I did an interview for this - I was in Grade 5 at the time. They didn't use any clips with me, though, so I must have done just as crappy a job as I thought I did. But hey, I was flustered! I had a bunched of great ideas of things to say and they started firing questions at me and I got so nervous that everything fell out of my head.
I was (and am) quite the environmentalist, so it was sad that I couldn't give any good ideas that I had come up with.
Well I just left Edmonton after 14 years to Ottawa. My dream is to come back by 2018. Do I expect some changes by then? Yes, the biggest is a more efficient transit system that can reach not only the core of Edmonton but the whole city. And for gods sake tear down that Municipal Airport and throw down some Hi Rises in there! =p
Edmonton MUST stop urban sprawl!!!! There is no need to keep expanding past the Anthony Henday. Everyone loves to talk about a dense city core, but it isn't happening. We need to expand inwards. We need to make the downtown and surrounding downtown neighborhoods attractive for people to LIVE. Edmonton cannot be a world class CITY otherwise. We're not a bunch of small cities/towns strung together. I want Edmonton to be more cohesive.
How about more public displays of art in Edmonton. There are so many creative minds in Edmonton. We should utilize the arts community and create some beautiful things. I'd love to see more art downtown (like around Jasper Ave, 104th Ave, or downtown east). People might enjoy spending time in the city's core. The city should work with the UofA, NAIT and Macewan to commission student-made public art projects.
What are the plans for whyte ave? Every hip/happening city has a trendy shopping/dining district. We should the traffic down and have cobble stone paving and try to have some of the best restaurants/shopping/night life.
I hope in kids in Edmonton in 2030 think for themselves and not listen to everything mainstream media tells them is right. Come on kids think outside the box and question everything. That's how we found out the world was round.
Bless these kids! I believe the world will follow this trend. It's time to end this dark age crap!
