.. (tho im not sure using the method correctly or not, we dont have dog behavior specilaist or dog trainer here).....

  • oops. I accidentaly removed your previous comment. Can you repost.

  • Yip! here is my previos comment:

my dog is 4 months miniature schnauzer, i got him when he was 3months old, he didnt have a good socialization when he was in the kennel, didnt meet enough people, didnt go outside and didnt see any other dogs besides his mother and siblings. he barking so hard and intimidating to bite the people which he is not famililar with.( i thk he is kind of fear aggressive, or is he a donimance aggressive dog?)

  • i used the method learing from you "dog aggression to people" last night during the walk, (and other methods which are not forcing or punishing my dog too much before i found your videos).. haha, it worked!!! but later on, he just not showing interested on me, felt quite nervous and barking when people passing by again,(well, its better, just occasionally).... what if i dont have the treat , how to improve his behavior to social people?

hope you understand my poor english :p

    THX!!

  • Watch the video on Podees aggression. Really if does are super easy you can just do what you think you saw on the video and the dog does well. But if the dog's a little bit harder or much harder you actually need to know some of the steps that went on. e.g. for challenging dogs, they need to go through the learn to earn program first which I have on the articles page of my web site under "perfect puppy in 7 days." I'll have more detailed info on my Online Animal Behavior Courses site eventually.

  • You call a dog like that Bambi and what happens?!!!

  • what kind of dog is this and why did they get its tail cropped?

  • It's a mixed breed that was adopted. Whoever bred it accidentally or on purpose had it's tail cropped. This usually occurs before 5 days of age--which is well before anyone adopts a pup.

  • i like the trainer here - confident, calm and consistent. nice approach, and very matter of fact. great results too - which shows the owner must also have been determined and followed through all the training. just shows with a bit of good training that you can change a dogs behaviour.

    great work!

  • Regarding her tail. you can see in the initial video that her tail is down. If it were longer you'd see that it would have been between her legs. She's not barking out of confidence, She's actually scared. I didn't notice that until later on (after I saw the video).

  • this dog is wild.......... with a small brain to boot. p.s. NEVER EVER CUT OF A DOGS TAIL!!!!!...THAT'S HOW THEY COMMUNICATE!

  • Actually she was pretty sweet but had been trained accidentally by owner and roommates to be aggressive. One played tug of war with her and teased her with gloved hands into snapping at his hands. The other would inconsistently use physical punishment on her while rewarding her for the same behaviors at other times (unknowingly). And they tied her out in front of the house a lot so she got lots of practice barking at people who walked by and other things that scared her.

  • Luckily dogs communicate with much more than their tails, especially since some dogs have naturally docked tails and some dogs (such as pugs) have screw tails and others have tails that generally sit high and curl over onto their backs (which makes them look permanently aroused/alert/ excited and which could be misread by other dogs if the dogs don't also read the rest of the dog's body posture).

  • I loved this video! Dr. Yin's book, "How to Behave So Your Dog Will," is also great. Her attitude and knowledge about dogs offer a lot of hope for using good will and knowledge to solve all kinds of problems!

  • Stupid....you are rewarding the dog for being aggressive

  • Hah. That's what most beginners think. It turns out by tossing treats you can change the underlying emotional state. I'm not tossing treats frequently enough to keep the dog in a happy state AND I keep going over her threshold of reaction. To see what I mean go to my channel (superbark1) and watch JRT Aggressive when blowing in face. I give treats to the dog whenever he raises his lip/growls when I blow in his face. In 5 minutes he's no longer aggressive.

  • Great job! So nice to see people REWARDING good behavior, instead of just punishing bad behavior, which is what a lot of popular "trainers" do.

  • I reward good and punch in the face bad.

  • i have 2 small dogs and they have the same problem.. and they recently started to bite people.. i hope i can train them as well as you did

  • Wonderful work.

  • thats just amazing, 2 week transformaion, i realy loved it. good trainer, and an owner ho loved his dog,
