this is my favorite performance of this song. it's the sweet beginning of his career, before he sang it a thousand times. i am an older listener so, as much as i like these types of songs, i'm looking forward to what he'll bring to the table when he's about 40 or so. he's very talented, and boy can he cover just about anything!! it was my hope to hear what a wonderful world at his show in new orleans, but it didn't happen. maybe next time around!!
Of course I don't know about the origins of music any more than I know the origins of man. It does seem reasonable to consider, howerver, that the African slaves were influenced as much by the music of the white people around them as vice versa. After all, it would have been the whites who could afford the cost of musical instruments and had the ease during which to play it long before those luxuries were afforded the slaves newly imported from Africa. Logic dicates as much.
naww man listen to Runrig or John myartin they have the scottish accent thing in their songs... Scottish is Cool... Europe is cool anything american is now just so yesterday and very uncool!!
Europe is cool, for sure. Try living without American music for awhile and get back to me.... American music is the best, Rock and Roll, Blues/ R+B, Gospel, JAZZ.......... country music.......... the world soundtrack is mostly American music
American music does not really exist outside native american sounds as music was alive and well before the first brit settled there then itailian mexican french german etc... all taking their sounds into the mixing pot.... what you call 'american' is only 300 years old and from all over mainly european, celtic, gospel etc and latin american stuff all combined!
I didn't say Americans invented music. In fact, most of the music unique to America was invented by blacks....... only so many notes on the scale, they've all been played, it's what one does with them. To say American music does not exist is a stretch. It's our greatest contribution to world culture. CHEERS
the more you say the more it becomes obvious you dont have any idea what's going on in the world, and surely you have no idea about music and music theory.
Europe has one contribution to the world that has yet to be established in the US:
I'm reminded of a comment I read, that winning an online argument is like winning the special olympics, you're still retarded..... Blues was created by American blacks........ go to wikipedia. Do the same with Jazz.... It's not an opinion, it's a historical fact. Listen to polka and tuba music if you hate American music so much....
So that's why you are trying so hard to win this argument.
Dont worry, you can be wrong it still you will be a retard.
Man, you got some serious issues, cancer man.
you gotta do sth bout your inferiority complex.
And yes, I will listen to some Polka now, and you can listen to Britney Spears, Puff Daddy, Lil Wayne....
And besides Jonny is absolutely right, there are almost 7 billion people in the world and most of them actually dont listen to what you call american music.
You really mean the occident soundtrack. There are about 6 billion people living outside USA and Europe, you gotta do a reality check that's 4 sure. In the occident however about everything except classical music is based on blues (pentatonics,12bar...),blues itself is based on european harmonics and african call- response pattern >american? nope.
And today blues and rock is rly based on british blues bands from the 60s/70s.
Sure!, and Shake Rattle And Roll was by Bill Haley. Outside of Peter Green's contributions, how can you say today's blues is based upon cover tunes by brits? American Music, is played in Asia alot, btw. Blues (race) records were made in the 1920's At that time, Brits and white Americans were singing mostly lame tunes, and you know it. I admire your audacity, if not your logic. As our species originated in Africa, does that mean there is only African music? CHEERS< once again
I am not talking about where the homospasiens originated i am talking about the roots of today music that can clearly be backtracked.
You are making a fool of yourself if you state music is america's contribution to the world, That's just ridiculous on so many levels, and i showed that, you dont wanna recognize, fine.
For british blues and its decendants: Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, The animals, Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck... tbh i dont admire anything about you.
you dont wanna call other people retarded when you are as fugly as you :).
Besides if you ever want someone to take you seriously, at least pretend you understand the lines someone else is wrting instead of just twisting other peoples words so they fit in your absurd theories.
You twisted what I said into a claim that "music is america's contribution to the world" I said American Music. It is a sad joke, akin to holocaust denial, to deny that American Blacks invented blues and Jazz. Every blues musician you named (Black Sabbath?) would either laugh or curse you out of his presence by denying that obvious truth. later~~~
There is some, I say some, good music from the states but it has been heavily influenced by external cultures from Europe & Africa, etc. The rest of the world can survive quite nicely and easily without "American" music as you call it. True American music rarely extends beyond the US states and even Counties in some instances visa vie Bluegrass. The American mainstream culture is reluctant to acknowledge and embrace European works without claiming as there own
Nonsense. Jazz is a sole American invention -- note that Paolo sings a Louis Armstrong song. Odd that you post this here. So many of the present adult alternative Euro/Aussie artists attribute influence from Dylan, Neil Young, Elvis, Jeff Buckley. Dylan discovered Glen Hansard in a recording studio. If the world can survive without American music, how is it that so many of those European/Aussie artists claimed to have listened to us? You need to learn who they credit as their influences.
I agree with that. The artists always acknowledge their influences. Now we Americans are in a musical slump -- I won't name names. The more innovative music is coming out of Europe. But that's not to deny the American influence. It does my heart good to see a Paolo Nutini singing "What a Wonderful World -- a song that goes back to 1939. And, as I said Dylan discovered Glen Hansard and Glen Hansard discovered Josh Ritter. Mic Christopher acknowledged Elvis as his influence.
The US was once the dominant force behind jazz and I am no detractor of its achievement in this field. But it's risky crediting a single place or people with the 'invention' of a musical genre. Jazz mixes so many musical and social factors; the syncopation and unreliance on rigid time structures is down to the African beats of the slaves (the earliest jazz, ragtime, is slave-derived). Jazz is also the culmination of music's centuries-long shift to secularism, away from church or state control.
And I take nothing away from the wealth of European and Australian talent -- most of my playlists are NOT American. However, the point being, Kuatchi, is that it goes both ways. So look at Trace Bundy -- all American -- and he was influenced by Cat Stevens. Trace's pretty amazing as an instrumental acoustic guitarist and classified as legato/fingertapping. I don't really care that he was influenced by Cat Stevens because I like Cat Stevens too who is a Greek/Brit. "And so it is .. "
I'll end that my part of this discussion wasn't just addressing the last few years, but, rather, the cross-over influence that America has had with European (British Isles if you'd rather) MUSIC over many, many decades. You are talking about today. I'm thinking in decades. And Australians do put out some music too.
I think he is absolutely brilliant as a song writer and in his delivery - he ranks up there with Ray LaMontage in my book. (I put my video response here.)
For me, the most exciting and interesting singer/songwriter to appear in the last 10 years. The quality and individuality of his voice at 19 years old is amazing. The quality of his songs is great too.

there's very little of him in australia at the moment but i hope his management pull there finger out and change that cos he's such a talent, and beautiful to look at too. love him, sooo soulful.
Paolo Giovanni Nutini was born 9 January 1987 in Paisley, Scotland. His dad's roots are in Barga, Tuscany, Italy; his mother is Scottish. He was supposed to be on tour now, with Amy Winehouse in the US, but most of the dates and venues had to be changed and some - like Seattle ;-( - are still up in the air. YUM is right! Love his song Jenny Don't Be Hasty!!
i think the mark of a true musician is his/ her ability to perform live.. and paolo does it so well i prefer to listen to his music live so many "artists" these days only sound decent on a cd but paolo's raw talent doesnt need to be modified edited and manipulated and not to mention hes extremely gorgeous in an unassuming way aww what more can a girl want :]
Hey. I'm a member of a newly formed band, and we're looking for feedback on a few of our early songs. If you have some spare time please search "404 new song" (or click on my channel) and let us know if we're doing alright, skating by, or just sound like crap. Thanks.
this was 3 days before my daughter was born i remember. he lives in my town and ive eaten fish and chips in his mam and dads chippie loads of timesss!!! go me!!!! wooooo he sounds so scottish when he sings lovely!

I used to go to school with Paolo. It cool he's doing so well. Lol you actually made it Paolo! After all those talent shows....who would have thought?!
Whatever yourself! You can believe what you want to believe, I don't see why I would lie. I'm certianly not going to give out any personal info on him just to prove I'm right.
I mean, not that I care if you're lying but why would you right? Palo's just another guy in the world so.. why would it be so weird if you went to school with this guy.. -.-
Have just been sent this from the dearest of old pals and have found myself totally struck by this awesome awesome awesome video! He is certainly one to watch xxx
Saw him live at Montreux in a concert homage to Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun. He was standing next to Robert Plant - talk about a meeting between past and future
I love his voice - it's so pure. This acoustic set on Jools Holland was so amazing. I love that he keeps his Scottish accent. It means so much to keep your identity.

i think the mark of a true musician is his/ her ability to perform live.. and paolo does it so well i prefer to listen to his music live so many "artists" these days only sound decent on a cd but paolo's raw talent doesnt need to be modified edited and manipulated and not to mention hes extremely gorgeous in an unassuming way aww what more can a girl want :]

Hey. I'm a member of a newly formed band, and we're looking for feedback on a few of our early songs. If you have some spare time please search "404 new song" (or click on my channel) and let us know if we're doing alright, skating by, or just sound like crap. Thanks.

Whatever yourself! You can believe what you want to believe, I don't see why I would lie. I'm certianly not going to give out any personal info on him just to prove I'm right.

I can actually believe you.
I mean, not that I care if you're lying but why would you right? Palo's just another guy in the world so.. why would it be so weird if you went to school with this guy.. -.-

I love his voice - it's so pure. This acoustic set on Jools Holland was so amazing. I love that he keeps his Scottish accent. It means so much to keep your identity.
