great job guys (and gals?)! true heroes. although any fire or ems scene could have always went better, a good job under severe stress deserves an A+. as for people who try to "monday night quarterback" the situation, all i have to say it this; they were not there. you(firefighter who were there) know what you did and i and the people rescued are in admiration for that. keep up the good work.
I find myself dissapointed with most of what Im reading about this video. The series of videos on this fire proves that the Lowel FD is a credit to the fire service. 9 people were rescued before this and this is video of the attempted resuce of the 10th person by extreamly fatigued firefighters. 0:26 shows the FF trying to pull the victim to the bucket. The last thing I would say about this is that the departments tactics are lacking. Outstanding job by the guys working this fire.
I would have to agree that it seems the tactics of this department are lacking something. There is another video of the actual removal of occupants down off the balcony and it was well before the fire progressed to this extent. I am not sure why the bucket is still in that position unless it is still there for firefighter safety because it seems in this video that the crews are bailing out of that window. At least everyone went home safe!! FIR NA TINE
Whats up with the firefighter with half of his PPE on that keeps going up and down the ladder ? he could have atleast grabed a 1 1/2 or 2" hand line and took it up with him!
If you listen closely, at 1:29 and 1:32, one of the F/F's up top says 3 times; "keep that line comin'" and then again at 2:27 and a few more times after wards. He's calling the shots from up top. The line is knocking back the fire and cooling the heat as a water curtain. Great job...well executed!
@dodadrj Your correct, but i sure would be pissed at the nozzle man hitting me directly multiple times with that rate of flow. He could very easy have knocked one off that tower( around 3:20). I personally would have asked for 2 lines, 1 directed on the left 2 windows and the second on the right windows. That way he is not flowing back and fourth hitting the guys straight stream like that. The nozzle man around 3:40 hit that firefighter to long with a straight stream, i would be pissed.
@efdengine3 , Hey junior, wake the fuck up! What's worse, getting wet or burning up while trying to rescue someone? That stream from below had a POSITIVE effect on the operation.
Next time you see a member of the fire department be sure say Thank You for keeping us safe
