If you lock your knees, the blood doesn't circulate properly. Your brain loses oxygen and shuts down. This is what happens on airplanes too; the oxygen is too thin thousands of feet up, so if the cabin depressurizes, you lose consciousness. Happened once to me when doctors were drawing blood. Here's a hint: if you're standing for long amounts of time, make sure to wiggle your legs a little or bend them. Don't lock your knees. Also make sure to drink plenty of water.
