This old suit uses water to circulate through the suit and then passes through an external heat exchanger that very simply uses icewater to absorb the heat from the suit.
Due to the skin tight nature of the suit and lack of roomfor extra bits we simply used quick release fittings so Adrian could be plugged and unplugged between takes.
Film making is mostly a lot of waiting around and the actual filming is very short duration so there is little need to have it running constantly
For other projects we have had the heat exchanger as part of the costume and having cool air being pumped inside a costume is also effective to cool and dry a suit that otherwise becomes wet and sweaty.
Clothing keeps you warm by trapping warm air within it near the body so releasing cool air next to the body forces the warm air out of the costume and evaporates sweat, reducing humidity within the suit.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! I don't know much about that but I think I can tell the difference between birds, bugs and space ships. Too freaking funny! I found some youtube videos on nutters that think zombies are real. Well it's people like that makes life a little more entertaining.
Can you believe the freak called "chemtrailorbs" !!
He keeps sending me vids of the sky and contrails and often birds and insects fly through frame out of focus. He swears they are alien spaceships or "orbs".
I wasn't sure if he's joking for a while but he blitzes lots of other folk so he seems to be serious. They are barking mad but are so bonkers they don't realise it!
Maybe I don't need an air compressor. You think I can just use a small air cylinder alone like an oxygen tank connected to the tubing? You can reach me direct joe_paramedic@yahoo.com. Sorry to bother you with so many questions.
@GregOrca That would be great. Conspiracy nutters? LOL That's too funny. Send me a link to your site. Just be aware I'm just your average Joe who enjoys Halloween or any event involving creative costumes. So my knowledge is not so great as yours oh Yoda. LOL
Ok thanks, I'm looking into small air compressors or cylinders that I can carry inside the suit concealed. I don't work in the movie business, just a Halloween costume and other events. I live in Miami and the heat can be unbearable here.
Thank you for your response. I have seen many videos on the claws and the digitigrade stilts. They do seem simple to make and I have a few ideas for them. As for the counter current suit, your video was all I could research on it. To try and get an idea, I also researched the mechanics of a refrigerator. Can you give me more details as to what I need to make one? Can you suggest any sites I can research? Appreciate your assistance in this. JC
Even with a refrigerator system , a suit still has the problem that the air inside traps body heat. the most effective system is to replace the water pipes with perforated air pipes and blow compressed air from a small bottle or compressor through the system. That removes the layer of hot trapped air and pushes the heat and sweat humidity out of the suit in a way not possible for a fridge suit.
Try using small pipes and an air cylinder , or just use a silent compressor between takes
I always really admired the way this character was done, but running into one of the designers on Youtube presenting this kind of behind-the-scenes detail is beyond awesome. Thank you SO MUCH for just posting this; it's absolutely genius work and very inspiring.
It's not meant to be a werewolf, it's an alien rat, but most people don't understand what "digitigrade legs" means so saying "werewolf legs" is easier to understand for most folks
Hey Greg, Corrie here. after filming when we were getting rid of everything i ended up with that hand, its one of the most lovely pieces of work i have ever seen!
awwww.... poor guy! He had to wear all that hot gear and wear those cool contacts and those ouchie stilts aaaalllll week! `outy face~ working an awesome job that only a small handful of us artists get to have in our wildest dreams not to mention getting payed very very well for it! I'm sorry bub, but I just don't feel an ounce of remorse for you. I'd be glad to take that job off your hands ANY TIME!
please please PLEASE can you give us some hints?i'm killing my eyes looking at LOTS of videos on mechanical hands and prothesis and i found something useful about the leg extenction construction, but notthing in the intenet is better than this!! how the hell do they work?have those wires?i've tryed to understand the structure by stopping several times the video as you suggested, but it's impossible!! i'd love you for a short video with the structure representation or something, thanks a bilion!
Hi. This vid is the only record I have of them. If you view it in highest resolution you can see most of the details.
It required a very accurate milling machine with digital readout to be able to get all the internal components to align accurately and assemble easily. It uses all of the shelf dubro hobby parts and K&S brass strip other than the aluminium rectangular tube.
I'm sorry if it had been answered already, but what did you use for the cooling on the refrigeration of the suit?

I would really like to know how you made the counter-current refrigerator suit.
casas3369 1 month ago
@casas3369
It's pretty simple with flexible hose full of water that runs in opposite direction side by side.
It's simply sewn onto the stretch net material.
That way the temperature is averaged no matter where on the suit it is. Not hot on one side cold on the other like most attempts to do this.

"thats no werewolf that just lookes like a jacked up alien"
Perhaps that's why the info box specifically says "extensions for Farscape alien character "Namtar" for episode "DNA mad Scientist". ?
