Love Supcom for it is a real thinking game. Plenty of varying strategy and attack formation based on Air, sea and land. Your AI opponent, will see your weakest position and attack you while you are busy building up your own strategy! Although you can see more closeups with CoH, it does not have much variants in strategy to use. Replay value is not there at all. Nice to look at in the beginning but nothing to look forward after that. Supcom has high learning curve but after that WOW!!!

Supreme commander is better! I can say this, even though I dont have company of heroes. Why? well, it took me days to install supreme commander after hours of troubleshooting and searching. Then there was big problems with sound, and I wasn't getting music or cutscenes. There is also significant slowdown because of my somewhat old computer. AND I STILL LOVE IT!!! SUPCOM ROCKS!

SupCom did suck.. because of the slow pace and graphics and user interface. However Supreme Commander FA is legend. It has what I first expected from SupCom. Large battles, stunning graphics n interface, diversity between factions,and a fast pace with intense micro and macro.

Um... Company of Heroes is much better. First off the soldiers are practically real as in they take cover and have many different emotes for countless situations. The graphics are far more stunning. There might be more variety in Supreme Commander but it is not at all unique in the RTS world of gaming as CoH is very unique.

Combat in SC basically boils down to selecting a bunch of guys and saying "attack here". The main focus is really more on the resource management and building and stuff. If that's what you're into, then have at it. Personally I prefer CoH where the depth is focused on the combat itself. I like to win a game because I cleverly placed a mine at spot X that blew his ubertank's treads or something like that, not winning because I used a better build order and amassed more guys in a big attack.

It is full of technical bugs, I have a high spec PC running windows vista with the latest drivers and I can manage only a few weeks with this game.

After a few weeks it start complaining of a PGN file corruption and displays a message complaining that my PC doesn't comply with the minimum requirements, then I have unninstal and reinstall the game to keep playing.

I've played Company of Heroes a lot as well. As a Dawn of War fan, I had high expectations for this game (I was not disappointed). Extremely fun game that has edges out SC because the gameplay is more fluid (SC is a little stiff, hard to describe you have to play them each 50+ hours to understand). I'd say buy them both. Also, they both have Directx10 patches now, too.

Well I can tell you that I played supreme commander all three campaigns to the end plus quite a bit or skirmish and online. It's a fun game, and there isn't any other RTS that has quite the scope of it. That's sort of it's own downside though: It's sometimes too massive to the point of irritating. I.E. Supermassive elite units = annoying as is the heavy artillery.

some of the maps are the equvilent size of 80km by 80km... and with the MAP EDITOR MOD you can create even bigger maps, like the usa map which took tacticle nukes a full 2.5 minutes to cross the screen. and supcom has a few more realism. much more strategy needed. BUT sup com does have its bad parts. only 8 missions per faction.

supreme commander is allso, according to chris taylor, extreemly "moddable" and ive cheacked the supcom filesites and found so far 1 new race, 30 gameplya changes(including the very popular 4rth dimension mod) and about 50 new units and stuff.

Where CoH is a battle, SupCom would be the entire war. CoH forces the player to remain closer to the ground, hence closer to the action. CoH feels very like the WarHammer series that the game engine is from. Supreme Commander is in a completely different category within the RTS scope.

Compare CoH to CnC3, to be fair. SupCom's arena of battle is far beyond the small map/single conflict scale.

COH is great but your review of SC was a joke. If you want anyone to take you serious you need to actually play the game you are reviewing. Spending a day and a 1/2 on any modern game doesn't cut it. Your review boiled down to: I hate strategic zoom. There was no objectivity here. As to the graphics complaint, I wonder what level of detail you had it set to, probably low. Next time you do a review, play the whole damn thing through, learn about all its features and present them.

You're certainly welcome to your opinion, but if you're going to do a review, it would be nice if you took the time to do it right instead of glossing over all the details and essentially just saying, "I don't like it, so I didn't play it much." SupCom is a high-level strategy game. It places more importance on resource management, intelligence, and large scale planning, rather than focusing on the individual units like CoH. If you don't like that, fine, but try to be a little objective.

*Oh I play CoH too... if you're looking for the goods of SupCom, I'd recommend trying the multiplayer via GPGnet. If you like simple games and are easily amused I'd definitely suggest CoH. If you like a challenge and a game that you'll still love 10 years down the road, SC all the way. Every time Chris Taylor touches on a genre he changes it, don't miss out on this masterpiece (SupCom). Go back to 4d boxing back in the day... Triple play 96(or 97) , TA, Dungeon Siege...

If you don't have a sweet computer though don't bother until you can get an upgrade or afford something to run supcom.

Things like memorizing build orders, and selecting a bunch of icons and then attack-moving into some other icons is not my idea of depth, while CoH incorporates highly tactical elements like cover, suppression and flanking that make it a blast to play.

I try to include a little bio, so the viewer can get a feeling of my play style. If our styles match, then the review should care more weight. I guess it is a matter of taste. If you like getting a bunch of Legos together building them up and then smashing them all together than SC is for you. If you want more intimate relationship with each one of your units, where the destruction of one really means something, then COH might be more your cup of tea. As for graphics -- OMG COH arty drops an orgy of destruction for the eye to behold.

Creating own maps is not a main element in gaming. Besides, creating maps will sometimes draw you away from actual gaming. Distracting I would say. So that wouldn't really matter to me.

A buddy of mine is having problems with the game too. He tells me there are certain video cards that have issues with the game. My advice is check your video drivers and install update them if needed. After that, install direct x again. If that doesn't work, play with resolutions and game detail settings to see if that helps. Hope you get it working, it is a great game.

I agree they are two completely different games in play style. One style I personally enjoy. As for the comparing them, I agree that you can't compare the two. The reason I reviewed both is time. I have very limited time to play games, making reviews of them takes away from the game time so I was trying to bang out two reviews at once. BTW got Stalker -- GREAT single player game. Multi player is weak.

Confusing I find both in completely different Genres. I realise that they are both RTS's but they are just too different to compare.

LOL the old dude might as well have said "Supreme Commander is too much RTS for me to handle." Supreme Commander is the graphically inferior game (not by much), but any gamer knows graphics don't make a game.

Supreme Commander is by far the deeper of the two games, and for true RTS fans weather it's bayonets or robots...depth is what really matters.

As for Graphic / Gameplay, as you pointed out I am slightly youth challenged and have been playing low graphics games for a long time so that is not my motivation. But COH does have great graphics. Those that like SC please post video review response w/ video of game and I would be happy to post.

Got Supreme commander and getting company of heroes, supreme has features I love in RTS that many are lacking (AOE, C&C Gen <-- generals was such a shit game wow) like shear size and super units that take a beating, and COH is very well described by my friends as the best RTS by far, none of my friends ever played single player lol only multi they say thats where COH shines...

Both games are good your preference is your business as long as you enjoy at least one thats all that matters..

Agreed. I hope to convey my style of game play within my reviews, allowing the viewer to review me as well as the game. If our styles match then my opinion should care more weight. If they don't then I hope they post comments or better yet their own video review of the game. BTW just got Stalker -- OMG -- System Shock meets EverQuest in a Nuclear Holocaust. So far LOVE IT but it gets frustrating -- save game a lot to save sanity.

i like CoH. I got CoH. Lol the bad thing is i run on low setting. Graphics are awesome zoom in or zoom out lol it fixed. I like blast effect and etc. ATM im on level 7 campaign with normal mode. I wonder if is there a axis campaign? BTW what is the minimum required for SupCom. Mine is 1.6 ghz, 1 gig , GeForce FX 5500

CoH you can play Axis. go to skirmish mode. change to axis slot.

Very cool review. I do believe CoH is the "better" game, overall, but I'm utterly fascinated by the scope of Supreme Commander. Both games are great.

Both are different games so I cant say which one Id like more...CoH is crazy micromanagement with insane details in gameplay and Supreme Commanders like massive assaults that end up blowing everything up

like i said both fun and good in different ways...depends on style and preference i guess

Good review, said WHY you like CoH over SupCom with out bashing SupCom. Personly I agree with Alienzzzzz01, for actual strategy SupCom is the better game. This will be evednet in a few years when tons of people will still be playing SupCom on line.

I don't believe that's true, an infantry player can just as well destroy a armor player in CoH with proper tactics, in SupCom, it's whoever builds the experimental units first, it's essentially "Whoever builds a Monkeylord first, wins!"

I actually liked the review model - very personal, witout trying to say games you don't like are good, even if everyone else says it.

Anyway, I like SupCom and COH, I think both complete each other because of the completely differens scale and due to the fact that COH is organic and human and SupCom is a SciFi regalia.
