This has to be circa 1997 ... that's when I first saw her ... at Jazzfest ... her lifelong battle with her weight was evident ... but still her voice and personality were bigger than her size. It changed me forever. Read her biography "Rage to Survive" ... it's the most amazing page-turner you'll read ... she's had such an intense, crazy life ... and it's better than any story a writer could make up ... God Bless her. She was amazing, a FORCE ... beautiful soul ...

Thank you for posting this. It's probably my favorite blues lyric ever.

I think it's from the Pointe-à-Pitre Jazz Festival in Guadeloupe, French West Indies. She and Nina were both on the bill, the stage looks right (if the camera had zoomed out a little it would be confirmed by the festival logo on the side of the stage), and there's a palm tree stage right! She was amazing that night, as always. RIP Etta.
