You look great! You're not wearing a ton of makeup but I think that false lashes and wigs seem "fake" to those who aren't familiar with this style. I think people just get weird about "too much makeup" because it makes them feel wholesome if you know what I mean. You have great style and the inner beauty to rock a fashion that's very different. On a side note, this video always makes me want to stop whatever I'm doing and get dressed up!

I agree though when I first started wearing lolita I felt like it was a whole lot of fake. but it really is necessary to have these elements as they are crucial to the overall aesthetic. So I can understand that to some it seems like an over exaggerated style!

It's nothing, but have you ever watched "Josou Paradise", where very average high-school boys were transformed by professional makeup into gorgeously cute girls? It's easy to be beautiful, when having average face + a kilogram of plaster and wallpaper on the face. I would consider a girl beautiful, when she looks amazingly after she gets up in the morning and goes half - sleepy to the bathroom. Every other is just a cheat.

@pokrec Yeah, you can say that, but It's really just common knowledge that makeup is there to alter appearance. As I'm not trying to achieve natural beauty, the purpose of this is to completely derive from the 'usual' and 'natural' and appear un-realistic, plastic, doll like in appearance.

I personally don't think it matters if I'm beautiful or not, beauty is only skin deep!

I don't care if that makes me a cheat. I can feel happy in my own skin.

Regardless of if i'm ugly when I wake up or not!

@Celestrall It's definitely all about the makeup and hair to pull off the extreme styles. If your hair is like mine *i.e. not suitable or voluminous to pull off loli* I'd definitely recommend a wig. (or even just falls)

And definitely watch a lot of tutorials. I personally like MAC video tutorials but there's a lot of great ones on youtube too. keep practising and you'll be an amazing lolita before long i'm sure!

@Peacefullylovely143 Yes it's liquid liner on my top lid but I use gels for my waterline (I don't know if that's ok though I have no problems personally) I find that I can change my eye shape using differently weighted liner and white pencil on my waterline. I also have a little trick where I add black liner to only the outer corner of my waterline and then dragging the bottom line through my lashes to continue the shape and give the illusion of differently shaped eyes.

Well, now that lolita has become more popular, I've seen ALOT of "lolitas", especially in america, that are just cosplaying fangirls. Cheap satin dresses, no petticoat, no makeup, and nothing done to their hair/a wig. (or very very cheap plastic wigs)

I know what you mean, I see it a lot myself. I try to do my best to help some people learn to look out for quality when they are buying dresses. Fabrics and finishes make a huge difference. satin and nylon lace are definite no no's. petticoats and makeup are also must haves. and a nice non shiny wig is preferable!

It's definitely quality that matters for this fashion.
