I think the album version is years better. This is good as a change of pace, but the recorded version has so much more energy. It comes across more desperate in my opinion.
i've been a cure fan for well over 20 years and after hearing boris play with the precission a metronome on this song i'm starting to believe the boris VS jason hype.
Wasn't the original plan for "Wish" a double album consisting of one side of upbeat pop songs and the other dark and atmospheric? It's possible these early versions of Cut and Wendy Time were written with this idea in mind and then later re-arranged them after they scrapped the idea. I wish (no pun intended) the double album would have surfaced since the Lost Wishes demo tapes are pure magic as well.
This is a nice soft journey to Cut, but I think there's no way to match the intensity and utter brilliance of the studio version with all its mayhem and Boris Williams mastery...
this is AWESOME! i don't know why people put Jason down - i always thought his drumming added a harder edge to the Cure's music which was appropriate. Boris' drumming was like a programmed drum-machine and too predictable. very boring. but in any case, whatever. The Cure still are the ****! "Away" is a thousand times better than "Cut"
Like Dr. Dre says in the Dr. Pepper commercial "slow is better". When I heard the version of "Cut" on Wish I wondered what happened to the version on Play Out (seen here). If you add this version of Cut, the version of Wendy Time in Play Out, The Big Hand, and This Twilight Garden to Wish, and drop Doing the Unstuck you'd have had a Cure Classic. Oh well...
Na moje ucho to tutaj nie ma się do czego przywalić... Fantastyczna wersja. Takie rzeczy to tylko The Cure. Ciekawe, czy jeszcze coś mocnego wypuszczą, bo lata lecą....
@brokenwall20 I totally agree, I really like more this earlier version, as a lot of cure songs. That one was recorded for the "Play Out" VHS, at the T&C 2 show 1991
@brokenwall20 me too, i remember loving this on the play ouy video and searching for it everywhere to no avail...when i got 'wish' and heard cut i was real dissapointed...nice to hear it like this again
needs more than boris, needs david allan back producing the tracks to give it a a lush haunting sound... throw out that wah wah guitar crap. listen to down under, from 4:13s b-sides, imagine what could still be with the cure.
Yeah, this one is much more groovy. Unfortunatly hard to find a real good file, but this one. I got this Play Out vid where that track is cut few times with interviews, so I don't know where this one really comes from !
Maybe this version wasnt yet influenced by My bloody Valentine/ Ride
I prefere Away to Cut.

The most important thing for this song, a great drummer like Boris Williams, this version is incredible, rhythm and power you can feel it !!

I'm surprised at the difference in sound and performance between Boris and Jason.
Boris is far superior!!! man what a real drummer he is.
richardfitt 2 years ago 2
@richardfitt everyone keeps on about how jason is if he was that bad Robert the god himself would not have kept him for over 10 years...
gypsyboi76 1 year ago
@gypsyboi76 did u know Robert chose another drummer for The Cure but the WMS producer recommended Jason and Robert changed his mind?
I still think that The Cure is too big for Jason.

this song is called "CUT", not "AWAY". That is from "Wish".

You should read the info of this video:
once upon a time when "Cut" of Wish is "Away", in 1991, the Cure perform the song at T&C 2 Club, London.
