I saw these guys before most current fans knew who they were back in 2001. They just totally killed live. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. They did this as an encore and I had goosebumps the size of the mountains.
@barcigian You will be surprised to know that Lady Gaga can actually SING. Don't be too quick just judging artists just by their image and external appearance and try to listen to their music first (just as most of us PT fans here do). Miss Gaga also appears to be able to write some very interesting lyrics which give food for thought, I realized this when a good friend advised me to read them and not only listen to them.
@sendanor Don't judge me like I've never listened her music because I did... A lot... My Girlfriend doesn't listen to anything else, only GaGa, Spears, KeSha and other stuff like that..
I've nothing against her as a singer or songwriter.. Just her music that I can't swallow...
@barcigian OK, that's fair, this explanation makes things a little more clear. Sorry if I understood your reaction for a judgment being based on looks.
@Op3thiangr I just saw them in NYC at the Radio City Music Hall. They played a bunch of old stuff on a 3 hour set. So awesome. I've seen them twice now and nothing has beaten it and nothing will.
Good music! Good lyrics! Some really decent music! Reminds me of the Floyds, just a bit... Tink I should listen to them guys a bit more :-) I really enjoyed this piece of music. Keep on playing like this guys! :-)
@skyskraper31 Sorry, but no. Steven Wilson is a great guitarist, but David is the God of progressive guitar IMO. Steven can do better riffs though, I'll give him that.
@skyskraper31 Don't think gilmour would have to eat his heart out to this, I'm afraid. He's on another planet from Steven Wilson when it comes to playing guitar, and that is no disrespect to Wilson, either, who is a great guitarist in his own right. But Gilmour, you're talking about one of the very best guitarists ever
Man...when you listen well to the lyrics, it gives you the creeps and a fair warning to future genreations. I read a book about the moments before, during and directly after the Hiroshima bombing...all the horrible visions that passed through my head were evoked by this song in exactly the same way...this tells something about the songwriting quality of PT...
@sendanor : The thing is, this whole CD was supposedly just a big satire kinda thing, and when i found that out and went back through the whole CD, i laughed at myself. Nonetheless before then i had the same kinda shivers
Whatever one may find of this song, PT or Pink Floyd-like: the song is heading my symfo-playlist for already two months and it is very unlikely to change in a short period of time....
Regarding the comparisons to PF...I'd say there's an *influence* but PT is PT. And PT=SW, pretty much, IMHO. It's obvious he's the dominating force regardless of what he works on. And that's a very, very good thing! Can't get enough of this guy.
About the Pink Floyd argue: I'm a huge fan of PT, but I honestly don't think they sound simular. But even Wilson have said that he tried to please some Pink Floyd fans and now regret it a little. But as someone wrote. The more you listen to porcupine tree, you don't compare them to others. To me they are just Porcupine Tree, the best band on earth. :)
The more you listen to Porcupine Tree music, the more you realize, they really only sound like Procupine Tree. Sure this is from the first CD and Steven is a HUGE fan of David Gilmour. But listen to stuff from many other cds, no resemblance to Pink Floyd at all
"For me that is so insulting, because it insinuates that you are living in the shadow of some other band. I particularly never wanted to be the new anybody, I just wanted to be the old Porcupine Tree, or the new Porcupine Tree."
Err.. herrbatka, I don't care what picture you add whatsoever, I just enjoy this beautiful piece of music and that is what should matter.. a big thanksh!!
I fucking love this band. anyone that says PT has no talent doesn't know what they are talking about. look at the theory behind their music, its extremely simple, yet complex in its own right.
