Yep, I see that now. Was watching for it during the trades. But I see it as a little showmanship not one-up-manship. He obviously uses both hands when they all get into it.
@skyla61 If you watch the player on the left of the scree, you can see clearly that he is leaning on the piano with his left hand. Don't believe me? Go to 22 seconds and pause it then. You don't need glasses to see that. He might scream, but it's ridiculous the way he leans back as though he doesn't care. The other platyers (all legends) are playing with both hands. Not quite sure who the idiot is now.
@Kickerinthehead No my firend . As if it matters, I'm almost twice your age and have been playing trumpet most of my life. I love the Ellington band and everything about it. You're not telling me that the way the guy leans back on the piano as though it's all beneath him is not an insult to the other trumpet players? By the way, if you're going to call someone a retard, do some research first you prick.
@PINCHUNO No, it's not an insult at all. And how you can call yourself a trumpet player and have such a delusional mindset is beyond me. If Duke Ellington, who we all know got his name for being so polite, didn't have a problem with him I don't see why you would. If you don't like trumpet players with a little showmanship you're either a classical player or not a very good trumpeter...maybe both.
@Kickerinthehead Was there ever a trumpet player with more showmanship than MAynard Ferguson? Don't think so. When he did his thing, it made you feel good and he exuded positive energy. This guy just didn't. How can I not like trumpet players if I am one? What exactly is delusional about my mindset? That it's different than yours? Since when was that not allowed? I'm a profesional freelance trumpet player. I play what people ask me to, be it big band (my favourite) classical or latin.

@Pinchuno:
The only guy playing with one hand (Ray Nance?) had a hat (mute) in his left hand.
So now who's the idiot?

Sorry but I can't stand the idiot playing with just one hand. All the other fantastic players thought they should play with both hands, why not him?

@PINCHUNO Are you a greasy faced pre-teen who shits on amazing trumpet players for no reason or are you just a retard?

Haven't heard El Gato in years. Was on a Columbia LP, Stars in a Summer Night, I think.

@Hornman64
It's on "Duke Ellington Live at Newport" as well. That same lineup I think.
