I always wonder wat is the full price of a real world rally car I been looking for the prices but I cant find any dose any one kno the price for like a citroen ds3
@addiboo1234 at least 400,000 euros. Skoda Fabia WRCs now sell for 200,000 . The old 2.0 litre WRC cars used to sell for 300,000 if they were near new (i.e. 2008 Focus last year), so add on a bit more for a brand new one. Then think about spare parts ;)
Theres alot of very retarded people here. Rally cars are fast for only 1 real reason - yeah they're tuned engines, but it's the GEARBOX ratios that make them so fast - good acceleration, shitty topend [rally cars are lucky to hit 120MPH in a rally.]
Close ratio gearboxes. Put a close ratio box on a fucking lawn mower and it'll be just as quick, a completely standard car can be this quick, it will just have to sacrifice topend.
Rally cars are only about 300BHP [easy to tune to that level, once you've got steel conrods the compression can be raised, turbo boost turned up, and fueling matched. That'll give you the 300BHP. Then the gearbox - thats the part that makes the differnce!!! The car itself isnt expensive really - to sell AFTER a rally it'd fetch quite alot. So... do you do this for a living? competition car peperation? No i didnt think so.
@Rsspecial1 Go build a WRC car that can compete against the Works WRC cars and come and tell me how much it cost. Do you not see GRP N cars going for over a $100,000USD. Im not talking about a WRC car built in in the 90s either, Im talking about Citroen C4 or a S12B or a 07 Focus.
@rally511 the gearbox on an average wrc car is around £20k for a new one... or about £12k for a refurbished one. the wrc's are going for nearly as low as £30k now..
@LIP15 Oh come on, surely you know more than that?
..you do realise that the amazing thing about WRC engines is not the peak BHP which you correctly stated at around 300bhp, but its the torque they produce from their 2.0 engines - try 550ft/lb @ 4000rpm (compare to a Ferrari F430 - 483bhp & 343ft/lb)
You do also realise that the combination of weight saving, suspension and body rigidity, shit loads of torque and YES the close ratio box makes them extremely fast all raound.
@Bicko686 Flat shift is correct, yes they have anti-lag but why would it be turned on while travelling on the road section?? ps i've competed in a wr car before
it's just the spent fuel on gear change popping through the system. The sudden change in revs on gear change create excess fuel. The turbo pushes the mixture out hard through the exhuast and you get a pop. My RS does it and I loooove it!
Many cars with sequential gearboxes produce this noise when changing up the gears, anti-lag produces noise from the turbo, not when they change gear. This car has no turbo but still makes the noise /watch?v=tudvXJ9_VBo&feature=related
Anti lag can be turned off by switch. WRC cars have "road mode" and "stage mode". When in "road mode" as in this video the anti-lag is turned off to save fuel, lower turbo temperature etc.
@creationofsociety - well many turbo charged- tuned rally based car- like evos or stis can beat these since on the street you dont have to use turbo restrictors. WRCs have around max 650Nm torque and 300-320 BHP, where street Mitsubishis or Subarus can have around 700Nm and 450-550 Bhp easily. Now acceleration needs HP so street car would win. The max a WRC could do is to match acceleration until around 60Mhp- it takes about 3-3.5 secs, but then a good street car needs only 6.5 secs till 120mph
@hunspikey It's not all about outright BHP. Power delivery in a WRC is available from very low RPM due to anti-lag. Combine this with short gear ratios and the fact that they are under 1200KG results in you needing a very special road car to compete with these guys! (up to 120 mph anyway)
P.S
6.5 to 120?? what street car do you have? A Veyron takes 7.5 to 120! hehe :P
@torbwrc Sorry I was not clear enough. Good street cars (normal tuned cars) need around 6.5 sec for the 60-120 mph acceleration. Which means around 10 secs for the 0-120. This is way faster than a WRC. But the meaning of a WRC is not its acceleration but its unparalelled handling, cornering, braking, and that it can do this all on virtually any terrain. Since you asked Im driving a Mitsubishi EVO6- 475 BHP.
ps: the min legal weight of a WRC is 1320 kgs- its a rule.
@filipzanetic yes it can, cos it has about 120 BHP more than any WRC, plus it has the same torque... Again I'd like to point out that WRCs are not good for their engine power. They are uber for their suspension and tranny.
@creationofsociety no road car would ever keep up with him on a rally stage, dont get me wrong rally cars are just about the best thing ever. but alot of cars could probably keep up straight line :)
There is almost nothing to see in this video, but when you are used to attend rally events (like me), the sound of an ALS of a rally car and the atmosphere of a WRC driving in normal traffic makes this a good movie!!
