  • it's awesome to hear the masters of different genres interpret each other's contributions to their art...

"there's only two kinds of music: good music... and bad music"

    -the Duke

    this is definitely good music

  • A far cry from the old "Power Trio" jazz & finesse.

  • Good to see Clapton not looking like his slob/grunge incarnation of late!!!!

  • This could be played at a New Orleans funeral procession...brilliant!!!

  • Can somebody tell me what guitar is Eric using, please? I guess it's Gibson ES-something....

  • @sledziu2121 Looks like An ES-335. Most famous Gibson Hollowbody.

  • Sublime, da pelle d'oca!

  • YA ME PUEDO MORIR TRANQUILO POR DIOS QUE VERSION INCREIBLE EXCELENTE

  • @desertswo Sorry, not 10:44! I was thinking about a longer video of this! Clarinetist is at 8:14.

  • The Prohibition Layla. Your Grandfather's Layla. The Depression Era Layla. The NOLA Layla.

Any way you put it, it sounds incredible! Eric's never sung more raw and soulful than this.

  • @desertswo Definitely. Eric took a big leap by trying jazz and leave the comfort zones of rock and blues. What's more, he's with the antiquated-jazz-purist Marsalis! Twice as difficult!

Clapton does a terrific job soloing on Closer Walk with Thee and Careless Love, and has the guitar for the job. This is the only song he seemed to struggle with. He started out well, but used all his tricks early and runs out of steam near the end. The clarinetist kind of ribs him a bit at 10:44 :P

  • Thank You Carlos!!!

  • God!!!! So amazing!!!!

  • Amazing how in one song you can get a touch of rock, blues, jazz, and maybe even big band. Only ERIC CLAPTON can pull it off! True talent!

  • I’ve been watching and listening to Eric for the better part of 45 years now, and I’ve never really seen him “uncomfortable” before now. Maybe that's not the right term, but he's definitely aware he’s in rarefied musical territory with some of the best of this generation’s jazz masters. He’s got to bring the real shit or his credibility takes a hit. It’s clearly not his métier, but he doesn’t embarrass himself. Well done Eric; you’ve pretty much done it all now. Not many people can say that.

  • @desertswo amazing analysis, I as a fan of music, Clapton, lover of many styles aprechiate your comment. I hope to share a stage with him some day....

  • @desertswo You've been listening to Clapton for so many years, and all you can get is 3 likes to your post
