hi everyone! yeah i know...not this again. but please hear me out, because i thought i might just give this a shot...tehe. i know i don't stand a chance to regina, but i'm 14 years old and i love to sing. i make covers and i decided to do a cover of this song, so if you could check it out, it would mean the world to me! my dream is to get on the voice tv show. silly but i ought to try. so please help by looking at my cover and thumbs-ing (is that a word?) up. thanks tons!
Her voice hums with power. You can definitely hear it, and almost feel it. The only other song I've ever heard that sounds like that is oddly enough American Woman by The Guess Who. Completely unrelated to this song, but that's what I noticed, as far as the voice having power in it.
Her voice is flawless live. It's so refreshing. I hate when I love a musician and go see them live and they suck. I feel lied to. But Regina's voice don't lie!
i love this i love this i love this....especially the bit when she stops singing and just goes dum, dum, dum on the piano, slow and steady, head cocked, looking completely absorbed. that moment is brilliant.
She is really a wonderful singer. This song is soo difficult to sing. And she sounds sooo good live even while playing the piano ... which can be a distraction for a singer. What a talent !
What I most love about Regina is that she is not affraid in any way to show emotion in her song writing. So many pop stars only what to just scratch the surface and not delve deep into the heart and sould of the music. Not Regina. It may make you sad, or think, but she is brave enough to say it. Thank you for being so honest.
i want to thank you for existing and i want to thank you for being an amazingg, beautiful, creative, unique, young woman. I think I wanna b a man in my next life, that way i can marry you<3
You go through life happily thinking you know what you like and don't like... then you find Regina Spektor and she shows you something that you never knew could exist. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Her artistry, her tone, her lyrics... Her music attaches you so close to her... you feel like she is your personal friend. I count myself lucky to be living in a time when I can witness her genius.
Blue, the sky, the oceans, the earth. The song is about humanity becoming disconnected from their origins of the earth. Whether the man is homeless matters not. What matters, is that on his journey through life he sees the pattern of behavior in humans & it makes him question life, faith, humans & it makes him feel sad- Blue.
@JonasGreywolf I think it's more than that--I think it's humanity becoming disconnected from humanity. This is why she stresses "the most human colour" and why she includes the verse on a child stopping to rest and waking up to find he is no longer a child but instead an adult, passed by. I agree that the homeless bit might be a stretch but there certainly is something there about the fact that the main character is neglected.
The color blue, based on this song, represents the universality of humanity. Throughout our lives, we are surrounded and filled with the color blue: blue veins, blue lips (representing death, as your lips, if you're more fair-skinned, turn blue when they lack oxygen), blue oceans, etc. So, it's "the most human color."
@PatrickWhite85 If I could venture a guess, I think that this person whom everyone passes by is a homeless man with a fascination for spirituality. "The most human colour" could then refer to the fact that he is, after all, merely mortal and possibly freezing to death. But Two2birds had a good explanation, too.
@discopeppers344 saw her in new york before a concert when i was going to the bathroom she was going on stage she's like 4'10. I was like Hey regina! she turned around stunned. Then i said Hey and she was like hey.
i am so excited! i was there but way in the back and i used the telefoto lens as best i could but of course some big headed man kept standing in my way. i got great closeups of his ugly bald head...but i digress, THIS PERFORMANCE WAS INCREDIBLE...TRULY AMAZING....only now did i find that this recording was made. thank you. i was there but this is such a great view i wasn't afforded in real life so thanks for showing her amazing face and mannerisms. great performance! thanks for posting!
I really liked this interview lady. Kinda different. Really focused on Regina. She's either a really big fan already or really studied up on her. Whatever it was, I liked it.
I think I can go as far as to say I MUCH rather her live performances than her produced studio versions. I could see why she doesn't like the release some of them or take some of them to the studio. She's a realist, a performer, she loves to travel and spread something. I think that her CDs came after her live performances.
Dude, my friends and i go to barnes and noble every wednsday after school. why doesn't she ever play at our barnes and noble, she's so much better than coffe and magazines!
@3redsilva The reason she sounds so great live is because people always compare singers based on live performances and their voice on recording. Well, her producers don't need to do anything to her voice for her CD's, because her voice is flawless. Her vocal range is godly, and people love her.
Thanks for uploading this video of an excellent performance. I only saw Regina live once, on the hottest evening of the year in Brighton, a couple of years ago, but she puts so much into a live performance that you just have to love her to bits.

I'm a singer and my only goal in my entire career is to have a fraction of her talent, If I got that, I'd be done.
She is completely spektacular.

One of the single most compelling performances I have ever seen. Pure talent, and she doesn't need any gimmicks to make people aware of that.
May there always be an encore, or at least a replay button, Regina! :)
