OK, I just listened to this 3 times in a row AGAIN. Back in the day when I bought this album as a teen I thought this was a masterpiece.

I still do!

The only unfortunate thing for me was, Deep Purple-- who I saw twice way back when-- never seemed to do a really great live version of it. I don't know if it was drugs or primitive PA equipment or a combination but I was disappointed twice hearing this. Any good live versions out there?

The one from 1972 in b/w here on youtube seems to have pretty decent sound. It's better quality than the pre-album German TV cut, anyway. I think the '72 one is from Japan. You see the same effect with the Ventures and other bands around that time period: black and white only but much better sound quality.

You mean scalloped frets (that is what it is called) That is who Yngwie Malmsteen got his idea years ago to scallop his frets on his guitar. Yngwie's Idol is Richie too.

I use to own two Fender Yngwie's strats and played them for years, great guitars but not everyone's cup of tea.
