es para crear mano de obra barata y capacitada en abundancia, asi las multinacionales no tiene que pagar en formación laboral específica sin una base informática y al tener esta base toda latino américa los salarios queden por el piso.

El ClassMate y el OLPC, creo que estan destinados a DOS MERCADOS DIFERENTES. Si se fijan dice: "si el papa tiene que elegir un computador"... este computador no esta orientado a los paises pobres. Intel lo ofrecio a Chile porque ve que Chile podria gastar mas dinero en estos computadores. Es para paises de la "clase media" mundial y paises desarrollados que pueden pagar mas por una maquina mas potente, pero para niños.

lo que esta en juego es... cual sera la plataforma mas popular del mundo. Obviamente que Intel tiene que defender su pastel... y los proveedores del OLPC tambien lo hacen por interes comercial, no son solo fines altruistas.

This is a hoax and I doubt intel is dedicated ot the initiative of freedom that OLPC tries to achieve. The XO laptop is meant on disruptive innovation giving software to the kids through the schools. While the intel model is to give the control to the schools. This treats kids as workers in a company where company say what you should learn and use.

Intel is dumping the price of these (in low volumes only) in the same countries that OLPC is trying to start mass producing the XO-1 in. Intel should work with OLPC instead of working against it. There are enough poor students in the world for Intel not having to go to the exact same launch countries as OLPC and to try and undercut the XO-1 price-per-unit to implement only low scale testing instead of sponsoring a real one laptop for every child project.

Pero cuesta más del doble. La OLPC estará costando finalmente u$s175 para mediados de 2007, contra u$s400 del Intel. Además el consumo energético de la última es mucho mayor, con una mayor dependencia de la batería. Además el concepto principal de la OLPC es que el software sea gratuito pero además de código abierto, con lo que puede ser modificado por los usuarios. La idea de la Classmate es venderte el sofware también. Tiene el hardware indispensable para poder cargar un Windows XPE

I couldn't agree more. The whole point of the OLPC project is to provide computer access for everybody, including those located far away from the power grid. With out a crankshaft power supply, intel have just cut down their customer base by ~2 billion people.

Also as per your point, $400 is NOT an affordable price. Heck, if I had the choice between Intels Classmate and a Nintendo DS, the Nintendo DS has a LOT more going for it.
