I find it hard to believe that people complained that SEGA didn't create a completely different gameplay method for one game when they made a mascot kart racer.
If you were having a race, but knew you'd win just by running, that'd wouldn't be very fun, both for you and the other racers, would it? I say it's just Sonic giving all his friends a chance, cause in a car, he has a chance of losing. :P
still if i was sonic i would just win the race in 2.5 seconds do a victory lap you would miss in the blink of an eye then party with the race winnings all without a car

It looks like a cool game (I like racing games a lot), but I have 2 questions:
1. Why isn't Tails flying in the Tornado or Tornado 2?
2. (Million-Dollar Question) Why in the holy mother of $#!% does Sonic need a car? He could run faster than the dang thing! I geuss if you wonder about that, I geuss you also need to wonder why he needs a car in Sonic Drift, but whatever, I still don't see the point.

Then don't think of it as a sonic game. Think of it as just an ordinary racing game with sonic and co. as characters. If this were a sonic game, it wouldn't have the "All-stars" in it.

Too many people are saying that Sega is ruining sonic because he's driving something since he already runs fast. So just because he can run that automaticallt means he is not allowed to drive a vehical, that's just mean. Basically Sonic is very layed back and likes to enjoy a good ride, which is why he drives a car sometimes and also took on Extreme Gear. He's basically trying to have fun in multiple ways so why is it a bad thing for a fast guy to just have fun his way rather than just your way?

No I'm not making fun of you, I'm just saying that people are continually bashing the new sonic games and saying that they're just bad in gameplay but really they're just getting all pissy about the voice cast. I don't like the voice cast as much as the original but I have no problem with the newer games as much. Also if you want to blame the programming look at Sonic and the Black Knight, the graphics on there look like Brawl's graphics, and that game had some great graphics.
The thing that annoys me is that this game is giving people what they want-sonic to be fast. Sonic Unleashed was the same way but because some people don't like platforming as much as holding down a button that pretty much runs for you, they call it a bad game. Now this game has speed but because people don't like the idea of Sonic in a car, then that makes this a bad game months before it even comes out?!
I know what you mean, sort of. Actually this is what I've been wanting for a year now, although I was hoping more for a kart racing game where it's all of sonic team's characters such as NIGHTS, Amigo, Billy Hatcher, etc., racing. But this is fine to me, I'm a sonic fan and one of the few who aren't complaining, rather anticipating it fully. Kind of like when word of Sonic Riders got out.
While all of my friends think that drift sucks more than E.T., I love it. Sure it was boring as hell, but it had some kind of charm to it. Riders was awesome on so many levels, so it's nice to see that Sega is still going to make games that feature Sonic & friends racing in vehicles. The additional characters are nothing more than bonuses to me, although I hope that NiGHTS and Ulala are in the game too.
Who knows? If we get lucky, it could have all sorts of characters in it. Here's hoping that the roster is over-the-top and full of our favorite Sonic and Sega characters!

Uh, that's kinda the point. Sonic can easily outrun the cars, which wouldn't make it much of a racing game.

Sonic was never about vehicles or weapons to polish his overall character.
That Wave Gear shit crossed the line, but THIS completely rapes that boundary.
Sonic is not about cars. Never was, never will be.
This should've been more like Sonic R.

Then don't think of it as a sonic game. Think of it as just an ordinary racing game with sonic and co. as characters. If this were a sonic game, it wouldn't have the "All-stars" in it.

Meh, just not my thing. Sonic Riders didn't do much for me either.
But think we can all agree that SEGA is starting to run out of good ideas at this point.
"Hey everybody! Let's just make a racing game that is almost completely identical to Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Kart!"

If Sonic is ever racing, its either on his feet or with Gear! Even though the Gear idea sucks itself, stop bending reality like this! Sonic can't ride gear then suddenly be into cars. And for God sakes... STOP MAKING SONIC DRIVE. ITS SO UNFITTING.

Too many people are saying that Sega is ruining sonic because he's driving something since he already runs fast. So just because he can run that automaticallt means he is not allowed to drive a vehical, that's just mean. Basically Sonic is very layed back and likes to enjoy a good ride, which is why he drives a car sometimes and also took on Extreme Gear. He's basically trying to have fun in multiple ways so why is it a bad thing for a fast guy to just have fun his way rather than just your way?

Well I guess it's because people kept on bitching about how sonic games suck because they're all the same thing and no upgrades unlike Mario. I see people get their way and complain about that, plus I'll betch that it's because in Japan people want more variety in their games rather than "teh teh teh teh teh (blood spurts out as it happens)" and honestly I had no problem with sonic heroes, it's the last game with the original voice cast, and don't get me started on how badly I anticipated riders

No I'm not making fun of you, I'm just saying that people are continually bashing the new sonic games and saying that they're just bad in gameplay but really they're just getting all pissy about the voice cast. I don't like the voice cast as much as the original but I have no problem with the newer games as much. Also if you want to blame the programming look at Sonic and the Black Knight, the graphics on there look like Brawl's graphics, and that game had some great graphics.

The thing that annoys me is that this game is giving people what they want-sonic to be fast. Sonic Unleashed was the same way but because some people don't like platforming as much as holding down a button that pretty much runs for you, they call it a bad game. Now this game has speed but because people don't like the idea of Sonic in a car, then that makes this a bad game months before it even comes out?!

I know what you mean, sort of. Actually this is what I've been wanting for a year now, although I was hoping more for a kart racing game where it's all of sonic team's characters such as NIGHTS, Amigo, Billy Hatcher, etc., racing. But this is fine to me, I'm a sonic fan and one of the few who aren't complaining, rather anticipating it fully. Kind of like when word of Sonic Riders got out.

While all of my friends think that drift sucks more than E.T., I love it. Sure it was boring as hell, but it had some kind of charm to it. Riders was awesome on so many levels, so it's nice to see that Sega is still going to make games that feature Sonic & friends racing in vehicles. The additional characters are nothing more than bonuses to me, although I hope that NiGHTS and Ulala are in the game too.
