i wanna see someone playing the f**king game, i've got it sitting in the loungeroom, but my laptop is in the shop atm and i wanna see what gameplay is like before i play it.
@patriciaauguste217 I completely disagree, DoW1 is far superior. DoW2 is simply Company of Heroes but with Warhammer. DoW1 has much more content and the classic RTS battle system, sure it's lacking graphics but it still stands as one of the single greatest RTS' of all time.
I thought the single player owned multiplayer, but I like base building, so, yeah. Plus the variety of mods out there really make the single player awesome too. Relic fails at making stuff un-moddable. Rofl.
DoW2 is a totally different game with a very different play style. You have only 3 factions. I personally have reverted back to DoW1 after a month, because DoW1 has so much more fun to offer. The battles in DoW1 are bigger. You have 9 races (not even counting the mods), larger squads, larger maps, more types of infantry, more armored vehicles, hundreds more maps etc. etc.
DoW2 has improved graphics and the cool looking tyranids. But as far as I am concerned DoW1 has all the real fun.
DoW is the only RTS i know of that has Méleé for all units. Most games keep it at arms length by adding one or two units that Méleé (like the soviet armoured war bear in C&C red alert 3 ) or just ignore it all together.
dont forget about the total war series(empire total war, not sure M2TW or RTW)! i love medieval total war but my comp needs to be upgraded to play this, i got everything but got 1 gig of ram :( need 2 more i guess? this game looks AMAZING
stupid blizzard fanboys really dont know what their on about. lets just get one thing straight: sc coppied 40k lore... dont bother arguing, its a fact, not an opinion.
No, only 4 of the basic faction are available with a small Imperial guard presence (like in original DoW release).
So I think Chaos, Imperial Guard, Tau and Necron risk to come before them except if they plan to make an Inquisition army which would really fit well in a chaos, imperial guard, inquisition scenario (maybe even the demon army amoung those =) )
Yeah I agree. It's still a good game and it's quite fun but it's very simplistic compared to the original DoW. Not many unit types, only 4 units at a time for most of the game.. No vehicles except the Dread at the end. All very small scale tactics.
And worst of all no way to play Ork in single player T_T
I find DoW2 to bit more complex then the original DoW and also much closer to what tabletop is.
Has for no ork in single player, hmmm the original DoW release only had Space Marine campaign you know and the 4 unit at the time is for single players not multiplayers.
And try to play on the Primarch difficulty setting it much harder then any original DoW campaign on the hardest setting.
But I admit on the normal setting you can just do about anything that not stupid and still win in DoW2.
I dunno if I'd call it closer to TT. Maybe in multiplayer it's closer but I usually just play single and that's definitely not like TT at all. Maybe a bit more than the first DoW because you can use cover but yeah..
I dunno I just felt like the game, if you're not into multiplayer, is a bit of a rip.. But I guess all games these days focus on multiplayer and almost forget about single.
Ya depend on your point of view I admit it doesn't use same calculation then TT and don't forget your playing hero unit in single player not the common rank unit (if we can call a space marine common rank =p) But I admit the tyranid swarm is far from be what it is on TT at least on normal difficulty. But like I said try the game on primarch if you haven't already it really something else at least for me for you really are on even footing with what you are fighting on that difficulty.
Yeah I've done a round on hard now and that's already better.. Guess Primarch is my goal this weekend ;D Even if it's not perfect it's still a pretty fun game ;)
@highndry18 actually the tyranids were inspired by the zerg, the tyranids are new to dawn of war 2 they have only been around for 3 to 4 years. You are talking about the centaurs that used to be in dawn of war. Don't lie! Even if Starcraft is a clone which is probably isn't it is just an own thought that is similar. Plus star craft turned out way better! good old "American know how." Dawn of war is very boring mostly. LFG systems suck and game play sucks
@logan500 try reading some gaming history. The first Tyranids came out in the game Space Hulk in 1980 (Classic board game by the way), making their table top strategy debut in the first edition of Warhammer 40K. Zerg were inspired by the Tyranids, as well as the Xenomorphs from Aliens.
@Blackcomic23 I already know this was a classic baord game but tyranids werent around in dawn of war. They were only around for 4-5 years. Tyranids were inspired by Zerg. deal with it!
@logan500 Why am I supposed to deal with something so insanely wrong? As has been pointed out, the Tyranids have been around since 1980, nineteen years before Starcraft was created.
@Blackcomic23 Give me the website and everything that says that and I will believe you. I have been painting these Warhammer 40k models for years I know that Tyranids have not been here for that long only about 4 years. You are wrong. You just don't want the thought of the only so called "greatest" game that an-other country can make, has something inspired by American work "Zerg."
@logan500 "The first recognizable incarnation of Tyranid warriors appeared in Advanced Space Crusade in 1990, featuring biological weaponry such as boneswords and deathspitters." Fresh from Wikipedia.
They've gone through several revisions since then though, but their concept of a swarming race was from before Starcraft.
@DoctorMelon Was from Starcraft you mean. Other then that Dawn of War used those Tyranids (version of aliens) based off of what U.S. has already created. So really the makers of Starcraft already had in mind of that alien race or similar because Americans have invent that alien species way before blizzard was created. That species was created in movies and video games. So really blizzard is copying their own fellow Americans and Games Workshop is copying Americans!Plus Dawn of War isnt that good
I'm not lying. Blizzard acknowledged that the Zergs were inspired by Tyranids. You don't have to take my word for it, but Tyranids were first mentioned in Rogue Trader, the 1st edition source book for WH40K that was published in 1987 and Space Hulk in '89, 10 years before Starcraft. 2nd ed. also mentioned them, as well as 3rd ed in '98, the same year Starcraft came out. So forgive me if I laugh at your "Zerg before Tyranids" claim.
I'm just going to end off with the last two points:
1. The swarm concept was introduced with the Tyranids before SC. One can argue that the Xenomorph were the first to have that concept, but that's not the point since initially I was replying to someone saying that DoW is a rip-off of SC.
2. The concept of an alien race assimilating genetic properties of biological beings that they consume also was introduced with the Tyranids in Space Hulk, namely the Genestealers before SC in 89.
@highndry18 The new look of tyranids (how they look now) were never around since the Zerg, they were only called Tyranids. For the love of god they were centaurs. You ever hear of the Tyranids Zoats!!!
@Fr3k3 Yeah but the alien species they have now were never aliens at the time and never had the idea until Dawn of War 2 came out. They were all Zoat centaurs before DoW2. The Tyranid (aliens) were never in the board game and the video games, before Dawn of War 2. "Only the Zoats were playable"

The "zoats" were centaurs in fantasy, and in 40k they were an alien slave race.

That species was created in movies and video games. So really blizzard is copying their own fellow Americans and Games Workshop is copying Americans! Plus Dawn of War isn't that good!!
unholygregor u are wrong in many aspects there are a bunch of ppl that play reg starcraft which will play sc 2 the wow players might give sc2 a try but they are not the true fanbase.
Well iff u wana know more about DoW2 ther is no more constructing in it only for turrets ther is some old units since its a sequel to DoW 1 ther is also the new but old faction Tyranids game includes SpaceMarines,Orks,Eldar,Tyranids relic till release all other FACTIONS or Races in DoW Darkcrusade uhhh the game is fully RTS iff u have played COH (company of heros) u will have a better understanding of the game iff ur looking for a RTS game this is ur game "for the year"
in the end its all same old shite - Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War -Dawn of War: Winter Assault - etc played them got bored - dawn of war 2 -- forget it .. same old stuff
i would rather 50 nissan micras, so i could start a taxi buisness and in several years easily have enough to buy several ferraris OR sell then for what like 10K each and buy more than 3 ferraris.
Exactly Dawn of war started with almost the exact same races as Dawn of war 2. The only difference is that they replaced Chaos with Tyranids which i thinks a good thing (I've been waiting for a while for Tyranids to make their debue
I think that they wanted to attract more casual players by not confusing them with "bizarro" space marines. Wait until the sequel to be like "Hey, you know those badassed zealous space marines , well here is something like them but very evil. And when I say evil, I mean 'sacrifice the living to the blood god' kind of evil."
dude have you ever played, Company of Heroes is one of the best RTS's of all time and it only has 4 factions, and any way the less there is the more balanced they are, unless you want 18 factions that are identical except with different costumes
fucking hell! i just read that theres only gonna be space marines, ork, tyranid and eldar in this and no other races! that bloody sucks now i aint buyin this
this looks to have better graphics than starcraft2 and i've always loved the DoW games.. Shame they probably will be giving the other races in expansions tho, just hope they wont take too long time and that they wont release like 1 or 2 races in each expansion.. but the game looks awesome so far and im gonna get it
I have played DoW since it's beginning. I have bought all the exp. packs. But I have to say something about RTS's now in days. They all advertise amazing new graphics! Check out the graphics man! Wow! But in reality unless you are into saving replays you will never be able to appreciate the graphics during game play. Anyone who knows RTS's knows once you zoom in from "god view" if you stay there too long you will get owned. Wish there was a way to enjoy graphics closer without always losing.

unholygregor u are wrong in many aspects there are a bunch of ppl that play reg starcraft which will play sc 2 the wow players might give sc2 a try but they are not the true fanbase.
Jeremy2294 2 years ago
dow II is way better than sc2, blizzard just has a huge fanbase from all the wow freaks
unholygregor 2 years ago
Yea you're right. Because World of Warcraft was released BEFORE Starcraft, riiiiiiiiiiiiitteee...
AnitaCio 2 years ago
thats not what im saying, im just stating that sc2 will have a bigger fanbase from wow fans, that has nothing to do with what came first
unholygregor 2 years ago
HOLY SHEEET

kombatzero 3 years ago
Ahhh so annoying...even though my comps specs surpass the ones required to play the game, it lags like shit.
TheCushion 3 years ago
How it plays and the quailty of it is more important than quantity, would you want 50 nissan micras or 3 ferrari FXX ????
NielsShoe 3 years ago
i would rather 50 nissan micras, so i could start a taxi buisness and in several years easily have enough to buy several ferraris OR sell then for what like 10K each and buy more than 3 ferraris.
sixtyninerbros 3 years ago
Exactly Dawn of war started with almost the exact same races as Dawn of war 2. The only difference is that they replaced Chaos with Tyranids which i thinks a good thing (I've been waiting for a while for Tyranids to make their debue
cosplayproduction 3 years ago
Agreed about time they included the nids' especially since they were the starting race when they created wh40k (along with sm ) =D
Fanaticjames 3 years ago
I think that they wanted to attract more casual players by not confusing them with "bizarro" space marines. Wait until the sequel to be like "Hey, you know those badassed zealous space marines , well here is something like them but very evil. And when I say evil, I mean 'sacrifice the living to the blood god' kind of evil."
ZhangHe2369 3 years ago
As soon as this game comes out, I am instantly getting it!!
crysiseternity 3 years ago
dude have you ever played, Company of Heroes is one of the best RTS's of all time and it only has 4 factions, and any way the less there is the more balanced they are, unless you want 18 factions that are identical except with different costumes

Froastwolf 3 years ago
infact, no expansion packs, apparently its free DLC, its meant to be their scheme to stop pirecy, like.. buy the game, we give you free stuff.
SuperJohnsmith 3 years ago
if they patch the game with new races that would be nice of them,
anyway who buys a pirated RTS?
RTS is so boring without MULTIPLAYER

this looks to have better graphics than starcraft2 and i've always loved the DoW games..
