  • I love this song my fiance' always sings it to me and brings tears to my eyes. My name is Amanda

  • Waylon owns every song he sings. Miss himxx

  • @mcgic1 what do you mean by "Waylon owns every song he sings" NO he does not. he sings songs that were recorded by other artists before him, and he recorded songs that were written by other people like every other singer does. but he was a great artist. and i love him

  • @rosemarie443 I don't think it was meant to be literal ownership. I think maybe it was like, whatever he is singing he is feeling it strongly. It becomes a part of him. But, I could be wrong.

  • @rosemarie443 exactly what the next lady said...not literally owns but he nails every song he sings. Others may have sung them before or after him but, to me, his delivery is the one I prefer every time.

  • @rosemarie443 For us who were raised in a mainstream, dysfunctional home led by working-class parents, we don't want to listen to this song being sung by a "softer and gentler" person. We prefer the real and rough sound of a man to whom we can relate. My gritty father would play this song as an unspoken apology toward my mother and us kids for his outrageous behavior. It remains a shame he acted like he did, and its a shame he never lived to be 40. For us, Waylon's version is more than pretty.

  • @JOYisREAL I am not knocking Waiylon i love this man. and i have all of his records. i a sorry that your home was dysfunctional, bukt i can not do anything about that your parents were the only ones that could change things. but i like both singers, i thought that maybe some of you people didn't know that Don Williams had also but this record. please take no offence because i didn't mean any.

  • @rosemarie443 No offense taken; thanks for responding. I know you are a beautiful person. I don't believe Don Williams wrote this song either? I believe he was the first to make it popular. Sometimes the original artist, or first recorder, is not the best version. Usually they are. I, like others, prefer Waylon. And yes, you are correct, the prefernce for one artist over another is usually based upon personal taste and background, not black and white facts. I love all authentic country music!

  • @JOYisREAL thank you for your post, now you take care and have a beautiful life.

  • yes, Waylon was a true legend and still is, i still have every record album anybody could buy when i wasgrowing up. This talented man was my all-time favorite. I will never get tired od hearing his music. Thanks for the playlist posts. It is great!!!

  • A True Outlaw Legend ask Hank3

  • I begged my mom to change my name to Amanda after I heard Waylon sing this song!!!!! I ♥ ♥ LOOOOVE ♥ ♥ WAYLON!!!!!!!

  • @THECUPCAKESUGARPIE now why would you want to change your name? your folks gave you a name, it might not be what you liked, but at least the named you. you didn't have to go by baby all of your young life. did you know that there hkave been children that were never named, because their parents didn't want them

  • @rosemarie443 ;) ;) I know, just kiddin''-I got to visit with Waylon's on his bus when I was 9yrs. old, he was soo wonderfully nice... However, being 9yrs. old, I was just very jealous of whoever this "Amanda" was. :) :) :) Have a fabulous week......... ENJOY!!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  • @THECUPCAKESUGARPIE there you go cupcake, you take care and have a beautiful life

  • @rosemarie443 The longer I know you, the more I realize - You're somethin' else Rose. Have a good life. Your friend.

  • What a beautiful song! What a talented man he was! God bless you Waylon Jennings.

  • Truly Classic. Those of us who grew up with this stuff or have real taste in music will never forget what real country music is. I pity those who have the nerve to label Taylor Swift or Rascal Flatts country. I pity those those who have never listened to a good Hank Sr, Acuff, Jennings, Gene Watson, Strait, Cash, Willie or Haggard song. A good, true country song comes around once in a while, but I'm afraid we will never again come close to the talent in this video. RIP Country Music 1936-2003

  • get ready HOSS...hitch up the wagons and get ready to drive the new country crap out of town..time to make room for the return of country music..real country....

  • I was named after this song :)

  • @tommy44432 I hear you my friend, a sad day for sure.

  • @tommy44432 and Conway too; can't fergit Johnny Cash; i miss 'em; I miss the classics and I haye what country had become

  • @tommy44432 yes country died with Waylon, Johnny Cash, Merl is still there but doesn't make records anymore, they were people of their time, and it will never come back. i miss all of these people

  • @tommy44432 so true

  • @tommy44432 The whole country cried the day we lost Elvis. I was 13 and remembering my mother crying when she heard it on the news.

  • @tommy44432 Absolutely, and pop died with the loss of Michael Jackson. But Waylon, he was just the best. What a voice and he sure could pick that guitar.

  • @tommy44432 Onething is for sure, rock died with Elvis.

  • @tommy44432 Waylon missed that fateful plane ride and am so happy he did. Sorry for those we lost.

  • why so many dislikes ?

  • This is the song my mother named me for. She always said that if she had a daughter, she just knew that that girl would be the "light of her life." I had never heard it until today, and I am so moved by it. Beautiful song, beautiful voice, lovely and simple melody. Thanks mum! I love you!

  • The hair on my shoulders and the age in my eyes, Waylon and alot of us had something in common. Just turned 40 and still wearing jeans. Someday I'll grow up. But Waylon is forever.

  • This is the one "Amanda" that I don't mind being sung to, beautiful.

  • I was named after this song too ... the only problem is that i am a guy .

  • Ol' Waylon was one of the all time greats. He was one of my favorites along with with Bocephus, The Possum and Conway. But, Don Williams version of this song is better in my opinion. It is close, but Williams edges it out.

  • THere will never be another country singer like WAYLON.....what a voice, what a presence.....he was GREAT !!

  • Look at Mr. Cash in the background, these guys are such amazing artists and are sorely missed. RIP.
