  • While I do not know Freshwater personally, I am familiar with the religious community he springs from and the related churches in Morrow, Delaware, and Knox counties. The imbroglio Mr. Freshwater is in is one of his own choosing. This is a consequence of the hostile, self-centered style of Calvinist Christianity prevalent in the Evangelical congregations of Central Ohio. Freshwater set out to troll the secular world and has succeeded marvelously. He isn't a victim in this - he's on the attack.

  • How does science explain a young peasant woman in France surviving armed battle without God's help? Where is the missing link? How does science explain dinosaur and dragon descriptions being so similar? How does science explain dinosaur and human footprints side by side in a park in Texas?

    1. She was surrounded by soldiers who protected her. (NOTE: She was still captured and executed.)

    2.Look in the mirror.

    3. Please name one fire-breathing dinosaur.

    4. Fraud!

  • His supporters seem to be a bunch of typical fundietards. Glad he was fired. He should never teach in a public school again. What awful 'music' sounds like the singer was in great pain!!

  • @beatnikjd

Mr. Freshwater has not been fired--he was placed on unpaid leave.

His students met and exceed state standards on the Ohio Achievement Test.

  • he talked to students 1 on 1 about animals debating creationism...

  • How do animals debate creationism? (So, what are the views of the various animals on the creation issue?)

  • i was a student of freshwater-

    he would encourage and promote

his views with books, and he questioned students whether giraffes and woodpeckers were created. he also discredited carbon dating and paleontology regarding dinosaurs. 100% truth

  • If the age listed in your profile is correct--would that place you in Freshwaters class in 1993?

You mentioned "giraffes and woodpeckers"--how was this brought up in class?

  • Dude should be burned alive. That will teach him to burn crosses on peoples arms.

  • I'm glad this nut was fired.

  • Mr. Freshwater hasnt been fired—hes been suspended. The hearing, over the possible termination of his teaching contract, is still ongoing.

The findings of the independent investigation are being challenged in the hearing.

  • I hope very much that he eventually gets fired for pushing his religion in a public class.

  • I second what the second speaker in this video said:)

  • This is not all about a bible on a desk however if the board decided it wasn't in the legal and financial interest of the board to allow a teacher to keep a bible on his desk.....the teacher must remove it. if he/she does not...they are insubordinate and possibly putting the school district in legal and financial trouble. rallying the local Christians doesn't change the constitution or legal precedent

  • john freshwater is a serious douchebag!

i had him as a teacher in 8th grade and never shut the fuck up about hid relgion. He deserves being fired.

by the way....that person singing totally sucks!!!!!!!!1

  • He branded a child in his class! He belongs in prison.

He taught creationism. He has no businesses teaching that anti-science.

  • It is unlikely that the electrostatic device could have burned the child's arm—when the investigator tried to duplicate the burn, with the device, no burning occurred. The parents of the anonymous child need more than a photo to prove that he was burned or that John Freshwater was involved.

"A fair result can be obtained only by fully stating and balancing the facts and arguments on both sides of each question." --Charles Darwin in the Introduction to The Origin of Species.

  • You know, I happen to agree: Christians SHOULD pull their children out of public school. Hopefully, that will solve the incredibly stupid "teach the controversy" ploy of the creationists/ID(iot)s trying to get their RELIGION into the science classroom. Oh, but don't expect your children to get into colleges (see the case in California case going on right now).

  • You are probably referring to the University of California case. A couple of the people speaking for the University described the situation this way, "the problem is not . . . that the creationist view is taught as an alternative to scientific explanations, but that the nature of science, the theory of evolution, and critical thinking are not taught adequately."

  • Yes, the case is Association of Christian Schools International et al. v. Roman Stearns et al. And the point is - if you choose to teach children quasi-science (that which is not "generally accepted in the scientific community"), don't expect them to be accepted in secular colleges and universities because they won't have "adequate instruction in the subject matter." (partial quote from UC's provost). No doubt Bob Jones University will accept those courses...
