  • это ахуенно я щитаю

  • Second Piano Sonata quote at 0:30?

  • thank you for the post.

  • From the start of the Ossia up to the 3rd start of the main theme...5:03.... is on of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. Those russians sure know melody.

  • Imagine, just imagine, sitting in the audience listening to this... It would be amazing...

  • One person is completely stupid!!!!!! Must die!!!! Kill him!

  • Yikes, This is so hard, I cannot even pretend to play it, and I play the piano pretty well. This song is proof that there is a God. I don't see any other way that something so beautiful and hard could exist.

  • @pfewell its because the human mind is wonderful, not because there is a god, god doesnt exist, but Yefim Bronfman , he exist!, there is your proof, nothing else!

  • This is the only version of the ossia cadenza that I like. Others play it in a very restrained way.

  • all of it is absolutely brilliant, but for me, part at 1:55 just makes me proud of living in the same world as Rachmaninoff lived

  • Anyone else also think that the normal cadenza, although not as difficult, is much more beautiful?

  • oH MY GOOOOOOD!!!!!!

  • awesome performance :-0

  • Why would part one have three times as many views as this? The Ossia cadenza is in part 2!

  • @vshagoyan happens in every piece of this kind, i wonder if people actually think it ended in first video... and i mean, in every single video of this kind happens... in chopin's 4th ballade by zimerman is very funny.

  • the ossia is awesome

  • I just cant stop listen to the cadenza... .

  • The best part is fromm 0:00 to 9:59

  • The Greatest Rach3 , hands down. With apologies to Rach, Horowitz, Berman, and Gilels.

  • @TheRealGnolti

And to bronfman himself? Personally I find his old version better, it is also in better sound quality

    watch?v=gtcBOdaraDg

  • @TheRealGnolti i wouldn't go as far to say better than horowitz and rach, but this is still almost incomparable.

    bravo bronfman

  • @MrRaphaelBM mistakes are part of the art, they are the price of a more exciting performance, practically free.

  • @MrRaphaelBM i don't see wht is so god awful about mistakes, its part of humanity, now don't get pissy, even though getting pissy is very human to as well.

  • @MrRaphaelBM Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but "There is something about artistry and perfection that is contradictory".

  • I love the ossia cadenza!!

  • I love this cadenza. 1:31 - 2:02 is so good it leaves me speechless. There are no words to describe what I feel when I hear it. Fabulous!

I also find 3:27 - 3:45 amazingly beautiful. It makes me cry.

  • Delicioso!...

  • Great candenza!

  • Love Bronfman's ossia cadenza, though I think he did a better job of it when he recorded this piece with Salonen and The Philharmonia back in 1992.

  • What I love about his cadenza is that you always think that it couldn’t possibly get any more intense, but it does – and he does it without making it that much louder. Breathtaking. Wonderful.

  • Absolute perfection!!! I've searched on youtube for others who can at least match this and there are none that even come close.

  • I think that his version is absolutly superb and great playing is amazing... but i dont know what's to prefeer if this or Volodos's version......

  • at 5:52, for convenience

  • oh my god, i love the ending of the first movement so much.

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

  • 3':28 is Fima at his best, not any less than his magnificent rendition of the the candenza.

  • Plays it like he means it......

  • Bronfman understands the ossia cadenza way better than any other pianist I've seen - spine-tingling. Simply amazing.

  • I told my friend that it wasn't a major event knowing different tunes from memory as I play piano. But THIS. THIS from memory. My god.

  • looks like he has the mumps ..... epic cadenza though.

  • the best Cadenza ossia, though i usually preffer the earlier one...

  • better than argerich.

    terrific!!!!

  • fabulous Y Bronffman

  • I did Rach 3 with Yefin when he was unknown - in Battle Creek, MI. Probably the most exciting moment in my musical career!

  • at 3:39, such beauty.. :)

  • 1:34 to about 2:20 is breathtaking. Did Rachmaninoff write that or is it someone else's cadenza? Must confess not to be an expert myself so i have no idea. I just love the "improvisation" on the melody at the start.

  • @Isaacooper28 Yes, Rachmaninoff wrote the cadenza. He actually wrote two - the first being the one played here, though it is often referred to as the Ossia because it is played less often, and the second being the quicker, more Toccata-like version that Horowitz and Rachmaninoff used in their recordings.

  • What astounding power!

  • Great! awe inspiring! wunnerful! I enjoyed you when you played in Oklahoma City. Bravo and thanks.

  • magnificent

  • are you kidding me ?

  • I love the way Bronfman plays Rach. 2&3. True Russian soul "gargitza." He was friends with Gilels . Apparently lived near each others famalies and was a great admirer.

If you can find the Beethoven cello sonotas by Ricther/Rostropovich cherish them as they are gems.

I so much more enjoy his playing than Volodos (too much on technique not enough soul.)

  • fantastic, can anyone help me find a CD recording of this?

  • @dutchmusicfan Well, there's a DVD of this exact performance, but if you want a CD, there's one with Bronfman doing Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos 2 and 3 with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Philharmonia Orchestra. It's not the same conductor and orchestra, but they're still great recordings. :) They're here on YouTube if you're curious.

  • My (new) favorite, after Ashkenazy.. Yefim really becomes one with his instrument and the orchestra is also amazing (I love Gergiev)

  • he plays this cadenza so well...i can never decide which cadenza i prefer - perhaps this one, although some of the greatest pianists have ironically used the shorter one! not everyone can bring this ossia cadenza off, but bronfmann really nailed it!

  • hahah he's so cute at 6:24!! :p

  • A stunning performance, a performance to rival Argerich - and he chooses the 'ossia' (something Martha won't do)! Thanks for posting that, a treat.

  • Yeah, the ossia is better than the other score, he is amazing

  • @661cyclist I believe Argerich would now choose the ossia cadenza if she were to play this concerto ever again (not in a million years :D)

I think combining this cadenza w/Argerich's performance would make the best version out there.

  • I think I saw an extra hand , bravo

  • Listen to the sound he gets at 1:42 in the bass! Jeece!

  • what about 1:25-1:26 OMG bass was so powerful!!!!! This is insane!!! i just cant stop watching that cadenza. Best one ever! WOW

  • even better than ashkenazy.. holy crap :) the cadenza was extremely well played.. couldnt believe my ears.

  • fu****g Good!!!!! One of thes best rendition of this candenza I ever seen.

  • That piano sounds damn good in the cadenza.

  • the best Rach 3 cadenza ever. The other "big" cadenzas: best Prokofiev 2, Gutierrez; best Medtner 2, Demidenko.

  • I think Pletnev did a good one too

  • me encanta¡¡

sobretodo la parte de la cadenza

    lo hace muy muy bien

escuche este concierto por primera vez en la peli Shine ydesde entonces lo admiro más

    es impresionante

  • i am working while listening to this piece. i don't quite understand how i feel. its so beautiful. i can't remember the last time music moved me so much (oh, a few years ago with amelie soundtrack)... i could not seem to concentrate on my database, but at the same time it makes my senses complete... i'm going crazy...

  • @mylakas

    be carefull...David Helfgot :)

  • you are, just like thousands of other listeners, a victim of this pure rachmaninoff music. theres probably no human being not being touched by that kind of music.

  • Does anyone know where I can purchase the DVD of this performance? I'll buy it from Japan if I must!!

  • So is this version of cadenza the orginal version or the oasis version?

  • oasis version??? lololol

but yea, anyways, the ossia is the original, and then he came up with the toccata like shortened 2nd version.

This is the longer more powerful ossia.

  • There is a record of this concerto by brofman! does he play the cadenza the same way like here?

  • yes, exactly the same

  • Gives me goose bumps!

  • Great performance... awesome Cadenza!

He really needs to lay off those cheeseburgers though...

  • I love this Concerto!!!!!!!!!

  • That cadenza is just so evil sounding.

I have seen him play this at Lincoln Center, he is such a beast. Classical painist and linebacker all in one.

  • i'd give anything to see this performed somewhere... FRIG,

ashkenazy is my one true love for this concerto however

  • i always felt this is one of the best performances of this piece, im just so surprised such fat fingers can move so fast, amazing

  • He must :-D

    Rachmaninoff had big hands :-)

  • que maravilla de interpretación, que fuerza tan espectacular. is un genio, lo adoro.

  • I can't fathom how he can memorize that much without sheet music. I know its muscle memory...but damnnn. The cadenza is beautiful too.

  • it is actually "easier" to play without the printed score to read -to much physically happening at the keyboard itself to be bothered with the printed music to refer --- -after MUCH practice the score is memorized and "printed" in the mine of the performer----finger and muscle memory is not enough-you must be a true musician and know your music

  • Bravo!!!!!!.Bronfman is a true artist.

  • excelent!! delicius! passion!!

  • so beautiful... intensity and passion just flowing from his fingers...think about the neurons in his brain firing that fast to make such exquisite music

  • Nice! The bect pianist i've ever heard and seen.

  • his rach is so good for me the best interpretation

  • When does the final movement start (if in this video)?

  • Yefim Bronfman + Rachmaninoff = love

  • I just can't stop watching that cadenza, I just can't!!!!!

  • Definitely better than Lang Lang's Candenza....amazing

  • @mark4ever01 you cant even compare bronfman's cadenza to bang bangs, bronfman's is of an entire different league

  • @nmbanana bang bang's? whose that lol

  • @ClassicalNNewAgeYo Lang LAng=BangBang

Bronfmans cadenza is breathtaking while lang lang's its actually kind of annoying

  • @mark4ever01

This and David Helfgott's Candezas have touched me so far..

  • Bronfmann's cadenza is breathtaking. Such grandeur!

  • I know! I don't see why so many pianists opt for the second, lighter cadenza when this one is so powerful.

  • Comment removed

  • wow! unbelivable pianist.

  • Ahh I suppose YouTube's still processing the videos! Thanks so much! :)
