The thing about post classical music is simply this, can it be reproduced? If so, then why cant it be music. As for those who say "this is not music" then stick with your 16th 17th 18th and 19th century stuff, your "safe" classical music.
@englishdave250 some of the medieval and baroque stuff is just as 'unsafe' as this. It's all a matter of how deep one has their head up their own ass. ;)
Oh course this is music, and very powerful and well thought out. I don't understand how you could think otherwise. Gubaidulina is my favorite composer working today. I'd love to here her recent concerto for accordion and orchestra.
Pretentious crap! Anyone can beat the shit out of a musical instrument to get a variety of noises from it - but is it music?? I pity the poor students in music colleges today who are required to perform such bilge. Or, just as bad, have to sit through someone else's performance of it and pretend to like it. Is taxpayers' money being wasted on this? Ye Gods! Whatever happened to good old Melody, Harmony and Rhythm?
Pardon, but it's not a stupid and chaotic sequence of the rythm, or etc. This is avant-garde in the music and especially this direction in the art of composers like Gubajdulina, Schnittke, Denisov, etc all these modes are full of religious symbols. So, first one should be know better the world, life, thoughts and works of them, than try to speak and fix his position and ideas
I can only say it once again, people who judge the music of Sofia Gubaidulina have no idea about music at all! Her music is PERFECT and it is being performed here very well! Bravo!!
Wow! this is so inspiring! Dou you have a video playing Gubaidulina's In Croce, De Profundis or Silenzio? You really communicate the compeser´s feelings. Congratulations
poderoso!
