I'm 14 and I've planned coming out this friday night or thursday so long and I can't wait. I feel like my feminin gayness is flowing over the ''closet glass'' :P
I promise you that AIDS is one of the last things I think about when I think about gay people. You seem like such a nice guy. I'd love to be able to meet you sometime. Oh - and if you have a minute (or 5), you might check out my channel. One of the songs I sing is about acceptance of everyone, and it centres on a gay man. (I didn't write it.)
My mom accepted it pretty well. I was about 16 when she noticed me and my best friend starting to change. I guess we didn't hide things very well, lol. It was all new to us. My dad knows but is still in denial, no matter how often it is brought up.
Michael, how did your mother and brother take the news?
lol that kinda happened to me -I was 13 and my mom went up to me and was like do you like girls?and I told her ya and that was that. and then later I was on the phone with my girlfriend at the time (no one knew she was my girlfriend or at least I didn't think they did) and my mom asked my dad what I was doing and he told her I was on the phone with my girlfirend. I was soo confused I ddin't know that he knew but apparently I did. So I didn't really have a coming out story. No bravery whatsoever.
I'm glad you amended what you did. I came out just this year, a little before my 25th birthday, and felt it was right about the right time; I first had to be comfortable with the fact before I could tell others.
Agreed! One thing I might add is that if staying in the closet is affecting your social life and/or happiness, then it is a good idea to come out. Whom to come out to is personal choice obviously - and even so... you still have to think about your safety. Wait til you're both old enough AND financially secure, as you never know what might happen and you want to secure your own basic needs and safety first! Never be pressured to feel like you need to tell EVERYONE or make some huge announcement!
Coming out isn't one size fits all. But fortunately it's getting easier to do at younger ages all of the time. People are just becoming more accepting, & that's a good thing.
One warning I would add is that if you're in a family where you know that coming out might jeopardize your safety or make you homeless (most have an inkling if they're in such a family), WAIT to come out until you're on your own. There's no rush. Your parents have a responsibility to support you while you're young.
I think you should weigh out your odds and keep in mind the people YOU are dealing with. Contrary to popular belief, the world will not fall apart if you elect NOT to discuss your sexual preferences with some of your family members. For some generations, things like this are personal and private and do not have to be discussed. Most of the time, they already know about you.Does it magically make it so much better to tell the world? Sometimes..and some people....not always. It is a personal choice.
I'm not gonna say something stalker-creepy like "Oh wow, you understand me, Michael!"
Even though I subscribe to you on YouTube, I still think you're a stranger. But this video makes you "less distant" from me, and I think you're more of a cool guy now because of it. Your personality and appearance becomes more attractive with each video you make, especially when it's as cool and open-hearted as this one. Thanks for the encouragement, Mike!
Thank you for recognizing that each person has his/her own situation and it's a personal decision that only the person coming out can make. I just got "dissed" earlier today by another gay who believes that all gays not out of the closet are hypocrits. I vehemently disagree with that. The last thing a gay contemplating coming out needs is for another gay or the gay community, on YouTube or elsewhere, to "diss" them.
This vid is well done. Sorry, Michael, about your experience. Stay Cute
I think it's a lot more easy for young people to come out these days than it was 20 years ago. People are more excepting now and more open minded than they used to be.
Oh by the way, your hair style six months ago made you look so young LOL :)
If you think it's easier now than it was 20 years ago, think what it was like 40 years ago. The word "gay" had not been invented. You were referred to as a "queer" or a "homo" (even "faggot" wasn't in use) and that's just the beginning of the trouble.
Your absolutely right, I just used 20 years as an example, But I can remember long before that how it used to be. A lot of young people don't realize how easy they have it these days.
In the old days it was best to keep your mouth shut about being gay as everyone was afraid of getting beaten up or shunned by everyone.

"... I wish I would have came out earlier."
Your queer card has been cancelled for grammar.
