This never happens to true Minneasotan truck drivers. Well it does but its very rare. I always feel spooked out when driving on the freeway when i see a big rig in the oncomeing lane woundering if one of its tires will blow out causing it to crahs into me or driving along side one... Driving in general is dangerous!

@wvargas41 I am wondering if diesel fumes are as combustible as gas fumes and if its tanks were maybe 1/2 or near empty? I witnessed an 18 wheel explode in Atlanta years ago after colliding with a divider wall. I know as a liquid it is less combustible than gasoline.

@RandyDarkshade2 ive been a diesel meckanic for nearly 20 years working with rd trains so im based inside of a workshop and dont see many accidents . but i can say is that diesel does ignite @ the right temputure... just like cooking oil in kitchen fires.... and the more water you put onto it the worse it gets . the only thing i can think of in this accident is that the fuel tank burst and diesel poured onto exhaust and hot turbo .

the fuel tank exploded because the whole front axle got ripped off from the jackknife...this caused the fuel tank to scrap on the pavement and cause sparks...the vehicle didn't ignite the fuel...the heat and friction of the pavement did...

Yes, diesel can go up like that. I saw 200' flames from a PRIME INC truck that sideswiped the Jersey barrier in a construction zone on I-70 in Indianapolis a couple of years ago. And no, it wasn't his load that burned (he was hauling beer).
