I just got one of these, and S video works on NES you just have to have the aux video plugged in too for it to display colors, don't ask me why you have to have both plugged in I don't know but it works.
anyone know if the Super Famicom version of Super Mario RPG works on this because I know most ntsc ones won't only 1.0 versions but since it came out in japan first anyone know if it works.
I have a retro duo if you would like me to review it or any other console please comment on my video at my channel called Which vconsole/game should I revie next
The 9.0 sounds about right, the only problem is that there's no original NES controller port, meaning no original NES accesories. That is a problem with quite a few games, i.e. Bayou Billy, Duck Hunt. That;s my only real complaint, other than that I am more than impressed.
I bought this system 3 years ago and some game sound does get a bit muffled, like in "Blades Of Steel" (but the video is perfect), but it is great for just about everything else for the NES. I haven't had any sound or video issues with any SNES game I've bought so far.
oh wow some strong comments finally about this thing i'm more of an snes gamer but started on the nes and been looking for a system that can play both but i almost forgot about the super gameboy that just adds more to it but if super mario rpg can't work does that mean that other high graphical games won't either?
know if there is any console from Nintendo Super Nintendo and one that features the games sold in Spain would be the train you europeo.los Super NES games are not as square, thanks
On 10 i'd give the retroduo system a 9.5 on 10... I can't give it a 10 cause it's not the original NES or SNES... It's pretty damn close though ! Compared to the FC it can play pretty much all videogames. If you want OldSchool gaming, this is pretty much the thing to get. I wasn't disappointed at all !
@AllWalksofLife the retro duo never really breaks unless you apply force on the buttons or damge its top loader connectors works very well and emulates snes perfectly and nes well
Hello ans thank you for this video i'm french and not speak very well english Can you tell me please if this games are ok with this console FOR nes:kung fu/ punch out/paperboy/ excitebike/ track field2 and for SNES:mario world/ mario all star /jimmy connors tennis/super soccer Thanks very much
HELLO please i"m french and not speak very well english so can you tell me if this games are ok with the retro duo For nes:kung fu/ paperboy/excitebike/punch out/track and field2 and for snes:Jimmy connors tennis/super soccer/mario all star THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO bye
This thing is a PIECE OF SHIT, NES games hard as fuck to get out, then, after awhile, they are loose back and forth in slot, which breaks contacts. Junk. Controllers are generic Chinese shit, just poorly made, one look and you'll know. I imagine the douche in vid is selling this turd, and that's why he gives it favorable comments. Do yourself a favor, find an old NES and replace the 72 pin connector, or find a toploader. As Bill O'Reilly would say " Thing fucking sucks!!!!"
I love love love LOVE the super Nintendo!!! I played at all the time when I was young! I was bummed out when the counsel finally went out. But when I found out about this in a magazine, I was so excited! I ordered one a couple day's ago before watching your video! I so can't wait for it to come in!!! OMG Donkey Kong Country 3 was my all time favorite!!! I love in the second world how the country bear freaked out and shook the whole game to move a tiny log! hahahaha Good times!!!! XD Remember?!?!
is this faster than the super nintendo? because i don't know if it's just my super nintendo getting old, but the framerates in some games drop so much. i know about the whole slowdown issue the original had, but i don't remember the games running as slow as they are now. if anyone has aladdin or had it and remembers, was the last part where you face jafar nearly unplayable because of how slow it was?
I'm thinking about buying a retro duo, but before I do buy a retro duo I would like to know if the sound quality is good on both the NES an d SNES, and is it as good as the origina models?, and what is the differance between the retro duo and the FC twin. Will the retro duo play every single NES and SNES games ever made. Is it really worth the money? The price sounds resonable enough.
Only reason I want this is cus I still have my super old snes and don't wanna ruin it and still keep it for many years to come. My mom bought it for me years ago before she died. Miss you Mommy :'(
The sound chips are always going to be shit on these 3 party systems, due to having a correct sound chips it would be more expensive to sell or fear of lawsuits by Nintendo.
if u want a snes... then you shouldn't have trashed yours when you were a kid, just because your mom bought you a f***kin sony playstation! i saved mine only by miracle, and now that i got the Powerpak, its like returning to my childhood, except that now i own all the games i like! anyway, there's only one original SNES...
Finally got my Retro Duo, and tested it today.. Actually bought it mostly because I wanted to play Super Mario RPG on it, but it doesn't work :S I'm from Europe, and that game was never released here, so I can only play the import-version. Tried some other games, they did work. So I don't know if the problem is with the Retro Duo, or my copy of SMRPG..
The provided controllers are not that comfortable, compared to the original SNES-controllers, so better get some original ones.
@VRIDZ Ah, there's your problem, CERTAIN versions of SMRPGDON'T WORK on the retroduo from what I hear. You have one of the Jap. versions, I do believe the Jap. doesn't work on the retroduo, or you have a later version. Try getting a early Amercian copy. Early ones work fine if I'm not mistaken...Could be wrong, I just heard about this console, never OWNED one. =/ If you get version 1.1 or 1.2, those don't work, you need 1.0.
Super Mario RPG was released in several versions. According to Wikipedia, Software revisions 1.2 and 1.3 will not work on the system. I'm not sure how you can tell which one are what version though.
@JedahGR07 yes, i very as much dont like the controllers they give u but hey, they still work. im gunna try to get mah hands on SNES controllers for it.
Hey is it true that if you take out a SNES game that has a saved file out and put it back in being ,deleted? That's what i heard. I just want to know because i just orderd a Retro Duo
@GhostBongo no. buy retro duo. it costs less than buying a snes and nes (also considering that it is 2010, so that would be like trying to buy a banana from a hungry monkey) and it emulates the games well.
I had a problem with that too. What you need to do is really stuff the NES carttridge in. It takes a bit of a knack but you get the hang of it sooner or later.
I need help, I want to buy this, but I need to know if it will play super donkey kong, super donkey kong 2, super donkey kong 3... which are the japanese super famicom releases of donkey kong country. because i heard it wont play the european donkey kong country.
THAT SHIT IS ANNOYING if you're playing an NES game and even slightly budge the system or tug the controller, it'll freeze the game. The NES carts wobble like crazy inside the retro's slot. consider placing a trim around the slot so as to help keep the games a bit more steady
Try lifting the front of the unit by placing something under it, so that it tilts the system. It seems with the NES games being so wobbly you can have a hard time of keeping it from freezing the game whenever the cartridge is budged. I also had a bit of trouble starting up an SNES game@1st, I'm not sure what it was that was causing it but I made sure to remove the NES game so that only the SNES game was in. It seems you can just reset the cartridge and it'll work, but the NES slot is very picky
I own a Retro Duo and unfortunately I find that it butchers most of the music for NES games. Examples include: Zelda 1&2, and Castlevania 2. As for Megaman games they seem to be quite compatible, though a little off if you listen carefully. The SNES part works great. No complaints.
how do you know that that particular mario RPG you're using isn't a version 1.1 (which runs on all famiclone) have you tried it one a FC twin or a version 1 RetroDuo (which is reportedly crap)
Please someone help me out. yay finally picked up a retro Duo, its kinda stupid to ask now but i also picked up a few NES games. No SNES games yet. If I used a controller that cme with the Rettro Duo, could I use them with NES games? Do I need to buy a normal NES controller? Can I plug in the NES controll into the Retro Duo thnx plz help.
No you can't use the NES controller on the retro duo, it won't fit. The controller that come with it or a SNES controller will work, or your could do a mod on an NES controller. There are Youtube videos that show you how
i have some other questions- is the 8-bit a tight fit, are the pins tightly packed? (most NES systems meet get screwed up by the pins warping out of place especially the 8bit "toaster push" design)
As well, can you try out Paperboy and Battle toads (8-bit pain in the ass games that just so happen to run into play problems on both duo and fc twin- reportedly)
Im sad that mine broke. but it lasted a long time and it was really awesome. even though i have a nes and snes, i would gladly buy another one if someone offered it to me.
it AIN'T AN EMULATOR!!! it uses the same software as the snes and nes! read about it a little more. god forbid you guys go BLIND trying to read about and listen to the video instead of COMPLANING and GOSSIPING like 12 year old pubesent little girls.
well it's an emulator....so yeah it's not going to be as good as the real thing. Why you'd bother getting these emu-systems is beyond me when it's pretty easy getting an old nes.
I got it mostly for the SNES side, though, as I have an operable NES. The NES sound is in fact pretty poorly emulated on the RD, and I like to think I'm not overly picky about such things. It kind of sounds like the TV speaker is covered with about three layers of plastic wrap. That's the best way I can describe it.
The SNES side runs great. I haven't noticed any glaring emulation issues.
@poshko41 It has terrible sound for the NES half, i have one of these and an NES (i got it because i couldn't find an SNES) I don't know about the SNES half, so good luck.
The following games are not compatible with Retro Duo:
PAL * Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES) * Secret Of Mana (SNES) * Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World (SNES)
NTSC * Paperboy (NES) * Battletoads (Game hangs in second level) (NES) * Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (While the initial release works without flaw, later versions of the game have implemented measures to prevent use on non-genuine SNES consoles) (SNES)
HELP! I just ordered a Duo on eBay and am finding it nearly impossible to remove cartridges from the slots! I can insert games just fine, but the pins seem to be so tight that I practically have to hold the console down with my knees while ripping the game free with both hands! Is anyone else's Duo like this or should I exchange it for another ASAP?
i have a retro duo also, that is how mine is, it is normal, over time the pins will probibly loosen up. but them being tight is a very good thing. so you shouldnt exchange it that is normaol with duos.
What I do is I hold it down with firm pressure (Not too much) and for the 8 bit I lift the game to the right and pull from each side until it is loose enough to come out. For 16 bit I do the same thing just a little but not as much as the 8 bit.
Try that and see if it works for you.
It will loosin up a little as time goes on but it will still hold the game fine.
hey, do you guys happen to know if there is anyway of making the console work properly on a HD tv? The 8 bit games look ok to good, but the 16 bit look like a mess! I tried them on a regular tv and they look fine.
I just got one of these, and S video works on NES you just have to have the aux video plugged in too for it to display colors, don't ask me why you have to have both plugged in I don't know but it works.

trinasvideos 2 years ago

greatpapercraft2008 2 years ago
it AIN'T AN EMULATOR!!! it uses the same software as the snes and nes! read about it a little more. god forbid you guys go BLIND trying to read about and listen to the video instead of COMPLANING and GOSSIPING like 12 year old pubesent little girls.

The Amazon reviews say it doesn't emulate sound very accurately. Who do I believe...
poshko41 2 years ago 4
well it's an emulator....so yeah it's not going to be as good as the real thing. Why you'd bother getting these emu-systems is beyond me when it's pretty easy getting an old nes.
Hal566 2 years ago
Heh, mine came last week. :)
Now I'm just waitin' for my PowerPak to come. :)
poshko41 2 years ago
Yeah i dont think they're a bad idea especially if it gets people interested in classic gaming. :)
Hal566 2 years ago
@poshko41 some of the nes games, like super mario 3, have that problem but snes games are fine on it!
wolfenstien9000 1 year ago
@poshko41 well, it emulates nes sounds fairly good, but it emulates snes sounds VERY good. What am i to know? Well, i own one.

OcarinaN64 1 year ago
@poshko41 It has terrible sound for the NES half, i have one of these and an NES (i got it because i couldn't find an SNES) I don't know about the SNES half, so good luck.

r da normal fanicom compatible i wouldnt mind playin lost levels
mariomd1001 2 years ago
Here are some games that are NOT compatible:
SNES PAL:
Donkey Kong 1 2 and 3, Donald in Maui Mallard, Illusion of Gaia, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World
NeoAlpha92 2 years ago
The following games are not compatible with Retro Duo:
PAL * Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES) * Secret Of Mana (SNES) * Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World (SNES)
NTSC * Paperboy (NES) * Battletoads (Game hangs in second level) (NES) * Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (While the initial release works without flaw, later versions of the game have implemented measures to prevent use on non-genuine SNES consoles) (SNES)
this was taken from the wiki page.

Some games may not work on aftermarket consoles. If you try it on an original Super Nintendo, it'd work. :)

not every game will work. Its works with about 90% of all NES and SNES games

Endarkened93 2 years ago
i have a retro duo also, that is how mine is, it is normal, over time the pins will probibly loosen up. but them being tight is a very good thing. so you shouldnt exchange it that is normaol with duos.
yeaitwasme 2 years ago
Exchange nao.
Mapleholic 2 years ago
Mine was the same way.
What I do is I hold it down with firm pressure (Not too much) and for the 8 bit I lift the game to the right and pull from each side until it is loose enough to come out. For 16 bit I do the same thing just a little but not as much as the 8 bit.
Try that and see if it works for you.
It will loosin up a little as time goes on but it will still hold the game fine.
dragonballz768 2 years ago
hey, do you guys happen to know if there is anyway of making the console work properly on a HD tv? The 8 bit games look ok to good, but the 16 bit look like a mess! I tried them on a regular tv and they look fine.

Does this actually have the cords to hook it up, or do you have to buy them separately?
