Sounds like the mixture is way off. From the sound, as good as one can hear from a video, I'd guess that its too lean. However, your title sez "forest uphill". We're you riding at high altitude?

On my 950 S.E., with the titanium Akro exhaust cans, I increased the main jets two sizes, lifted the needles one step. Its perfect at 50F, 1000 feet. Too rich at 90F, 1000 feet. For 90F operation only need to increase main jet one size.
