  • LOL i'd actually go to a movie theatre if they played this there.

  • steve mcqueen wanks off and you watch

  • 5:28 great

  • @Brenza why would you want a remake, the original is the shit

  • 5:04,I love those 24 cylinders at full throttle

  • i love that engine sound ! :D

  • I would imagine for that 24 hr, period, you don't really sleep.Even when not actually driving, you can't really rest.

  • Please can someone help me, I am looking for a remake of the film 24 le mans, if you have a link feel free to put, thank you

  • They blow by that Corvette Stingray like it is standing still.

  • Only the Lola aston martin (yes in Gulf colours) have engines I like to hear in the prototype class these days.

  • This movie's the definition of disliking the opposition, while still respecting them..

  • Gulf Porsche 917

  • Can't wait till this movie comes out on blu-ray.

  • @greenbastard619 its already on blu ray

  • 4:56 look at dem slow american shitbox being doubleovertaken :D

  • @LukeLamping Like Corvette hasn't dominated LeMans over the past few years or anything. No, I guess that never happened....

  • @slot962 ...guess it didnt

  • 2000 Audi R8 2001 Audi R8 2002 Audi R8 2003 Bentley EXP Speed 8GT 2004 Audi R8 2005 Audi R8 2006 Audi R10 TDI 2007 Audi R10 TDI 2008 Audi R10 TDI 2009 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP 2010 Audi R15 TDI Plus
  • @LukeLamping They have dominated the GT class. You know they don't run a Prototype. GT cars aren't as quick as Prototypes you ignorant fool.

  • @slot962 flaming wont work...well u made it sound like they were overall winners

  • @LukeLamping Im not flaming. You sound like an ignorant Britt that hates Americans. I don't hate England.....

  • @slot962 im not a britt and i dont hate america...i really aprecciate what the corvettes won

  • 3:35 - 4:00: absolutely bloody brilliant camerawork! SO much better than the over-the-top bumping/crashing/flipping CGI nonsense that would no doubt make up any updated attempt.

The excitement and DANGER of REAL racing--especially in that era--simply can't be impressed upon most of today's open mouth breathing, video game weaned simpletons who just want to see stuff get blowed up, duh-huh.

  • Too bad about Abradi-- two miles and he's home.Felt bad for the team mgr. as well.

  • Steve McQueen must have had a warp drive stuffed in the back of his 917 on Mulsanne.

Lovely cars, but No. 20 had the better paint job, shame he trashed it.

  • @650kntflyby But the races of 2010 and 2008 were better then 1970 and 71 when the 917k dominated, though nothing could touch the 1969 race.

Relevant progress and good races mean more to me then the thrill though I do understand it.

  • @650kntflyby What's wrong with technological progress ?!

With this mentality you'd wonder why don't they run the 1923 cars that had no wings or safety belts and had skinny bicycle tires.

  • I like the way they do a seperate shot/sound of the Ferrari and the Porsche. Compare how the Porsche sounds like Goliath with its air cooled engine.

  • I remember seeing this at the show with my dad when it came out and 40 years later it's still good!

  • @spdskte I netflix this every year just before the Le Mans race... been doing that for the past 6 years.... Turn it reallly loud.... and just listen to those engines roar. Today its sometimes hard to get that engine feeling as their sometimes is more comentary... then actual onboard shots. I must say hearing the Lamborghini, Aston Martin's, and the roar of the V8's. I think the Lola chasis Aston Martin has one of the sweetest sounds of today.

  • Awesome, thanks for uploading.

  • Awesome film perhaps the best racing movie ever made and as real as you can get. The fact that Steve Mcqueen did most of his own driving in this film speaks for it self what actor present day would have the guts to run flat out at speeds over 200mph just for a film like this beatiful job nothing today comes close to the movie Le Mans...

  • The porsche 917 is one of the best racing cars ever built and the best at the time.

  • Greek subtitles or not.....the sound of a Ferrari V12 transverses all language barriers.

  • just the sounds alone make this Vid/ movie up there!

  • This is one of the most boring films ever made, although some of the scenes are exciting.Watch Grand Prix which is far superior to this.

  • @daterwat666 Grand Prix is a good film but not as good as this......although I DVR'd the Saturday Night Drive-In version of this on Speed channel and they talk about how they convinced Ferrari to let them use their marquee in the film.

  • I have this on DVD and it's just awesome. I remember watching it at the walk-in in 1971 when I was just 15. Fell in love with the Gulf Porsche 917 and the track. This was filmed during the actual race.

  • Felt sorry for Luca., the Ferrari team manager- all that work shot on a flat tire.

  • @cosmicdingo phuck yea, on the lasy damn lap.

  • Those cars sound superb and I always love the villainous squinty eyes of Herr Stahler at 6:08!

Larry Wilson must have been driving most of that final lap in second gear. :D

  • Too bad in reality, it didn't take Ferrari getting a flat tire for the 917 to win. The 917 dominated those few years.

  • I remember when this was new....omg it still gives me goosebumps ! Steve McQueen was da bomb !

  • In most contemporary movies, computer generated sequences, impaled with garish, mind numbing special effects would replace a wonderful scene like this. Here, the racing stands on it's own, with no augmentation or trickery...and it's fantastic!!

  • Amen! This film was ahead of it's time!! Boring to the populace, but it was an unpretentious film about racing. And McQueen went through hell making the film. Cost him his marriage, his friends and his production company. One of the most under appreciated films of all time.

  • Well said.

Hollywood did a film about motor racing a few years ago and it was full of the most over the top, fake looking CGi possible. It's almost as if health and safety laws now make it impossible for stunt men and women to do the job they trained to do.

Le Mans was proper old school film making at its best.

  • @TK42138 They do the CGI stuff because it's easier and people will still buy it. Until people stop falling for CGI movies they will still make them.

  • @howitzer24

I think the trend is slowly heading back towards practical effects because CG is too easy to spot. I believe the new 'The Thing' prequel has gone back to practical FX but with a small amount of CG to get rid of rods, wires etc.

  • @spokes64 you're dead on! no special effects, no stupid sound tracks, no t and a, just straight up no BS driving!

  • one of the all time great racing movies. they dont make 'em like this anymore

  • great video!! thanks!!!!
