wow, check out that old school magic carpet...so slow, small with no amenities, and you didn't need a special permit to fly it back then, i had a friend Aubdul who flew around the neighborhood, he was only 12 years old!
Haha loving the magic carpet sfx... I remember watching this after school in 84.. I wouldn't miss Razzamatazz for love or money, not that I was offered any! Wicked footage, your TT stuff is truly epic binker1
Isn't it odd that they were so criticised by English critics, and later American ones, but this video, miming or not, they still had stage presence and great synth tracks. Oh well, time always changes views.
Perfect example of what they lost in their later work. So exotic was their sound as that of an introduction of a world culture sounds. Although, several songs use, not authentic "motifs", from those cultures but instead western musical "notions" of that culture, as a basis for these songs. It worked well and came off as very exotic. But does the "East" actually have a song with that "Eastern" hook that they use in this song? It conveys to us Westerners that it is the "East", but is it really?
thank the lord for spotify...just listened to judy do, which i only have on vinyl (signed of course!)...what a great track from a great album...i still loved when this came out, but they were already slipping in my humble opinion...
@binker1 great track best track on the gap. i agree, quick step was wonderful, but the follow up album not so good, too mellow in places but still had some good songs. unfortunately fo me it was seriously downhill after this.
@splowery So first question regarding the top, Y? lol second question did u actually come to see The Thompson Twins or some other band and thirdly did they force kids in those shows to clap along to songs they hated?
@bluejeckett Y indeed!!..... It was a T V show called Razzamatazz that was shot at the Tyne Tees Television studio's. in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. They used to get the kids from schools around the North of England to use as the audience. As for the clapping, I remember there were that many takes my arms ached..

Betcha didn't know people could fly in the 80s! Flying carpets were outlawed in 1990.

And we all know that this "hideous, over 'yooful' bearded chap", is Alistair Pirrie, who co-presented this programme with Lisa Stansfield.

The Thompson Twins performed "The Gap" live on a late night American TV show called "SNL". I still remember seeing it.

I like that the woman is doing the most moving of all 3 of them but contributing next to nothing in terms of sound!

Thanks for posting this...I'm in the audience on the stage. I'm the dodgy looking kid who's out of time and wearing a grey cardy with a Y on it.
