Republican Governors and Legislatures are evil because they're cutting education... Oh wait, no they aren't cutting educaation, the ARRA is. Thank Obama's stimulus for the education cuts. Also thank the teachers unions because their greedy leaders take all of the money for themselves.
Gov. Christie received millions in campaign contributions from the upper economic class. He also vetoed the millionaires tax bill that would have maintained the tax rate on millionaires from the previous administration. I don't wonder if there is a connection between the two.
Gov. Christie serves the upper class and attacks middle class workers with divide and conquer tactics. He is a class warfare warrior for the rich.
Why is Gov. involved in Education anyway? The DOE is unconstitutional!!! I hate the idea that I'm a sacrificial victim to what people term "Society." I have no ill feelings towards others, but society is an arbitrary creation- there are only individuals. I don't want to be "collected" and be a part of something I have no desire to be a part of i.e. public edu. Senator Hatch of Utah doesn't think you should take "school vouchers" outside of the public sector- why the hell not!!??
Christi is just what America needs. A man who doesn't sugar coat what he says. He says what he means and means what he says. He makes sense and that his why the Liberal Left Wing Loons don't like him.
If it's not about teaching, then is it about the people? Inocent kids being bullied to death? Why is it about money? Where are they going? In to your pocket!
@Cardiovasdcular101 I didn't hear Christi threaten anyone. Why do you liberals always interject untruths and or spin everything that Christi says? Do you hate the factual truth?
Honestly, how many dipshits from your highschool went off to become teachers? My guess is about half of them. They wanna act like theyre the "shit" because they teach children then they should raise our pathetic test scores. Let's face it, half of teachers (especiallly at higher levels) could give too shits about kids, they're there for the job security, the benefits, the atmosphere, and the fact its all they've ever known. Good teachers are vital but thats just it, GOOD teachers, the rest: Cut
If the teachers and the students are the ones suffering, maybe they should take that up with the corrupt unions. God bless Gov. Christie. I wish he were the governor of my state.
I'm sorry, but your actions aren't hurting the unions; the only ones feeling the pain are your state's students and we dislike you for it. We are not being poisoned by our teachers or anyone else. We have enough sense to formulate our own opinions. As a senior of Science Park High School, a school you visited, and the child of a teacher, I can tell you that there is a lack of management in our system if the first pay check my mom received was VOID.
@HanaDaKitsune You ignorant fool. You think if Chris Christie handed the reigns of your education to the teachers union your education would improve? NO. Don't you read what he's doing? Federal money has been pulled out of the system and, yes, the teachers are gonna take a hit as well. Since when have they become untouchable? They're so easily replaced its comical and yet the unions and the rhetoric makes them seem like theyre gods gift to earth.
THE TEACHERS ARE OVER PAID AND DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THE KIDS. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THERE PAYCHECKS !!!!!
GOING TO LAY OFF THE COPS BECAUSE TEACHERS ARE OVER PAID FUCK THAT . WE NEED THE COPS WE DON'T NEED OVER PAID TEACHERS ROBBING US. NEW JERSEY SCHOOLS ARE THE LOWEST IN THE COUNTRY 1 out or 10 NJ is 3 or 4 rating in education .
@Rickey85 You're so painfully misinformed that it's killing me. My mother, a school teacher, grosses $53k annually. She loses over fifty percent of her pay check in taxes and pension fees. Because of the fact that she grosses so much, I can't qualify for even reduced-price lunch. Because of the fact that my mother IS a single parent, she can't afford to pay four dollars every day for my sister and I so we can eat crappy lunch.
I agree, police shouldn't be laid off. But neither should teachers.
He just dose not want union to give money to the Democrats for campain funds so the Repubicans can win the campains. But Chris Christie get is money to run for office from the Koch Brother that killing the would with pullution and do not want to be regerlation to get richer and they got trouble for it. The Repubicans do not care how the get the campain money . Os if you do not care if they want to pullute the world more power to you because thet want to be the richist after they kill us all.

@decimated550 Where did you get that analogy, Poland? Why not forget both those Polish assistants and farm the job out to the Chinese.
For the sake of you point though, you've skewed it one way towards the young always being a better assistant. Not true and not all about the bottom line here either.
@sonofatiger Well obviously if he kept reducing pay to nothing perhaps. However, that is completely preposterous and is simply a strawman argument. And his one salary doesn't even come close to the thousands of teachers salaries that exist. Even if he cut his entire annual salary to 0 he wouldn't even put a tenth of a percent of a dent into the budget. However, I do agree that public employees need to have pay decreases or at least benefit decreases. Compared to private workers it is insane
"Rich" people create jobs. Tax them more and they'll leave and take the taxes that they do pay with them. And what NJ will do is raise taxes more on the middle class. Pick your poison people. The other option is socialism and if you want to see how that's working, take a look at bankrupt Greece, Spain and Italy, all teetering on disaster.
everything he was talking about could be said for all Unions. Idk about all of you guys but i would kill to be in a union and any politician rep. or dem. that sounds like he/she wants to break apart unions is not getting a vote from me. I mean I like the idea of workers sticking together if we didnt have unions we'd be overworked underpaid and mistreated even more than we are now. He's a pretty smart guy too i think he's picking a bad battle.
@TheFequalsMA tell me that when you have acquired a hard earned skill, either through schooling or trade and the government tells you minimum wage is only $7.80.
@litcguitarist What do you do for a living? Why do you believe that unions deserve to steal from the taypayers so that they get LIFETIME health benefits? Maybe you would not be so bitter if you had a real skill and degree that can be put to some practical use.
@litcguitarist - Union types are the people that drive up property taxes and make New Jerseyeans flee to Pennsylvania and North Carolina. They are the chain smoking old hags in supermarkets who get paid $28 an hour 44 hours a week to do a little less work every year. They are the scumbag cops who get a "letter" from buddy the union doctor so they can get a nice disability check every year. Unions are bad for society, and you want to be in a union.
@decimated550 o please get over your eyes, people work the system everyday it's not just a union issue. So you're trying to tell us every police officer is just scamming the government? Or maybe every elderly person who's been loyal to a company for years and has a family should be laid off when their pay increase are no longer feasible, maybe they should be paid only $7.50 an hour for life. Unions are bad for business, and the economy and the wealthy 1%, but for the hard working man and
@decimated550 woman a union means sticking together with your co-worker to say the people that make this country run deserve to pursue happiness like the rest of us. Unions are good for people, and chances are you are not in one and are jealous, or are younger and have not yet entered the real world.
@litcguitarist - Wrong on both: I'm 33 and i work for a nonunion hazmat company. We busted a union there a few years ago. It was allowing real slackers to stay in and never get fired. At my part time job, there is a guy who grosses like a thousand a week pushing carts in from the parking lot. You might think "he earned it" - who says we get a raise every year...people get older and less productive, but they get raises anyway? Fire them and put in someone younger, cheaper, harder working.
@decimated550 Okay you can say that on the internet, but do me a favor take that line "People get older and less productive, but they get raises anyway; fire them and put in someone younger, cheaper, harder working." write it out and put it somewhere safe and in 20 years when you're 53 tell me you wont feel like eating those words.
@litcguitarist - I know, and it'll suck for me. But that's life in its inescapable brutal reality.
Why do you think "last in first out" in public school systems is such a big problem? The fat cat cozy-to-the-union-boss types get paid big time money which the taxpaying public cannot afford anymore. Young eager hungry types out of school need to get a start on life but all the expensive oldsters block those slots up for decades. No one should be doing a job if someone else can do it better.
The CEO of the NJEA gets paid over $500,000 a year in salary. His benefits package is almost $200,000 a year. His salary is ON PAR WITH THE FAT CEOs THE UNIONS COMPLAIN ABOUT.
the real plan by republicans is to badmouth the unions, break them, & cut contributions to the Democrat party. then if all goes according to plan, we'll have more republicans, less Democrats in the way.
unions are good. in high school I worked private nonunion jobs in the summer and even when I was under 18 private companions forced minors to work more hours than they legally can. In college I got smart and I started working union jobs, you get more money, easier work, and much more laid back. If all jobs were union jobs there would be much less injuries. the only people who don't like unions are people like some of my old bosses who literally squeeze pennies off of your check to save money.
@TheFequalsMA You said it....he's CHALLENGING the unions but NOTHING has happened. You see...he's a blowhard. Wake up man...his popularity is dropping like crazy. 52% of people in NJ thinks he sucks as a governor.... Reality is...he's worthless. Talks a bunch of bs by spinning the truth to his favor. If your rich, Christie is for you, if your mid/lower class make sure you open your wallets because he's gonna rape you. You want him for president? God bless America if he eve wins.
@TheFequalsMA Are you saying that Governors that have raped the pension system of BILLIONS of dollars and LOST the money are not the ones responsible for this mess? TEACHERS Have paid their dues and continue to do so....the STATE has NOT. READ THE FACTS MAN.....SERIOUSLY.....
@justteach1 "Dues"? How do union dues equal the costs of FREE healthcare? Sweetie, better learn some math & learn the facts rather than shooting off your mouth. Health benefits for a family is $22,000 PER YEAR! Do your "dues" offset any portion of that? I know that they do not. Pensions? You pay barely 5.5% of your salary towards pensions...The rest WE have to pay
I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. Christie's a one-term governor for sure and you can't fool all the people all the time. Making 90% of the population tighten their belts so the pigs at the top can enjoy a massive windfall might look attractive to a programmed idiot like you, but as a long-term plan it won't fly in a state with an educated population.
@EconCat88 Last month it was birth certificates, this month it's teachers. Next month FOX will have you and a million other pea brains barking mad about something else. You're like a kennel full of idiotic dogs.
@EconCat88 Like I said, a kennel full of idiotic dogs. You don't know a damn thing about public education, state finances, the NJEA or any other "TOPIC." You're just some lazy, thick-headed couch potato taking orders from the FOX idiot box in the living room of your trailer. You must have a bad taste in your mouth and a sore back from licking corporate ass and carrying water for Christie's Wall Street parasites. Do yourself a personal favor and find another obsession.
@coleyman1 Town hall meetings packed with people to support Christie. Shame he doesn't come to a town hall that is not staged so he can show it on youtube....you are all suckers if you believe all his rhetoric.
@justteach1 Sucker?? Hell, I just asked the question what Fox News had to do with the town hall meetings? Why would that make me a "sucker"? If you don't know the answer to the question, why would you call someone a name? You must be effected by this man, or you wouldn't be so upset about this little clip!
@coleyman1 I'm tired of hearing how great Chris Christie is. He's done nothing but separate the middle class from the wealthy.. All he wants is to continue giving to his rich buddies and take from you and me. I lost 8,000 last year because of him. How about you? Oh, that's right he's not raising taxes on the middle class.
@justteach1 I don't live in his state and I know very little about his politics. I just read where Fox News had some influence on town hall meetings and wanted to know what roll they played. I just hear about Christie on the news but live in a state that has it's own problems. Being retired, I realize that I was lucky enough to work in a different economic time. Sorry for your troubles, but I think you are like a lot of others who are victims of other peoples greed and I don't mean Christie!
@coleyman1 Look, I apologize for my post on calling you a sucker but I can tell you this Christie's rating is tanking. All be cause he's a magician and his foundation is collapsing. Realistically people are realizing that what he's doing is not helping the middle class but the wealthy. In the US will see the truth about Christie. He's about making $ for his buddies not saving you and I any money.
@justteach1 I've watched and participated in local, state and national politics for most of my adult life and what you say has never been any different. It is money that gets these guys elected and when they get in they have to return the favors so they can keep their jobs. It is not very often that someone like Ron Paul comes along. Like him or hate him he is honest and could care less what finanical status you hold, he never changes his agenda. Enjoy your summer and good luck ahead. Coleyman.
@stealthgerm how? when the united states spends more money than any other country on education, yet what do we have? how is trying to change the system which is proven to hemorrhage money, closing minds and ears? sounds like you are the one with your head in the sand.
@EconCat88 a return to the 1800's with child labor, descrimination,un safe work places,7 day workweek, life like living in china is ever so free of union excess.
Respond to this video... imagine a day without concerns for the average worker, and only the good of the corporation will matter profit at any cost.profit is a companies the only concern.all hail exon
Poor American kids starve? Kids will no longer afford to buy a loft of bread due to inflation. Another depression is coming soon; OBAMA printing of money will collapse the dollar trying to BAILOUT UNION salaries that has bankrupt STATE budgets. NEXT the UNION pension tsunami will follow, & more money will be printed to BAIL the UNIONs out again. The recession of 2008 will pale in comparison to this UNION Pension tsunami, an ECONOMIC 911 that will be far worst than the GREAT DEPRESSION!
Let's do some math..If 6,500 teachers have retired in 2010, and they all get FREE healthcare at $22,000 per family coverage PER year and they live at least 10 years after retirement, that's $1,430,000,000! And that's only for that crowd that retired! There are approx 88,000 public school teachers in NJ...do the similar math to understand how much NJ taxpayers are on the hook for...
Residents have not been helped by the fact that property values in the state decreased 4.5 percent between 2006 and 2009, which is the 8th greatest decrease in the country over that time period. Hmmmm who was governor then? We'll see what the big guy does. Oh wait...if you make a million you already had your taxes go down....congrats.
@Jorgy he was pointing out the irony of the union dues from the line from the song, "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave." It doesn't matter what the song was originally about - the analogy still applies very well.
@vintageviolencex with all due respect, because you sound like a reasonable kid, but the economy fell due to liberal housing policies set forth in our government long before Bush was in office. Those policies stated that ALL Americans had a RIGHT to own a home and a severely low interest rate environment, were the prime contributors. This created an artificially high demand for homes, thus creating higher prices/values that eventually burst.
@dyennior yeah, the unions are the real victims. Especially when they employ tactics like they're doing in Madison, WI where they're recommending a mass boycott of any local business that didn't hang a sign in their storefront window that said "I support workers' rights." You need to get your head out of the sand - the unions are a bunch of thugs and their tactics are borderline criminal.
@Hardwyre teachers in NJ have two choices: 1) join the union, which is highly "recommended" by the unions (really, what a surprise) and pay about $750 a year in dues which the union actually direct deposits from their paycheck to their coffers, or 2) DON'T join the union, but you still have to pay 85% of the dues anyway. What a great system that is!? It's like I own a store and if you don't buy something from me, I charge you anyway for walking in my door.
I think I was drinking when I made that comment. I do believe that I meant to write "I LOVE how the union FORCES people to pay if they don't want to join the union."
@Hardwyre haha, no I hear you. I realized what you meant. The unions to me are a cancer and I come from a big family of public schoolteachers who I tell constantly that their talents would actually be recognized if they were able to succeed on merit and allow for the bad teachers to find employment elsewhere.
The teachers have had a respected system of welfare on the backs of NJ taxe payers - life time benefits (even after retiring- never paying into them), Pension ( a check of an average of $4,000 per month), which they do not pay into. This is not a 401 or a savings plan - this is a property tax funded pgrm. NJ HIGHEST taxes IN NATION! $25,000 p/ pupil Asbury park students (& STILL FAIL) - middle class paying most taxes..p/pupill average is $8k
@dawnroccadaboat You know you really have no idea what you are talking about. The teachers are the ONLY ones who have paid into the pension system. The state has not so get your facts straight before you post....you see? We are NOT the reason this state is in the RED. It's politicians like Christie who are the reason. Honestly, What has he done to help the state? Put out a lot of BS that you are all eating up but NOTHING else. Unless Im wrong...prove it.
@justteach1 You DUMB shit! Teachers & other public union employees only paid 5.5% into it...OMG can you really be so stupid? One onlyt has to look at the school budget or municipal budget to see that. The teachers also get FREE lifetime health benefits..
@justteach1 Okee Dokee...How about some credential comparisons? Ooops...I will add on your side of the ledger those brilliant "classes" that you are taking in Delaware...LMAO
All the politician's say what we the people want to hear but none of them do what they promise the people. I just read a good book check it out called "how did things get so crazy in america" find it on amazon.com it puts alot of what's going on in america in prospective
Public Unions are corrupt and in-moral they don't care about the students as much as themselves. I have nothing against private unions, but think why do a job if you think the pay is insufficient. We would all like to get paid more for a job we do, but teachers won't teach if they don't get paid enough. Then people leave the market, people need to learn basic economics.
Last week, the federal government reported that the U.S. trade deficit grew by 33 percent in 2010 to nearly half a trillion dollars. Most of the gap resulted from an imbalance in trade with China, which shipped $365 billion in goods to America but only bought $92 billion in U.S. goods. The resulting U.S. deficit of $273 billion in bilateral trade. This is not fair trade is it. China has a very lax-ed environmental rules and poverty wages. In other words doesn’t compete fairly, This must stop
@UCSDEngineerDoctor You really need to lay off the booze. It doesn't look well for you to be carrying water for the rich and for corporate interests and pretending to be some sort of big shot entrepreneur when you come on this site and act like a drunken teenage punk. The only thing worse than an asshole like you is a drunken asshole. Get help, asshole.
@Vox91 Carry water for the RICH? Why dont you ask OBAMA, & his CEO cronies at GE . Speaking of drunk, check out the drunk teachers wasting our TAX dollars on YOUTUBE. Stick to the facts dumbass.
@UCSDEngineerDoctor You sure as hell DO carry water for the rich. For God's sake, at least have the courage of your convictions. Don't be a cunt. Your Republican vote helps make it possible for Exxon, Fed Ex and GE, etc, etc to operate virtually tax free and receive subsidies & puts the burden onto the backs of working Americans. From the tone of your ignorant and infantile tax rants, you'd rather watch poor American kids starve than force a billionaire to pay a penny in taxes.
@Vox91 Billionaire like Warren Buffet? Who invest billions in this economy? Goggle, Amazon, Apple Steve Jobs? Making more millionaires than the government will ever have. But GE did not pay any taxes this year, & you can thank OBAMA for that. And I am not a republican dumbass. OBAMA bailed out GM, GE, & wealthy BANKs(AIG, GOLDMAN SACHS) because the UNIONs all bankrupt them.
@Vox91 I do not carry water for the RICH you dumbass. I carry water for you sick fat lazy ass. TAXing hard working americans so that your UNION piece of sh*it cubicle hamster bureaucratic paper pusher can tax us into slavery.
From the looks of these posts, the Chris Christie-GOP strategy is working like a charm: Divide the middle class into perceived "haves" and "have nots" and get them fighting each other over the crumbs from the big business banquet. While they're busy fighting each other Christie increases the tax burden on both groups and increases the political power of multinational corporations and predator banks and reduces their taxes.
@Vox91 Wake up!. What world and country are you living in? Your country is broke, and in SEVERE debt. Your homes and real estate are worthless...lol, your mortgages and credit card debt is out of control. You have huge unemployment! You are in a huge economic recession. Your public sector workers need to be be brought back into line with the MAJORITY of the rest of the private citizens and workers. You have been riding on the majority of private citizens tax money for WAY TO LONG.
@tycospg You're a complete fucking idiot and watching FOX News isn't making you any smarter. Since 1980, the richest 1% have increased their share of the national income from 8% to 23% while having their taxes cut by more than 50%. Wages for the MAJORITY of private citizens have fallen or stagnated during that time and their taxes have increased to make up the short fall. The only people "riding on tax payer money" are the predator banks and corporations that Christie represents, idiot
@Vox91 Learn to read. I never excused the richest of America or the big banks, which are theives and we all know this. America's problem isn't 1 thing, it is a combination of wrongs. Unions and their ever increasing guaranteed pay with exuberant paid for benefits are a huge cost to America, AS WELL AS the Wall Street Banks and thier ponzi schemes, and the richest of America getting away scott free and not paying their fair share.
@tycospg You need an alternative source of information besides FOX News. Unionized public employees make an average of 5-10% less in salary than private sector workers. Much of what you hear about unions is simply corporate propaganda. FOX News and the GOP won't be satisfied until 90% of the population are reduced to minimum wage jobs. Once upon a time in this country most workers received paid benefits. The fact that private sector workers have failed to organize to protect their.....
@tycospg interests in the 30-year GOP war against the American middle class is hardly the fault of public sector workers. The reason that states are going broke isn't because public workers receive health coverage and pensions, It's because corporations and the richest 5% pay only a fraction of the taxes they did before Reagan and the GOP declared war on middle America. Your argument that only the middle and working class should sacrifice to pay for tax cuts for the rich is pure bullshit.
CHRISTIE is a fat cat with a problem the children of cops in this state are scum that terrorise elderly people and attack veterans with strokes and the police cover up for them
These posts reflect Christies earlier comments. "The road to fixing our debt problem is lined with resistance from those benefiting from the status quo."
Unions are holding our kids hostage for personal gain. He is right there are bad people in every sector and there is a minority of them. But the things that the teachers Unions like to play the victim card like, "YOU HATE CHILDREN AND EDUCATION" We don't hate that at all just the corruption
@Crisgo3d Seriously you need to look at the waste in NJ and the corruption in Politics. What has Christie done for you lately unless you make 1 mil +? He gave 1 casino money to stay open.....hmmm Why only 1? Who's he rubbing elbows with? What is the benefit for me? You know. He really is good and reflecting responsibility but in the end you and I are paying the bill.
@justteach1 I do however agree the issue of special interest is sickening. You know he is keeping that casino open because they gave him so much money to be elected. The same way Obama gives certain corporations a pass. They are all hypocrites. We spend so much on education and the system is still failing and not effective. Changes need to be made to the system. It needs to start from the top though. Not on the backs of honest hard working teachers who do well. The ones who suck, sorry, BYE!!
@Crisgo3d I have no problem with people who make a million. I salute them. I have a problem with the governor cutting taxes for people making 250+ when we are broke. Meanwhile he raises taxes for the middle class. He has raised taxes by cutting the out the tax rebate (mostly received by middle class) and freezing salaries on public employees (basically taxing them). I understand that the state is broke but taking money out of the hands of the majority freezes the economy.
If properly managed, like any insurance program, people currently paying in would front most of the cost during their career that covers retirees. It's not like a large chunk of a every teacher's salary doesn't get paid into the healthcare costs... it's not a free ride. If you think a state shouldn't subsidize some of that cost then you probably also don't think public education should exist.... or any public services for that matter... police, firemen... shall I go on?
Republicans are talking about teachers riding the gravy train...... That's just about as absurd as saying the world is flat. Do you people talk about all of the tax cuts that were given to the top 1 percent of income earners? But no, you'd rather talk about the fact that you squandered our wealth and now you are taking it from the little guy to pay for the mess you created. This fat assholes words are toxic and shouldn't be listened to.
@MrNocomment13 1) Those tax cuts were for EVERY AMERICAN, not just the top 1%. Speaking of the top 1%, they already pay over 50% of the nation's taxes, while 48% of the population pays NOTHING. You want to talk about fair and equal, you might want to reframe your argument about who's paying their "equal share." 2) Teachers make very good salaries and have benefits that most people would love to have - and they pay NOTHING for them, so let's cut the BS.
Public employees built America, educated America, and created America. --- Christie has no respect or CONCEPT of the what it takes to be a teacher... Most school boards don't care about kids... they care about looking good. They are usually the ones staring down teachers, not the other way around. Unions are there to protect their members, and I'm sure every NJ teacher is proud to have helped fund the truthful ads against their governer. Christie's idealogy is broken and needs help.
Public employee unions are as intent on the destruction of America as the islamonazis. It's just that they are doing it for different reasons but they want the same result!
It's Rovian class warfare. Charter schools are the newest Private-Public-Partnership in NJ. Christie subscribes to Rovian/Koch strategy as do most of the (R) governors screaming about broken budgets. Christie could milk the Turnpike Authority for billions...Florio & Whitman did. Then they raided the public employee pension systems. The plutocrats don't want to pay taxes. Why should they? They subscribe to Ayn Rand as did Allan Greenspan. He's the one who made this mess.
@page371069 You are an ass.Are we hitting your entitlement nerve? Are you worried that your gravy train is coming to an end? You'll really scream when your welfare goes away and you will have to pay your student loans
Let's do some math..If 6,500 teachers have retired in 2010, and they all get FREE healthcare at $22,000 per family coverage PER year and they live at least 10 years after retirement, that's $1,430,000,000! Let's face it, half of teachers (especiallly at higher levels) could give too shits about kids, they're there for the job security, the benefits, the atmosphere, and the fact its all they've ever known. Good teachers are vital but thats just it, GOOD teachers, the rest: Cut

Dear Gov Christie,
I'm sorry, but your actions aren't hurting the unions; the only ones feeling the pain are your state's students and we dislike you for it. We are not being poisoned by our teachers or anyone else. We have enough sense to formulate our own opinions. As a senior of Science Park High School, a school you visited, and the child of a teacher, I can tell you that there is a lack of management in our system if the first pay check my mom received was VOID.
Love,
A concerned student

@HanaDaKitsune You ignorant fool. You think if Chris Christie handed the reigns of your education to the teachers union your education would improve? NO. Don't you read what he's doing? Federal money has been pulled out of the system and, yes, the teachers are gonna take a hit as well. Since when have they become untouchable? They're so easily replaced its comical and yet the unions and the rhetoric makes them seem like theyre gods gift to earth.

But neither should teachers.

sonofatiger 4 months ago
@sonofatiger Well obviously if he kept reducing pay to nothing perhaps. However, that is completely preposterous and is simply a strawman argument. And his one salary doesn't even come close to the thousands of teachers salaries that exist. Even if he cut his entire annual salary to 0 he wouldn't even put a tenth of a percent of a dent into the budget. However, I do agree that public employees need to have pay decreases or at least benefit decreases. Compared to private workers it is insane

TheFequalsMA 6 months ago
@litcguitarist - Union types are the people that drive up property taxes and make New Jerseyeans flee to Pennsylvania and North Carolina. They are the chain smoking old hags in supermarkets who get paid $28 an hour 44 hours a week to do a little less work every year. They are the scumbag cops who get a "letter" from buddy the union doctor so they can get a nice disability check every year. Unions are bad for society, and you want to be in a union.

litcguitarist 6 months ago
@decimated550 woman a union means sticking together with your co-worker to say the people that make this country run deserve to pursue happiness like the rest of us. Unions are good for people, and chances are you are not in one and are jealous, or are younger and have not yet entered the real world.
litcguitarist 6 months ago
@litcguitarist - Wrong on both: I'm 33 and i work for a nonunion hazmat company. We busted a union there a few years ago. It was allowing real slackers to stay in and never get fired. At my part time job, there is a guy who grosses like a thousand a week pushing carts in from the parking lot. You might think "he earned it" - who says we get a raise every year...people get older and less productive, but they get raises anyway? Fire them and put in someone younger, cheaper, harder working.
decimated550 6 months ago
@decimated550 Okay you can say that on the internet, but do me a favor take that line "People get older and less productive, but they get raises anyway; fire them and put in someone younger, cheaper, harder working." write it out and put it somewhere safe and in 20 years when you're 53 tell me you wont feel like eating those words.
litcguitarist 6 months ago
@litcguitarist - I know, and it'll suck for me. But that's life in its inescapable brutal reality.
Why do you think "last in first out" in public school systems is such a big problem? The fat cat cozy-to-the-union-boss types get paid big time money which the taxpaying public cannot afford anymore. Young eager hungry types out of school need to get a start on life but all the expensive oldsters block those slots up for decades. No one should be doing a job if someone else can do it better.

@Jorgy he was pointing out the irony of the union dues from the line from the song, "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave." It doesn't matter what the song was originally about - the analogy still applies very well.
mbukow01 10 months ago
@vintageviolencex with all due respect, because you sound like a reasonable kid, but the economy fell due to liberal housing policies set forth in our government long before Bush was in office. Those policies stated that ALL Americans had a RIGHT to own a home and a severely low interest rate environment, were the prime contributors. This created an artificially high demand for homes, thus creating higher prices/values that eventually burst.
mbukow01 10 months ago
@dyennior yeah, the unions are the real victims. Especially when they employ tactics like they're doing in Madison, WI where they're recommending a mass boycott of any local business that didn't hang a sign in their storefront window that said "I support workers' rights." You need to get your head out of the sand - the unions are a bunch of thugs and their tactics are borderline criminal.
mbukow01 10 months ago
@Hardwyre teachers in NJ have two choices: 1) join the union, which is highly "recommended" by the unions (really, what a surprise) and pay about $750 a year in dues which the union actually direct deposits from their paycheck to their coffers, or 2) DON'T join the union, but you still have to pay 85% of the dues anyway. What a great system that is!? It's like I own a store and if you don't buy something from me, I charge you anyway for walking in my door.
mbukow01 10 months ago
@mbukow01
I think I was drinking when I made that comment. I do believe that I meant to write "I LOVE how the union FORCES people to pay if they don't want to join the union."
Your store metaphor is beautiful.
Hardwyre 9 months ago
@Hardwyre haha, no I hear you. I realized what you meant. The unions to me are a cancer and I come from a big family of public schoolteachers who I tell constantly that their talents would actually be recognized if they were able to succeed on merit and allow for the bad teachers to find employment elsewhere.
mbukow01 9 months ago
The teachers have had a respected system of welfare on the backs of NJ taxe payers - life time benefits (even after retiring- never paying into them), Pension ( a check of an average of $4,000 per month), which they do not pay into. This is not a 401 or a savings plan - this is a property tax funded pgrm. NJ HIGHEST taxes IN NATION! $25,000 p/ pupil Asbury park students (& STILL FAIL) - middle class paying most taxes..p/pupill average is $8k

Vox91 10 months ago
@Vox91 Learn to read. I never excused the richest of America or the big banks, which are theives and we all know this. America's problem isn't 1 thing, it is a combination of wrongs. Unions and their ever increasing guaranteed pay with exuberant paid for benefits are a huge cost to America, AS WELL AS the Wall Street Banks and thier ponzi schemes, and the richest of America getting away scott free and not paying their fair share.
tycospg 10 months ago
@tycospg You need an alternative source of information besides FOX News. Unionized public employees make an average of 5-10% less in salary than private sector workers. Much of what you hear about unions is simply corporate propaganda. FOX News and the GOP won't be satisfied until 90% of the population are reduced to minimum wage jobs. Once upon a time in this country most workers received paid benefits. The fact that private sector workers have failed to organize to protect their.....
Vox91 10 months ago

Finally a leader who got where he is with substance and not a pretty smile.
That's what politicians have become. Just like a beauty contest, if you up the talent requirement, the contestants gets less beautiful but smarter.
Remember when music was good? Then MTV and the beauty factor came in and the talent went out.
This fat bastard needs to be president.

I don't think busting unions will make kids smarter but it WILL save a LOT of money.
That 's good enough reason for me.

Teacher unions tend to defend their greed by pointing out the greed of other corrupt organizations.

These posts reflect Christies earlier comments. "The road to fixing our debt problem is lined with resistance from those benefiting from the status quo."
niltomega 10 months ago
Unions are holding our kids hostage for personal gain. He is right there are bad people in every sector and there is a minority of them. But the things that the teachers Unions like to play the victim card like, "YOU HATE CHILDREN AND EDUCATION" We don't hate that at all just the corruption
Crisgo3d 10 months ago

MrNocomment13 10 months ago
@MrNocomment13 Teachers are the only ones who compare their paychecks with the top 1% earners, and then make a face.
niltomega 10 months ago
