i was watching this last night. on laserdisc. yes, really. laserdisc! remember those?
concert videos are the only reason i still use my player. i know this is out on DVD too, but there are a LOT of rare videos released by genesis and other bands that aren't available in any other format.
you can find good players for under $20 on ebay, and you can find LDs from any band you can imagine there too. go search. it's fun to see what you can find. :)
the song is magic! 19 years since he came to me when I need strength and Help! this morning I suddenly had the CD in hand and must listen to him immediately. accident or design?
The Way We Walk was and still is by all account a MONSTER CD. I tend to get really pissed when the puritans chastize me about liking the line up post Hacket and Gabriel. The fact remains that pop sold out or not GENESIS is a group of incredibly talented musicians and probably the only Rock band that can pull a set, rehearse it and be ready for a live performance in a matter of 5 hours. Now tell me, who the fuck does that!!!
@dualpoletech couldn't put it better myself. i love the stuff with gabriel, more of my favorite tracks come from back then but there is no denying there was great music on EVERY album they ever released. well, let's get forget about calling all stations. other than that.... :)
i get a headache whenever i start reading comments about how phil "destroyed genesis" -- without their later more accessible stuff, they would have about 0.1% of fans they have now. they weren't well known before.
@kingcrimson234 A lot of people seem to forget that bands have contracts to fulfill with major record lables and in the music business, it is all about sustained longevity. That sustainability is impossible to achieve without making certain creative adjustments. Nevertheless, all of Genesis musicians are extremely talented on their own rights. I mean look at Lynyrd Skynard now. WTF are they doing? Swap shope gigs, BBQ competitions. Musical growth must come in order to survive.
@mroblongo By comparizon they were making good pop music at least. Among the crap of the 80's.
I hated 80's music but it didn't matter, musically I was a decade behind. In Cuba it was extremely difficult to obtain foreign music. So, I spent the 80's discovering all the good music from the 70's, among other things from that era LOL. Basically I came to it in the 90's when better music was being made.
@gunky47 Don't worry, when one has that much to give in terms of talent and creativity, the only way to completely retire is to die. Phil is a drummer/pianist/singer/composer and one hell of a collaborater, example: "Easy Lover" with Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire), as well as being drummer and singer for Brand X. Once one has achieved his level, he'll always show up here and there and that's when it really gets creative because there's no longer anything to prove - its for the passion
very very special memories of my grandparents this song.my grandad helped to build the railway tracks which eventually brought him to Barrow in Furness where he married my grandma...and the rest is history.love and miss you both so much.xx
Epic masterpiece.

When the song breaks into the second half and picks up,
has to be the GREATEST DRIVING guitar riff ever-
Blasting, and cutting through Gods country like a knife.....

Having listened to the studio version, I didn't see how the song could be improved..until I checked out this live performance.

I know its an illusion because of the lighting but doesn't look like Chester flips the drumstick in his right hand at 5:53? If he did, unreal.

My favorite genesis song. I listened to this when I was a teen so many times on my walkman at night. During the day I listened to nirvana lol.

And they then to forget that Peter Gabriel also "sold out" with pop music...Steam, Sledgehammer, etc..etc. I like both, Genesis and Peter gabriel :D
